As expected, our last game against Mons Calpe was going to be tough and difficult but fortunately we managed to secure three very important points.

Our two goals came in the last part of the game from Ide coming off the bench. Again, this proves that we have a strong squad with many options and variables and this is very important if we want to succeed this season.

This was our fifth consecutive win of the season that takes us to the second spot of the league, one point behind St. Joseph’s.

Today we face Europa Point FC just before the third International break of this season.

A team with past experience in the first division and with a new management on the bench, we expect them to come out and try and make life difficult for us.

We need to keep the momentum going from the last games and try and secure the three points to go into the international break with that piece of mind.

It’s also important for us to see eight of our players included in the preliminary squad of the Senior National Team who face

Switzerland and Demark in November.

This, we consider is good for our players to continue gaining further experience against tough oppositions, but at the same time we hold our breathe and hope and expect they all return fully fit for our next set of matches before the Christmas break.

Once again, our players in the National Squad are attracting the attention of foreign media, in this instance RTS, Switzerland’s National TV Channel, who are preparing the build-up for the Gibraltar v Switzerland game.

In other areas, with mid-term and the school break, very little has happened in the youth sector as we have had no youth football last weekend. Our Intermediate boys have not played this week due to many of our players on International Duty with the Under 17 team.

Finally, as this is the last program before the International break, I would like to take the opportunity to wish the National Team all the best of luck in the two games ahead of them within the next couple of weeks.

I think we made the mistake of not imposing our tempo and ended up falling into the trap of playing at their pace. Unfortunately, for one reason or other that happens in football and sometimes you win games like this one with courage and heart and I think we managed to do that QUICK-FIRE TO FINISH...

LINCOLN RED IMPS 2 MONS CALPE SC 0 GIBRALTAR NATIONAL LEAGUE – 27.10.2019 LINCOLN Red Imps were made to work hard to secure all three points courtesy of a 2-0 victory over a resilient Mons Calpe outfit.

The early action saw appeals for a penalty turned down after Lopes appeared to be pulled back inside the area but the referee waved away the protests.

A corner from Molina caused problems as it curled goalwards but was pushed away by the ‘keeper. Our opponents started to grow into the game as the first half went on having come under some early pressure.

They had a couple of efforts on goal which failed to trouble Goldwin too much as we went in at the break with the scoreline locked at 0-0.

We came out of the blocks with purpose after the restart and Kike went close early on before an inviting low ball from Casciaro found Ramon who was off target with his strike. Just before the hour-mark, we had the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot but Joseph Chipolina’s effort hit the post and we were unable to seize upon the rebound.

We remained in control, however a couple of attempts by Morgan for our opponents caused concern until we finally managed to break the deadlock with just over 15 minutes to go as substitute Gomes was alert to guide the ball home from close range.

It was a relief to see the ball hit the back of the net as our opponents started to lose their composure, which culminated in them having a player and a member of their technical staff sent off. We were able to take advantage to double our lead with time running out when Ramon combined with Gomes for the latter to notch his second of the game.

Into stoppage time and a chance opened up for young Julian Del Rio but he failed to make a clean connection and the ‘keeper was able to make the save. However, by this stage we had done enough to secure the points. It wasn’t particularly pretty but it was another victory as we continue to build momentum.

LAST Sunday we took on Mons Calpe in what we expected and what turned out to be a very tough game.

We go into the game looking to secure another three points and what would be our sixth consecutive win.

With a goalless scoreline at half-time, we needed to change our game plan, clear our ideas and address those issues that were not working for us in the first half.

WE HEAD INTO ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL BREAK AFTER TODAY’S GAME WITH LINCOLN WELL REPRESENTED IN THE NATIONAL TEAM AS THEY PREPARE TO PLAY HOST TO SWITZERLAND ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH IN OUR LATEST UEFA EURO2020 QUALIFIER.

Tickets for the game are available now. To purchase tickets, visit the GFA’s new online ticketing portal: tickets.gibraltarfa.com If you previously purchased tickets for Gibraltar v Denmark or Gibraltar v Georgia then login to your account to proceed.

If you did not purchase tickets for Gibraltar v Denmark or Georgia online, you will need to click on ‘Create Account’ in order to set up your profile.

Once you have entered your details an email will be sent to you to verify your credentials, and your account will be activated once you confirm the same via the email link.

Remember, if you are interested in joining the new Gibraltar FA Membership Scheme, please make sure you tick the box when prompted during your account set up.
