Today it’s the start of the last League round, meaning there are only five games left to play. Our aim and objectives are to now take one game at a time and treat every game as if it was a final with the sole intention of winning them all. Our last game against Lions Gibraltar FC, we started on the wrong foot conceding a goal in the first five minutes. Fortunately, we managed to equalise very soon after and that allowed us to shake off the nerves and take control of the game. Our second goal just before half-time gave us the necessary composure for the second half, where a spectacular first opening eight minutes saw Emmanuel Sunday grab a hat-trick that practically sealed the game for us.

In other areas, our girls’ team and Under 23s have not played since my last address. As you might all be aware, our U16 Women’s National Squad are in Malta participating in the UEFA U16 Development Tournament. Although they have not managed to win a game, with an average age of below 16, and with some players in the team who have never competed anywhere near this level , they have managed to compete bravely and courageously to put up three excellent performance of which we should all feel very proud of. Well done girls!
Today we face Lynx FC, a team that, although we have beaten in the previous two rounds, are capable of upsetting anyone in this League on their day, as they almost did last weekend against St. Joseph’s. We surely need to be very concentrated throughout the game to ensure we do not concede and try and impose our tempo on proceedings.
Finally this week we were saddened at the news of the passing of Jimmy Rodriguez, father of a close friend and President of St. Joseph’s FC, Stuart Rodriguez. On behalf of the Lincoln Family, our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.
The draw for the quarter-finals of the Gibtelecom Rock Cup took place last Friday and we have been handed a tie against Boca Juniors. If we go by the result in the first

LINCOLN Red Imps recovered from going a goal down early on to chalk up a convincing 7-1 victory over Lions Gibraltar in our latest Championship Group encounter. Our opponents took the lead in the fifth minute but we were able to get back on level terms from the penalty spot on the quarter-hour mark as Kike converted. An own goal just before the break saw us get in front for the first time and we were able to build upon it in the second half as a six-minute hat-trick from Sunday put us well in command. Kike notched his second of the game with 20 minutes to go before Kyle Casciaro completed the scoring on 77 minutes with our seventh goal. LINCOLN RED IMPS: Goldwin, Lopes (ThorneLlambias 60), L. FAREWELL TO A FRIEND IT IS with great sadness which we write these words as a fellow friend and a true sportsman at heart is no longer with us. Anthony Avellano was very well known in the Gibraltar sporting scene. In his early teen years athletics and hockey were his sports of choice, following on to volleyball, when he joined the fire service at the age of 19. It was through volleyball where he reached his biggest achievements. Firstly by co-founding the Gibraltar Amateur Volleyball Association back in 1975 with recognition in the CEV and becoming President of the Small Nations Committee. As a coach Anthony claimed a Bronze medal at the 1987 Island Games held in Guernsey as well as numerous domestic trophies with his beloved Glacis United.

As a sports journalist, Anthony was always seen at out Lincoln games, be it at youth and senior levels, usually with his colleagues and also true legends of the Gibraltar sporting scene such as the late John Sheppard Snr and photographer, Johnny Bugeja. Despite his sporting achievements, he was a family man who was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren and even though he was a true Glacis United supporter, he had a soft spot for Lincoln as his son was a youth player and later youth coach, as well as a few

The Head Coach assesses our last game and looks ahead to today’s big clash…
LOOKING back at last weekend’s game against Lions Gibraltar, we didn’t enter the pitch with the correct mentality and this led to us conceding an early goal. After those early minutes of confusion, we managed to get our shape and do the things that we have worked on in training. Thankfully we were able to level the scores quickly and then grab the lead close to half-time with a moment of good fortune. The second half was the complete opposite; we started very focussed and it wasn’t long before we were 4-1 up.
hopefully this will give us the confidence to go forward. As for today’s game, we are determined to add to our points’ tally. We want that winning feeling again and return to our top level before facing Europa and St. Joseph’s again.
