Flood Recovery Continues By William Berning Devastated communities all along the Front Range continue their recovery efforts from the massive and catastrophic flooding in North Central Colorado that occurred last month. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has listed 11 counties as eligible for individual and household assistance and 18 counties as eligible for public assistance. Those eligible for individual and household assistance include: Adams County, Arapahoe County, Boulder County, Clear Creek County, El Paso County, Fremont County, Jefferson County, Larimer County, Logan County, Morgan County, and Weld County. Those eligible for public assistance include: Adams County, Arapahoe County, Boulder County, Clear Creek County, Crowley County, Denver County, El Paso County, Fremont County, Gilpin County, Jefferson County, Lake County, Larimer County, Lincoln County, Logan County, Morgan County, Sedgwick County, Washington County, and Weld County. Please turn to page 7 for further detailed infor-
mation on the FEMA designations and assistance. FEMA has also designated all Colorado counties, not just those listed above, as eligible to apply for assistance under the Hazard Mitiga tion Grant Program. According to the FEMA website, The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) provides grants to states and local governments to implement long-term hazard mitigation mea-
sures after a major disaster declaration. The purpose of the HMGP is to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters and to enable mitigation measures to be implemented during the immediate recovery from a disaster. The HMGP is authorized under Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. Eligible Applicants and/or Subapplicants [include]: •State •Local governments •Indian tribes or other tribal organizations •Private non-profit organizations Individual homeowners and businesses may not apply directly to the program; however an eligible Applicant or Subapplicant may apply on their behalf.

As we Coloradans continue to work and receive help to recover from these devastating floods, we are grateful for all of the assistance we are receiving in these extraordinarily difficult times.
