Council President Pro Tem Price was born and raised in the Los Angeles City Council District that he was elected to represent in 2013, and was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2017 and 2022. His work is guided by his deep-rooted desire to make South LA a vibrant place where people want to live, work and play.
In 2015, Councilmember Price led the fight to raise the minimum wage for Los Angeles workers to $15 an hour. He introduced and carried the Fair Chance Initiative across the finish line, which allows formerly incarcerated individuals a fair shot when applying for jobs, and was a leader in the establishment of the City’s first sidewalk vending ordinance.
And, in 2021, Councilmember Price initiated the charge to implement a Guaranteed Basic Income pilot program in Los Angeles, and the initial District 9 pilot turned into a $40 million program that is now benefiting about 3,200 households.

Bleu is probably best known for his role as Chad Danforth in Disney’s Emmy Award-winning global franchise High School Musical. This year, Bleu returned to familiar territory guest starring as himself in the third season, as well as the upcoming fourth season, of the hit Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
In 2021 Bleu starred in his debut Hallmark Channel movie Love, For Real playing the role of Marco Tate, and in the Lifetime Holiday movie, A Christmas Dance Reunion where he was reunited on screen with his former High School Musical co-star Monique Coleman.
Bleu is the Chair of the National Advisory Board of the Looking Ahead Program, a division of The Actors Fund focused on helping professional young performers and their families thrive amid the unique challenges of working in the entertainment industry.

Monique is honored and delighted to host this year’s Gala for the Children alongside her dear friend Corbin and support such a worthy cause.
A Place Called Home provides a safe, nurturing environment with proven programs in arts, education and wellness for the young people in South Central Los Angeles to help them improve their economic conditions and develop healthy, fulfilling and purposeful lives.
Welcome to the 2022 Gala for the Children, a celebra tion of the mission and work of A Place Called Home, and my first Gala as CEO! I am truly honored to lead this wonderful organization as we enter our 30th year of service to our South Central community.
This evening will enjoy exciting performances by A Place Called Home’s musicians and dancers and hear heartfelt stories directly from APCH youth and family members. We will also celebrate two wonderful honorees: Tom McCabe and Curren D. Price, Jr., both longtime friends and champions of APCH. I send my sincere thanks and appreciation for their dedication to making this night a great success.
My own story is not unlike those of the members you will hear from tonight. I am the daughter of undoc umented immigrants who grew up in a low-income neighborhood and I became a teen mom out of high school. But because of the support of my parents and family, I stand here today as the first Latina CEO of A Place Called Home.
I know firsthand that the saying is true, it takes a village, and we are that village for the hundreds of youth members that come to APCH each day. All of us together—our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and supporters—are transforming the lives of young people in South Central, and tonight is not only a celebration, but an opportunity for us to raise critical resources to continue showing up in bigger and better ways for our youth and families.
I hope that you will be inspired tonight, and that you will stay connected to A Place Called Home. I invite you to sign up for a tour and come down to our cam pus to witness for yourself the magic of this organiza tion. Thank you for being here tonight and investing in the success of our youth and families. Together, we are changing the world.
Welcome to A Place Called Home’s 2022 Gala for the Children! It is so wonderful to be back celebrating together in person!
Our community has been through many hardships over the past three years, but APCH has remained a stable resource—adapting to provide weekly grocery deliveries and direct assistance with rent and utility bills, along with regular virtual programming during the temporary campus closure. That’s what APCH does best. We adapt, adjust, and we evolve to ensure that our work is meeting the needs of the youth and families we serve. Now, our campus has reopened, and we are back serving hundreds of young people that cross our threshold each day.
Tonight is a special occasion for many reasons, but especially because we have the pleasure of introducing our new CEO, Norayma Cabot. We met lots of caring, compassionate people during our search for a new leader, but when we met Norayma, we knew she was the right one for the job. Her kindness, intelligence, and passion for the mission of APCH were clear, and it is that passion that will push us forward as we enter our 30th year of service.
We are also thrilled to honor two dear friends this evening: Tom McCabe and Curren D. Price, Jr. who are exemplary individuals and well-deserving of tonight’s awards. A longtime supporter and now Board Member, Tom continues to be a wonderful thought partner, advocate, and driver of APCH’s mission. And as Los Angeles City Council President Pro Tem, Curren not only partners with APCH on many community initiatives, but is dedicated to building a thriving future for families in District 9. Congratulations, gentlemen! You inspire us all.
I want to give special thanks to the dedicated APCH staff members who continue to raise the bar each day, bringing the APCH mission to life, and to my fellow Board Members—this event would not be possible without your dedicated support. And, most importantly, thank you for being here with us tonight in support of the youth and families of A Place Called Home. I hope that you will be moved to get involved and will come down to APCH for a tour to see your support in action.
