FROM THE CAPTAIN
WELCOME to the game as we return to home action in the UEFA Europa Conference League Group F against familiar opponents in Slovan Bratislava.
I thought we competed very well in the away game against them last month, as we have done in all three of our matches in the group stages so far.
We had an excellent first half but unfortunately we are playing against teams where, if you don’t take your chances, you will get punished and I believe that’s exactly what happened.
We came out for the second half but mentally we were still in the changing room and were made to pay within a minute from the restart.
That was a massive blow and we couldn’t quite reach the levels we did in the first half. Overall, though, I was proud of the team but it is clear that we are learning the hard way. The team is gaining experience with every game we play at this level and I think we have shown this in our performances.
We still have a long way to go to reach the standard of our opponents but we strive to be the best we can be at this present moment.
Having the local League start is a big positive as we get more minutes to prepare both physically and mentally but with no disrespect to the League, this is a whole different ball game.
It’s hard to prepare against teams of this calibre when you’re not facing them week in, week out.
We will do what we have done in every European match this year and that is give everything we have got. If it’s enough I don’t know, but I hope we can get a good crowd behind us which might prove to be the difference.
From experience I can tell you that there is not much difference between all of our opponents in Group F. They have all been extremely tough and all our matches have ended in defeat and by a two-goal deficit.
I do believe we are stronger at home and we will go into this fixture confident in that we can compete and who knows what we are capable of? Unpredictable results have happened here before and by players, staff and supporters working together, maybe it can happen again tonight? ROY CHIPOLINA Captain

WELCOME BACK TO VICTORIA STADIUM FOR OUR LATEST UEFA EUROPA CONFERENCE LEAGUE GROUP GAME AS WE TAKE ON SLOVAN BRATISLAVA, A STRONG TEAM WITH A FANTASTIC HEAD COACH IN VLADIMIR WEISS.
These are opponents that we faced last month, of course, going down to a 2-0 away defeat, and on that occasion we were punished for not taking our chances during the first half.
I’d say that we created three or four opportunities but failed to capitalise and they had four or five real chances and scored two. That is the difference at this level of football. We face another tough test this evening, but we’re learning and improving as a club and as a team all of the time as we go through the group matches. We’re learning that almost every mistake we make as a team gets punished and improving our ability to cope with the
pace and quality that we are facing in these group stages.
Today we will be looking to make home advantage count and get our first points on the board. Each game represents a stern examination at this stage of European competition. Slovan Bratislava are a different side to the one which came here in August in a UEFA Europa League qualifier and we are going to have to be alive to their threats. We have worked hard in preparation and are ready to go again. The start that we have made to our domestic competition has given us confidence and it is good to have regular fixtures alongside these European encounters.
Once again I would like to personally thank all of the Lincoln players and technical team for their efforts and the club volunteers for the endless hours they put in, in order for these fixtures to go ahead.
Thanks also to you, the fans, for always getting behind the team and giving us confidence against ‘superior’ opposition. Finally, may I welcome everyone associated with our opponents before wishing them a safe journey home afterwards. Thank you for your valued support. Enjoy the game… MICK

WE MAY have lost our three group games so far, but Jesus Toscano is in no doubt that being involved in this level of competition is having great benefits.
INTERVIEW
The reliable defender has started all three of our group games and is looking forward to the battle ahead this evening. “I think that generally we have put in a high level of performance,” said the 30 year-old who joined the club from rivals, Europa FC in 2019. “We have worked hard as a defensive unit but we have come to realise that you cannot switch off for even one second against opposition of this standard as they will punish you.
JESUS TOSCANO
LEARNING PROCESS
“We have learned a lot from our mistakes; we have improved on the intensity and effort that these types of matches require and that has benefitted us greatly. “Now the team is stronger and I think we deserve to get some reward in terms of points on the board from the games that remain.
. . . We have learned a lot from our mistakes; we have improved on the intensity and effort that these types of matches require and that has benefitted us greatly… “The start of our domestic League has helped us get back into the rhythm of competition. Some team-mates will accumulate minutes and that will help us when it comes to our European games. “We have competed well in each of our games so far. We have worked on the areas that need attention and hopefully we can use home advantage to help us get a result today. “I am looking forward to the challenge ahead. These are the games that you want to be part of and if we can keep things tight at the back and take the opportunities that come our way, who knows? “Hopefully we can put on the type of performance that will excite the supporters and do ourselves proud.”

THE DYNAMIC Mustapha Yahaya believes that our first Group F points are just around the corner as our belief continues to grow.
INTERVIEW
The former FC Twente player has been an important figure in the engine room of our team.
MUSTAPHA YAHAYA
BURSTING WITH BELIEF
“We went to Bratislava for our last group game with plenty of belief amongst the squad,” he said. “The performance was there, particularly in the first half, and we had a few chances in which to change the course of the game. “Unfortunately we were unable to take them on this occasion and our hosts took their opportunities in the second half, but I think that we deserved something to show for our efforts. “That has gone now and we move on. We hope to give them another good game tonight, one where we can take the chances that come our way and keep things solid in defence, something that we have been working hard on in training.
“From top to the bottom at the club, everyone has the feeling that a win is on its way; we believe and we know it will happen but we have to go for it…”
“Facing teams like Slovan Bratislava and the others in our group has helped us grow and realise what is required to be successful at this level. It has been a real learning curve for us, one that will stand us in good stead for the future.
“I think that having the domestic League up and running will have an impact on us, both positive and negative, but that is what happens at a club that wants to remain at the top and go far. “It will help us in terms of getting into our rhythm but the demands of a busy fixture list will also tire us more. “That said, this is where we want to be and now our focus is on getting our first group points on the board. We have shown that we are able to create enough to help us achieve this and I would like to think that it won’t be long in coming. “From top to the bottom at the club, everyone has the feeling that a win is on its way; we believe and we know it will happen but we have to go for it.”

They were established shortly after World War I following the emergence of Czechoslovakia.
as they were crowned national champions in 1969/70, 1973/74 and 1974/75.
Originally formed as First Czechoslovak Sports Club Bratislava, they dominated domestically in their early years and this continued as they changed their name to SK Bratislava, proving to be easily the best team in Slovakia.
However, relegation into the secondtier came in 1984/85 as the club suffered some difficult years before rising to become Champions again in the early 1990s.
After World War II and the reestablishment of Czechoslovakia, SK Bratislava began to attack the dominance of the Czech clubs from Prague; Sparta and Slavia. Changing their name to Sokol NV Bratislava for a time, they finally became Slovan Bratislava but went 13 years without a League title, something previously unheard of for the club. A special day in the history of the club came on May 21st 1969 when they defeated FC Barcelona to lift the 1969 European Cup Winners’ Cup having beaten FK Bor, FC Porto, AC Torino and Dunfermline Athletic along the way. This stimulated more success in domestic competition in the early 1970s
16 OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME OF THE LINCOLN RED IMPS
On January 1st 1993, an independent Slovak Republic was formed and Slovan played the national Slovak League winning three national titles in a row and clearly dominated the Slovak competition in those early days. They were relegated back into the second-tier in 2004 as the club struggled financially, but through sheer hard work and determination they returned to the top-flight and then were crowned Champions in 2009. Moving to a new stadium at this time, they won a League and Cup double in 2010/11 and 2012/13 and also reached the group stages of the UEFA Europa League in 2011/12. League titles have also been secured in 2013/14, 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21
