Dear Friends and Fellow Filmmakers, Hello and welcome to the 2021 Tryon International Film Festival (TRIFF). The last seven years, we have thrown everything we have at the film festival. Certainly, our target has always been the three-day event that occurs in early October, when our festival comes alive in person, virtually or as a mixture of both. From the moment the prior festival wraps up, our work begins in earnest for the next festival. We work on TRIFF in some form or fashion every day of the year. But through all the exhaustive efforts required, we do it with a huge degree of excitement and passion. Through thick and thin, we manage to push harder each year, even though family tragedy, health challenges and worldwide pandemic. Often, we ask ourselves what motivates us so much to do this and always the answer comes quickly. We do it because we love it. Our entire staff and year-round volunteers smile while we work because of the pride we have in this unique event. We smile because we know how TRIFF impacts our community, the film industry, filmmakers, actors, producers, and spectators around the world. Every year brings us something bold, beautiful, fresh, and new in the form of stunning stories, impactful documentaries, and gorgeous visual arts. But TRIFF is even bigger than that. TRIFF brings you here, so that we can take you there. We produce TRIFF because of the smiles it puts on everyone’s faces who ultimately become part of our annual celebration. We do this also because of our love for people. Smiles bring more smiles, which then increases the amount of positive energy in our ever-challenging world. So welcome to the 2021 Tryon International Film Festival and share a smile with us. Sincerely, Kirk Gollwitzer and Beau Menetre Polk County Film Initiative 501(c)(3) Non-profit status

WORKING HARDER to Keep You Healthier

I tore my Achilles tendon in an accident at work. The pain told me that my injury was bad, so I went to an emergi-care for treatment. And at the urging of my wife, I made a follow-up appointment with Dr. Rosenberg. He was able to see me quickly and ordered an MRI, which was done two hours later the same day. The MRI revealed that I had torn my Achilles and that corrective surgery was required. Again, scheduled quickly, Dr. Rosenberg performed his surgery to perfection, and my recovery and rehabilitation went very well. Dr. Rosenberg, his staff, and St. Luke’s pre op and physical therapy staff far exceeded my expectations. I’ve lived in Columbus for a long time and have heard the negative reputation of the hospital. But my experience was exceptional from beginning to end.

I’m a “walking” example of St. Luke’s excellence!

8:00pm - Cowboys (01:20:00) USA - Best Full Length Documentary Film Logline: In an age of breathtaking change, rapid urbanization, and a daily news cycle, it’s hard to imagine an existence almost entirely divorced from that reality. Yet, COWBOYS: A Documentary Portrait reveals a fascinating way of life tied uniquely to the natural environment and capricious thousand-pound animals. Filmed on location in the most remote parts of the American West, COWBOYS paints an intimate portrait of a surprisingly diverse and eloquent group of men and women committed to a harsh reality while feeding a population they’re likely never to encounter. COWBOYS grants audiences rare access to a world so compelling and unique that viewers can’t help but look at their own lives anew and marvel at how America’s most distinctive and eulogized profession has survived into the 21st century.

7:30 pm • Tryon Fine Arts Center (Veh Stage) The Final Stand (02:16:00) Russia -Best Full Length Feature Film / HR&D October 1941. Fascist hordes rush to Moscow. Their task is to hold out for five days until the reserves arrive. The cadets held out for twelve… Аt a cost of their lives, they did not allow the enemy to reach Moscow, and thereby changed the course of war. The film is about heroism, about love, about true friendship. A large number of real military equipment of the 1940s was involved in the filming.

Body of Water Body of Water explores how women self-identify in a world that presents us with constantly conflicting perceptions of what it is to be female. It examines the destructive nature of eating disorders and body dysmorphia within a narrative film framework. Pearl now lives with Stephanie’s mother, Susan and her fiancee Annette. Tangled 8 Tangled 8 is eight adaptations of the same script. The film explores the ways in which people of diverse social backgrounds, races and age manage grief through its different phases. Originally conceived as a single short film, director John E. Seymore reimagined the piece as an anthology feature, based partly on the musical concept of variations on a theme. The script remains largely the same, but the action, visualization, situation and sound vary greatly with each new vignette. Finally, Tangled 8 is a film about film. It pays homage to John Ford, Woody Allen, Peter Greenaway and other filmmakers who have created the visual and thematic language of modern cinema.

Botox Akram and Azar, two sisters, lie about the disappearance of their brother by telling everyone he has fled to Germany. As time goes by, however, the “lie” turns into “reality” in Akram’s mind, so that she believes her brother will come back. Rescued Tom Connelly is barely coping with the tragic loss of his family and searching for something that can ease his despair. He adopts a dog named Ruby, who is also looking for a second chance. Owning Ruby quickly leads Tom down an unexpected path that could allow him to save another family from being torn apart - forcing Tom to make a life-changing decision just as his own life has taken a turn for the better.

The Awakening of Lilith A woman finds herself in the midst of a dark mystery after the unexplained loss of a loved one. Her mind begins to unravel as her sense of reality begins to slip away.

Sabrina - Tortured for Christ, The Nazi Years Great character is sometimes forged amid great turmoil. together live musical performances from Native Son and the personal narratives of Black legacy farmers and land stewards throughout the film. The Black Farmers’ Appeal: Cancel Pigford Debt Campaign is a grassroots organizing, popular education, and legal advocacy campaign to rectify the injustices of the Pigford v. Glick class action discrimination lawsuit. Inspired by David Walker’s impassioned entreaty against the chattel enslavement of Africans in the United States, the Black Farmers’ Appeal: Cancel Pigford Debt Campaign is a polemic against yet another form of racialized capitalism–unconscionable debt. Our coalition is comprised of a multigenerational tribe of farmers, attorneys, writers, artists, and musicians using our diverse magic to bring restorative land justice to our Black legacy farmers. We use diverse strategies to preserve the Black agricultural land base, exploring innovative collaborations that deepen the linkages of music, culture, ecocultural traditions, and cooperative economy to protect Black landownership and stewardship, while raising community awareness, collectivism, and action. We also merge the aims of our campaign with our cooperative economy works with fiber artists, heritage quilters, and keepers of material culture.

Our work continues to grow with Native Son with Restoration: A Concert Film. The film explores southern Black agrarian stories of self-determination, land ownership, and folkwit; amplifies ongoing struggles for restorative land justice in this country including the Black Farmers’ Appeal: Cancel Pigford Debt Campaign; and weaves 24

The Girl Who Wore Freedom THE GIRL WHO WORE FREEDOM brings us to Normandy, France. Once an idyllic landscape, Normandy had succumbed to German invaders who overran its farms, its manors, its countryside. Here we meet Dany Patrix, Maurice Lecoueur, Henri-Jean Renaud, and others, who recount their unique relationships with the Allied forces who liberated Normandy on June 6, 1944. The journey from occupation to liberation, to acceptance and forgiveness to gratitude and pride, is explored through interviews with French survivors and American veterans in this powerful, personal film that tells stories handed down over two generations. continued...

The other side of the coin: Race, Generations & Reconciliation This film is a collection of experiences and thoughts addressing the complexities of race in America. The participants featured in the film represent a span of different generations, which presents its own unique challenges. These challenges tend to reignite historical transgressions into the fold of present-day ideologies, begging the question: How do we reconcile for the sake of future generations and humanity?

Whether Buying or Selling.. YOU are the of our show!

STAR

Buying or selling property is a major performance – one that requires the right cast of characters to make a hit. Our agents really know this area and are licensed in both NC & SC. This helps find the perfect property for our Buyers and provides major exposure to our Sellers’ properties.
