WELCOME
WELCOME BACK TO THE VICTORIA STADIUM WITHIN FOUR DAYS FOR OUR NINTH LEAGUE GAME OF THE SEASON AGAINST FOOTBALL CLUB BOCA JUNIORS. HEAD COACH: Victor Afonso ASSISTANT COACH: Daniel Segovia HEAD PHYSIO: Keith Ramirez PHYSIO: Adam Oria GOALKEEPER COACH: Miguel Angel Bazan FITNESS COACH: Daniel Fernandez STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH: Liam Mesilio KIT MAN: Jose Manuel Lopez TEAM DELEGATE: Christian Fortuna
Our last game against Bruno Magpies panned out as expected, with a wellorganised opponent battling for every ball in all areas of the pitch. A 3-0 win added three further points to our tally with some very good football played on our part at different stages of the game. It was good to see the return of Hernandez and Oli who have been out of the equation for some time due to injury. Today we face Football Club Boca Juniors, a team that sit on the bottom half of the table. A club with new management across all areas of the club surely will try and go out to cause the upset of the week. As usual, if we impose our tempo, we are confident we can walk away with a further three points ahead of our next game against St. Josephs that is going to be crucial for our League aspirations. Prior to the senior game today, our women are also in action against Europa FC. We encourage our fans to make the most of the afternoon/evening and come and support our women’s team. In the youth leagues it is worth highlighting the Lincoln
v Lincoln clash in the Under-16 Youth League, where despite the 8 -2 win by our senior boys, the performance and attitude from our younger lads must be commended and highlighted. From that game there was a certain conclusion to walk away with and that is that the future looks bright. Our U23s were also in action on Monday against Manchester 62 after a long break due to the international games. Two goals in the first half, within six minutes of each other, saw us clinch our sixth win of the season and remain undefeated. Finally, we would like to say farewell to Mr. Daniel Berllaque, who is retiring from the Technical Youth Committee after over 15 years being involved in youth football. On behalf of the Lincoln Red Imps family we would like to thank you for your service all these years and wish you a happy retirement. You will surely be missed. Enjoy the game…

We managed to get our noses in front just before the quarter-hour mark when Jamie Coombes found the net. SIXTHSTRAIGHT WIN
UNDER 23’S
MORE INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE SUCCESS…
MONDAY evening saw our Under-23s take on Manchester 62 in the Intermediate League after a long break due to the International games. Both teams showed a willingness to play the ball from the back, an attitude that was very encouraging to see from two very youthful sides. There was some neat football played, particularly in the first half. Our boys had most of the early possession and a break out wide by Ellis Wilson saw him beat his marker before delivering the perfect square ball to Kadrian Verllaque who just had to push the ball over the line to give us the lead on the quarterhour mark. It was then Wilson in the 21st minute who found the back of the net with a header from a corner bu Davan Martin. In the second half the game plan of both teams remained the same, although with a slower tempo from both teams that resulted in less goalscoring opportunities being created. Overall it was a very good performance from our boys with the higher percentage of possession on the ball giving us our sixth win of the season to
remain unbeaten as we now prepare for Sunday’s clash with Glacis United. On the negative side, we saw Dylan Borg suffer an ankle injury that may keep him from playing for a couple of weeks. However, one big positive was the return of Jamie Bosio in the 70th minute after over a year out of action due to a serious knee ligament injury that he suffered whilst playing for the recently-disappeared Gibraltar United in September 2018. Jamie, who saw all his team-mates approach the sideline to welcome and receive him onto the pitch, had this to say after the game.
08 OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME OF THE LINCOLN RED IMPS
“Having been out for a year and two months, this game was quite emotional for me personally. I have been through some physically and mentally challenging times over recent months, so it felt amazing to be back on the pitch with a young group of players in the Under-23 squad. “I feel stronger than ever and hopefully I pick up some valuable game time over the next month or so to get back to my best. “I felt that I was in good form before I got injured so now I’ve got to make up for lost time with the boys.”

THEVERDICT DANIEL SEGOVIA
ASSISTANT COACH ASSESSES OUR LATEST VICTORY…
ON SATURDAY we returned to competitive action against a new-look Bruno’s Magpies team. Under Alfonso Cortijo, Bruno’s have a new approach and it is fair to say that they are getting better as the weeks go by. They have vast experience within their squad, so to get a 3-0 victory was a pleasing result for us. It was our seventh consecutive League win to keep us at the top of the table. One of the biggest challenges that we face this season is being able to maintain our competitive edge with so many days in between matches due to International breaks and the League structure, One of the positives from Saturday’s game was the return of Oli to the starting line-up for the first time this season. We also had Anthony Hernandez back from injury and showing a determination to win his place back in the starting line-up.
Today we face a eighth-placed FC Boca Juniors. They are a team that we must not underestimate and we need to focus on our style of play and give the match a high tempo to be able to create as many goalscoring opportunities as possible. Hopefully this will allow us to secure the victory and be able to use players from the bench to get much-desired minutes on the pitch and rest some of our International players who come into this game having played four matches in such a short space of time. A victory today in addition to boosting team morale will also put extra pressure on our immediate rivals. Thank you for your support – enjoy the game… DANIEL SEGOVIA Assistant Coach

FC BOCA JUNIORS: A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY THE CLUB was founded in 2012 and joined the second division in readiness for the 2012/13 campaign. Having finished in the lower half of the table in each of the opening few seasons, they secured a third-place berth in 2017 which represented significant improvement, but was not enough to secure them a place in the play-offs. A restructuring during the summer of 2017 led to them claiming the second division title in dramatic fashion by a single point at the end of the 2017/18 season and meant that they would play top-flight football for the first time last term. They ended last season in tenth place during what was a challenging time for the club both on and off-the-pitch. Going into the new National League, they currently sit eighth with just one win from their opening eight League outings, however, with a new Technical Team recently installed, they will be hoping to kick-start their season and start moving up the table.
