WELCOME

WELCOME BACK TO THE VICTORIA STADIUM FOR OUR 11TH AND FINAL GAME OF THE FIRST ROUND OF FIXTURES AS WE TAKE ON MANCHESTER 62. Unfortunately, our last game against St. Joseph’s did not go as planned and we lost 2-1. Echoing Lee Casciaro’s words in last week’s Match Programme, the way the game panned out was exactly how he anticipated; a game between two strong teams aspiring to win the League and which could have gone either way. I thought we had a very good start to the game, with a lot of possession and control of the ball in the first 30 minutes. We created a few clear goalscoring opportunities but were unable to capitalise upon them. The second half saw a very wellorganised St Joseph’s, especially at the back and playing on the counter-attack. They made us very uncomfortable and did not allow us to impose our tempo on the game. All that is left for me to do is congratulate St Joseph’s for their win. I believe that all is not lost and our aspirations and expectations remain the same as at the start of the season – and that is to end up being League Champions. In other areas, our Under-23s faced Mons Calpe on Sunday and won 3 -2. It was another good performance from our young boys that saw them win their

ninth consecutive game of the season to take top spot before the Christmas break and remain as the only undefeated team in the League. I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely wish all the best to Andrew Horsey, our Club Secretary, who leaves us at the end of the month to embark in a new, non-football-related job. Andrew has been instrumental for this club and a key member of my team for the last few years. Although he will no longer be involved in the Administration and day-to-day running of the club, he will continue to work with the club in his capacity as a coach with the Under-23 team. Finally, I would like to personally take this opportunity to wish all our members, players, Technical Staff, Support Staff, their families, the local football community and Gibraltar community at large a Merry Christmas and a very prosperous 2020. Enjoy the game…

THE STORYSO FAR

REVIEW

THE OPENING TEN LEAGUE GAMES OF THE NEW NATIONAL LEAGUE SEASON HAVE YIELDED EIGHT WINS AND TWO DEFEATS, DURING WHICH TIME WE HAVE SCORED A TOTAL OF 46 GOALS AND CONCEDED NINE.

Our League campaign started in disappointing fashion with a 4-1 reverse at the hands of rivals, Europa, but we recovered to go on a run of eight straight victories before succumbing 2-1 to St. Joseph’s last week. There have been thrills and spills during the first half of the season and more are sure to follow when we return from the festive break. Our aim of being Champions remains the same and we will be doing all that we can to achieve that objective. IMAGES: Neil Wilson.

UNDER-23SFLYINGHIGHINTHEINTERMEDIATELEAGUE…

OUR YOUNG Under-23 team secured a hard-earned 3-2 victory over Mons Calpe this week to maintain their 100% start to the Intermediate League season. Against resilient opponents, we twice fell behind during the opening period only to equalise with goals from Jones and then Duarte. It took a magical free-kick from Jamie Bosio after the break to ensure that we secured all three points and sit top of the table for Christmas. The character and determination from our youngsters was good to see and bodes well for the battles ahead.

FAREWELLANDREW THE LINCOLN FAMILY

AS ANNOUNCED BY THE CLUB PRESIDENT, OUR CLUB SECRETARY, ANDREW HORSEY, WILL BE LEAVING AT THE END OF DECEMBER TO EMBARK IN A NEW JOB, AWAY FROM FOOTBALL.

He first arrived in Gibraltar in the summer of 2015 at the hands of Terence Polson, an Executive Member of the club at the time. Previously, before landing in Gibraltar, Andrew coached at Cwm Welfare in the South Wales Senior League and The Welsh League. His journey with our club began in the summer of 2015 when he joined us as assistant coach for our then, now disbanded, second division team, Red Imps. Before the end of that year, Andrew assumed the responsibility of Head Coach and soon rooted his ideas and football philosophy into the team. In no time he was having 15 year-old players from the Youth League debuting in Second Division football and bringing in a breath of fresh air to the team. With an eye to be able to identify the qualities of young players and make them perform to their maximum potential, he soon built a competitive team full of youngsters that took the team from the bottom end of

the table to amongst the front-runners, causing a number of upsets along the way to teams aspiring to be promoted to the first division. The following year, after the team was disbanded, Andrew took on the Under-18 team as well as being the Assistant Coach for the reserves. He went on to win the Under 18 League and in 2017, he assumed the responsibility of Club Secretary. At a very important period for the club, just after Gibraltar Football became a member of UEFA, Andrew had his work cut out with player contracts, Club Licensing, senior and youth registrations, amongst many other important responsibilities. Andrew will surely be missed in more ways than one and whoever takes over the Club Secretary’s role has a serious challenge and task ahead to deliver the level and quality of work Andrew has produced. On behalf of the Lincoln Family, we wish Andrew all the best for the future. OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME OF THE LINCOLN RED IMPS 11

MANCHESTER 62: WILSON AT THE WHEEL MANCHESTER 62 FC are one of the oldest clubs in Gibraltar and well-respected within local football circles. Having finished in fourth place in the second division last season, they set about their preparations for the new

National League campaign with their usual gusto and received plenty of praise for fielding an all Gibraltarian XI for their opening game of the season. Since then they have appointed David Wilson into the hotseat to replace another former national team boss in Jeff Wood, and currently they sit eighth in the table with three wins to their name from their opening ten League games. “This is one of Gibraltar’s biggest and most historic clubs and it is an honour to be manager,” said Wilson. “I have long admired the way that the club does things and the youth system that they have in place and now I am able affect the club’s future, which means so much to me. “There is plenty of good, local talent at the club and by working hard we can start to achieve our shared ambitions for future progression.” The club was founded in 1962 as Manchester United FC after getting permission from Matt Busby to use the name of the famous English club. They changed their name to Manchester 62 FC in 2013.
