Since my last address we have played two games; against St. Joseph’s FC in the league, which ended with the very much undesired result of a 1-0 defeat and against College 1975 in the Rock Cup, which we comfortably won by fifteen goals to nil. As with Europa the week before, in our game against St. Joseph’s, I personally believe that the team put up a good performance considering we played very strong rivals, but unfortunately this season, whilst we are creating many goalscoring opportunities, we’re not managing to find the back of the net. Unfortunately, we also have the added factor that our injury list keeps on increasing and this obviously has an impact at the time of fielding our strongest team. In other areas, our women are on a break before we start the five-a-side Futsal League. The U16 National Team are in Malta this week to compete in the UEFA Development Tournament and we take this opportunity to wish them the best of luck. Since the last edition of the Match Programme, our U23s have played two very strong rivals in Lynx and Europa in the Intermediate League and have managed to win both games convincingly with two very
solid performances. With three more games to be played, a win in the next game will see our young guns claim the League title for the second consecutive year, which will be a fantastic achievement. Last week we were all saddened by the passing of Antonio Avellano, a true gentleman who dedicated many years of his life to local sports. A man very well-known and much loved in the sports fraternity on The Rock and who will be very much missed. Our deepest condolences to all of his family - may he rest in peace. Finally, it was very gratifying and heartwarming to see 13 year-old Marc Yeo return to the playing field last weekend after being out injured for over nine months due to a very serious knee injury. Thanks to his determination, hard work and his desire to keep on playing football, he his back with his football family to continue playing the sport he very much loves. Welcome back, kid! Enjoy today’s game…

PLAYERQ&A ETHAN THORNE LLAMBIAS
Name: Ethan Thorne Llambias Place of Birth: Gibraltar Date of Birth: 23/11/00 Age: 19 Hobbies: PlayStation, listening to music and hiking Previous Clubs: I have been in this club since the Academy Favourite Food: Yorkshire Pudding Best experience in football: Playing for my country Worst experience: Losing an international game by seven goals or more knowing we could have done much better My role model(s) in life: My Great Grandad, John Senior Where do you see yourself in the next few years: I see myself
representing my country at senior level and I can see myself as a starting 11 player for Lincoln Mention a player you admire: Carles Puyol What can we expect from Lincoln this season: Things have not gone according to plan for a few reasons but I think as from now you can expect to see us with more character, more intensity and desire to do as well as we possibly can, I’m sure that the only way is up from now on What advice would you give to young kids who want to do well in football: Keep training and learning from your coaches, parents or friends, whoever it may be. At a young level, winning is not everything in football, if you don’t win, you learn from your mistakes and you will only get better. Most importantly instead of trying to be the best on the team, be the best for the team
What can we expect from Lincoln in this game: You can expect us to be dominant in this game and get a positive result, but obviously anything can happen in football so we have to work hard and display the correct attitude What are your views from our previous game against College 1975: We did everything we needed to do and more, the result says it all. We showed how we could keep our heads cool when things started getting messy due to rough challenges on our players and in general it was a brilliant all round performance from the players QUICK-FIRE TO FINISH... LINCOLN RED IMPS 15 COLLEGE 1975 0 GIBTELECOM ROCK CUP FIRST ROUND – 15.02.2020
LINCOLN Red Imps breezed into the next round of the Gibtelecom Rock Cup with a 15-0 victory over College 1975. We opened the scoring within the opening couple of minutes as Sunday found the net and it wasn’t long before Kyle Casciaro doubled our advantage. It was an unforgiving start as we played with real purpose and Lopes added a third goal with just 11 minutes on the clock. That lead was extended just before the half-hour mark when Sunday weighed in with his second goal of the game before Del Rio got in on the scoring act soon afterwards. Sunday completed his hat-trick to give us a six-goal lead at the break and then Lee Casciaro scored early in the second period as we continued to dictate the play. To their credit, our opponents refused to let their heads drop but Sunday was in the mood for goals and he notched his fourth before the hour-mark. Having come off the substitutes’ bench, Coombes made it 9-0 before Kyle Casciaro grabbed his second to send us into double figures. Goal 11 came from the boot of another substitute as Pibe beat the ‘keeper and repeated the trick on 71 minutes to make it 12-0. As the clock ticked down, Sunday scored three more goals to take his personal tally to seven and give us a 15-0 win and a place in the next round of the competition. ROUND UP
UNDER-23s: TWO MORE BIG WINS SINCE the last edition of the Match Programme, our Under-23s have played two very important games against two very strong opponents and come away with all six points, scoring a total of ten goals in the process.
of another solid and good performance. Once again, a goal in the eighth minute from Jamie Coombes and a second ten minutes later from Dylan Borge was enough to see us settle down quickly and completely dominate the first half.
v LYNX – WON 5-0 In their first game against secondplaced Lynx FC, a goal from Julian Del Rio in the eighth minute allowed us to settle down quickly into the game. Our young boys dominated the first 45 minutes having most of the possession. Not much changed in the second half as we remained well on top, but became more critical in front of goal. Del Rio scored again early in the second half, followed by Ellis Wilson who scored the third seven minutes later.
Europa came out determined to get back into the game at the start of the second half and we saw a more balanced game in regards to possession and goalscoring opportunities, but thanks to some very good saves from our ‘keeper, Brad ‘Gato’ Avellano, we were able to keep our opponents at bay. Fortunately it was Shay Jones in the 68th minute who added the third goal to our tally
Our boys kept on the pressure and next on the scoresheet was Shay Jones who scored the fourth of the evening in the 66th minute. Four minutes later, Del Rio again found the back of the net for his hat-trick to complete the scoring as we secured a deserved three points. v EUROPA – WON 5-1 On Monday evening, our boys chalked up another important victory courtesy 08 OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME OF THE LINCOLN RED IMPS
from a very fast and well-executed counter-attack. With ten minutes to go, Kadrian Verjaque found the back of the net from another counter-attack before Europa pulled one back soon afterwards. Llambias “Gamba” scored our fifth in the 88th minute to complete the win. Still unbeaten this season, with 14 wins and a draw, our Intermediate team enjoy a ten-point lead over secondplaced Lynx FC, who have a game in hand. Our next game is against Lions FC on March 3rd. A win will see us being crowned League Champions for the second successive year.

opportunities and made life easy for us, hence the scoreline. At the end of the day the game served to continue improving and most importantly to continue in this competition with the only aim of winning it.
LOOKING back at our last League game against St Joseph’s, I believe we dominated most of the game and we created many scoring opportunities. I strongly believe that we deserved much more and could have gone into the break with at least a two or three-goal lead, but in football when you miss those scoring opportunities normally your opponent ends up punishing you for it. Further to this, when you concede a goal in the manner that we did in were we practically gave away you end up losing the game and the three points and this obviously has hampered our title aspirations. Onto our game against College 1975 in the Rock Cup and we
As for today’s game, after our last two League defeats it is paramount that we get back on our feet again and build up our confidence.
decided to give minutes to those players who have just come out of injury and those who have not played regularly with the intention to activate further their match fitness ahead of the final stretch of the season. We came up against an opponent who did not create any scoring
ANTI-RACISM: PLAYING OUR PART IN A FAIR AND INCLUSIVE FUTURE LINCOLN Red Imps FC will not tolerate any form of racism or discrimination.
There is still a lot to be played for and whilst we accept that winning the League is going to be very difficult at this stage, attaining the second spot and a place in the UEFA Europa League is still very much achievable. Thank you for your valued support – enjoy the game… GERMAN CRESPO Head Coach
Please contact a Club Official should you experience any form of racism or discrimination at any of our matches.
