Since my last address many things have happened on and off-the-field of play. With some ups and down in our performances, last week saw our first defeat of the season against a very well-organised Lynx FC who we need to congratulate for their win. We have also embarked and invested on Live Streaming our games on a weekly basis. We are then analysing the data and it’s been very interesting and encouraging to see that we are not only followed in nearby countries but other countries as far as Russia, Poland, Turkey, South America and the Ivory Coast, just to mention a few. This is now an area we want to further study and explore to continue promoting the club colours and brand world-wide. On the youth scene, it’s been fantastic to see our youth back in action at the Victoria Stadium with friendly games being organised by the Technical Youth Committee after nine months of inactivity. We were saddened to hear the news that another local team, in this case FC Boca Juniors, have disappeared from the Gibraltar National League. We all know the hard work Aaron Edwards has invested in that team to the very last minutes and on behalf of the Lincoln Family we wish to thank Aaron for all his efforts in trying to keep the club afloat. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond his control he had no choice but to throw in
After seven years of being a member of UEFA I think it’s time to pause and reflect why we keep on losing teams every year. I believe we have achieved a lot over these seven years, a promotion to the “C” group of the UEFA Nations League and securing four spots for local clubs to compete in UEFA competitions next summer, but yet that formula to stop clubs disappearing has yet to be achieved. We believe that the first steps we need to take is to find some sort of financial stability platforms for all clubs to benefit; not only to sustain themselves financially, but to also compete at the highest level. An option at this stage is prize sharing, something that has been discussed at length and as a matter of priority in the GFLA Group over the past months. Our position is very clear on prize sharing - we fully support and embrace the initiative. Without a financial stability for all clubs, if we are not careful, we are going to find ourselves with 8 to 10 teams in the next few years and this, we believe, would have a detrimental impact on the future aspirations of local football at both local and International level. Football standards in general might probably take a turn for the worse as we would struggle to compete at International level as clubs and as a Nation that would inevitably then make it even more grim and unattractive to attract investment/sponsorship. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. We bid farewell to this COVID-impacted 2020 and hopefully the New Year brings back some normality to all our lives.

MICKMcELWEE LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT RESPONSE
Today we take part in our final game of 2020 and we will be looking to end the year on a winning note against Manchester 62. Looking back at our recent games, against Lions earlier this month we found ourselves up against tough and well-organised opponents. As such we had to be at our best to be able to grind out the three points. I felt that we played well for much of the game and found a strong rhythm to our play. That said, we were fortunate to take a two-goal lead into the break. The second half was highly competitive and we stuck to our task well; we were pleased with the overall performance and, of course, the result. The same cannot be said of our last outing against Lynx. Our performance was hugely disappointing and whilst we congratulate our opponents on their victory, we have to be self-critical and acknowledge that we fell well below the standards we expect here. I will be looking for the right response today. I want to see a much better approach to the
game where we ensure that we perform to the levels that I know we are capable of from a squad that has so much quality and potential.

YOUNG GUNS KYLE CLINTON
How is the season going so far for you? So far, I’m seeing my football season going great. I think I am progressing quickly and learning a lot from my teammates and coaches, correcting errors and trying to learn from my mistakes. What was your reaction when you were called up for the senior team? My initial reaction to being called up was of excitement, although I was quite scared and nervous about it, but the players and technical team really welcomed me and this helped me to settle into the squad. My confidence has continued to grow. What were your feelings when you went into the pitch for your debut? I was feeling extremely proud when I made my debut. I knew I had to keep things simple to gain confidence on the pitch and that’s what I did. What do you expect for the rest of the season? Hopefully I can break fully into the firstteam and become a regular player in the squad, but until then I’ll keep working hard and improving.
RYAN AZOPARDI
How is the season going so far for you? Having been training with the first-team since September, I am pleased with how things have gone so far for me. The players and technical team have made me feel part of the squad since the first training session, which boosted my confidence in every way. I also must thank the manager for having confidence in me to be part of this team. Training with the first-team helps to improve my football ability as I don’t just train, I also learn from the squad who are very experienced in both club and international level. What was your reaction when you were called up for the senior team? After training with the squad for a few
weeks and then playing in some friendlies during September, it was good to know that I did well enough to be called up into the first-team matchday squad in October. These are the first steps for me into the senior game and I intend to take my chance. What were your feelings when you went into the pitch for your debut? My debut came a few games after my first call-up, it was against Europa Point. At first I couldn’t hold my nerves but after a few minutes on the pitch, I felt really comfortable playing and helping the team secure the win. What do you expect for the rest of the season? I hope for the rest of the season I can keep getting minutes at the highest level possible in Gibraltar and hopefully finish the season on a high by being involved in the team winning the League.

How is the season going so far for you? So far, my season has been great! For the first time in my career I have been training with the senior squad and I am

learning from being around great players and coaches, which has improved my development massively already. What was your reaction when you were called up for the senior team? When I found out I was in the matchday squad, I felt excited and a little bit nervous but when the day came my nervous had gone and I was ready to play. What were your feelings when you went into the pitch for your debut? I didn’t think I would get the chance to come on and make my debut so when the coach asked me to go warmed up, I felt very proud. Once I came on the pitch, I knew what I had to do and playing around such great players allowed my confidence to grow as the game went on. My debut was topped off with a goal and assist, which made the occasion extra special. What do you expect for the rest of the season? I hope that throughout the rest of the season I can keep improving by training with the senior squad and get more minutes on the pitch.

BACKIN THEGAME UNDER-23S RETURN TO ACTION…
TUESDAY evening saw the return of football for our Under-23 team after almost ten months of inactivity as we took on College 1975. With a 2 -1 scoreline in our favour, our boys secured that very important first win of the season. It was a game that we dominated from start to finish as our opponents were forced to play on the counter-attack. We had to wait until just before the halftime interval to take the lead when Kyron ‘Kiri’ McGrail broke the deadlock
with a first-time volley following a wellexecuted corner from Davan Martin. The second period continued in much the same vein as we enjoyed the majority of possession, however, we were pegged back just after the hourmark when Kaylan Franco found the net for our opponents. We refused to let our heads drop and within seven minutes we were back in front when Finlay Cawthorn met a cross from the right by Julian Laguea to guide the ball home and secure the victory.
“It was important to get that first win under our belt after such a long time of inactivity,” admitted Head Coach, Malcolm Martin. “Even though we have been training since the lifting of lockdown a few months ago, it was evident that our match fitness levels need to kick in. “Overall I was happy with our performance and now we can’t wait for the next game to come around.” IMAGES Neil Wilson

LATESTACTION A round-up of our December action…
THE MONTH of December got underway against Europa Point and our patience in the opening exchanges paid off when Lopes gave us the lead on 22 minutes. We were able to double our advantage through Kike just over ten minutes later and as we started to build some momentum, Lopes weighed in with his second of the game and Yahaya in first half stoppage time put us well in command. Credit to our opponents because they came out with determination after the break and stuck to the task in hand to ensure that we didn’t have everything our own way. In fact, we had to wait until the final ten minutes to add to our scoring when youngster Cawthorn bagged his first senior goal straight after entering the action. We added a sixth through Moreno before our opponents pulled a goal back at the death to make it 6-1.
Our last game ended in disappointment as we slipped to defeat for the first time this season at the hands of Lynx. It was always going to be a hard-fought and close affair and so it proved during the first half where both teams cancelled each other out as it remained goalless. Next up was Lions and in a game whereby we never really got into top gear, we ran out 3-0 winners. Our opponents were well-drilled and full of endeavour but we were always in control of proceedings and Kyle Casciaro set us on our way with the opener with 13 minutes on the clock. Kike doubled our lead and that’s how it stayed going into the half-time interval. The only scoring of the second period saw Kike find the net from the penalty spot for his second and our third of the game.
The breakthrough came for our opponents just five minutes into the second half and it gave them the confidence to get a second goal from the penalty spot on the hour-mark. It gave us a mountain to climb and we were unable to trouble the scoring as we went down to a 2-0 reverse. The hope is that we ca respond in the right way today in order to end the month on a positive note. IMAGES Neil Wilson.
