The team put up a very good performance in our last League game against Lynx, despite the long list of injuries we have been recently having.

Since my last address to you we have also played a friendly game across the border against Norwegian second division side, Assane FC, in which we beat them 2-0.

Again it was a very good performance where we were solid at the back with great work from the men up top pressuring high up the field. Both goals in the first half from two very well-executed counter attacks.

As many of you might know last weekend, we played FC Boca Juniors in the quarterfinals of the Rock Cup behind-closed-doors due to the preventative measures adopted by the GSLA and GFA due to the Coronavirus. Unfortunately, except for those who managed to see the game from a roof top, I did not get to watch it but I am told it was a comfortable 6-0 victory, with our men dominating the match for the 90 minutes. It was a job well done and we now await our opponent in semi-finals.

Today it’s back to League business and we face Bruno’s Magpies, a team that after the

transfer window has certainly proved considerably, hence their performances recently against St. Joseph’s in the Rock Cup, where they put up a very respectable performance losing just by a single goal.

It’s not going to be an easy game at all and a win is crucial if we want to continue climbing further up the table.

As to whether we shall be able to watch the game from the comfort of the stands or on a roof top, we shall have to await further developments.

Congratulations on a job well done to our Under-23 team who were crowned League Champions last week when they beat Lions Gibraltar 2-1. To once again achieve the title with an average age of 17 years old, speaks very highly of not only the players but the U23 Technical Team. I think we can all agree that the future looks bright.

Next week our ladies are back in action indoors for the Futsal League. The objective is the same as with the 11-a-side, to try and win this League as well.

LINCOLN RED IMPS 2 ASANE 0 FRIENDLY – 03.03.2020

WE CROSSED the border earlier this month for a friendly fixture against Norwegian second division outfit, Asane.

It proved to be an extremely worthwhile work-out for us as we ran out 2-0 winners courtesy of two first half goals from Pibe.

The game proved to be good preparation for our Gibtelecom Rock Cup encounter with FC Boca Juniors, which ended in a convincing 6-0 win as another brace from Pibe plus further strikes from Coombes, Paris, Rincon and Alvarez saw us progress into the semi-final.

UNDER-23s: CELEBRATION TIME! CONGRATULATIONS to our Under23 team for once again being crowned League Champions in the Intermediate League for the second consecutive year.

The 2 -1 victory over a very wellorganised young Lions FC outfit did not come easily. Our first goal came from Kyron McGrail on the quarterhour mark to open the scoring.

Some very good saves from both keepers kept the result at 1-0 until the 68th minute when Lions FC managed to equalise.

With six minutes to go until the final whistle, Ellis Wilson found the back of the net to secure the win.

It means that the team is unbeaten to date with 15 wins and a draw and with a goal difference of +51. We sit ten points clear at the top of the table with only nine points left to play for.

The Head Coach assesses our last game and looks ahead to today’s big clash…

WE GET back into League action looking to add to our points’ tally having beaten Lynx in our in last League outing at the end of February.

It was a game where we knew that our opponents would fight for everything; they have had a good season and made life tough for us.

After we went 2-0 up we had many chances to finish the game off, but we were unable to captialise upon it and luckily on this occasion, we were not punished for it.

That said, we need to learn that when we play the top teams, these mistakes will be punished.

Overall I was happy with the team’s performance. We are slowly becoming the team that I want us to be and having made progress into

the semi-final of the Rock Cup, the players are motivated and ready for the battles that lie ahead.

Today we take on a good team in Bruno’s Magpies. They will be wellprepared and their Head Coach, Juan Mari, knows this League very well and what is required to be successful.
