Kindle Advent Candles

"Kindle Advent Candles" is a new Advent candle lighting song to the tune of "In the Bleak Midwinter." Each verse takes up a different theme of Advent. Hope challenges our tendency to lose confidence in our dreams - to despair in the face of suffering Peace focuses not just on violence itself, but on those who benefit and those who are harmed. Joy confronts the snares of shame that wrap tighter as it convinces many to remain hidden Love shows hatred for what it is - a snarling monster undone by a love light. On Christmas Eve, the Christ candle is lit. We meet the firstborn of creation, the one born of Mary, the one who lives in our heart and is with us always. The themes of Advent and the miracle of Christmas are not presented as abstract notions. The struggles and stresses of our lives are lifted up even as we are led to see God's grace shining through all.
