• What is it? – City of Sarasota’s first transportation master plan, which serve as a playbook for how the City not only invests in transportation infrastructure, but also how it achieves the community’s larger quality of life goals.
Began with an inventory of transportation projects
Over 100 projects were scored and analyzed
Only 50 made it in the plan
Accepted by City of Sarasota Commission on July 2020
What is it?
– Is a 22.5 mile nature trail that links to the Venetian Waterway Park at the historic Venice Train Depot, where trail users can continue north to Payne Park in downtown Sarasota.
– It has over 500,000 trail users a year
• CSX Railroad was purchased after a decade of planning
2008
• The Legacy Trail from the Venetian Waterway to Culverhouse Nature Park, Sarasota was completed
• Voters Bond Referendum approve –provided funding for the Legacy Trail to extend to the City of Sarasota
2022
• Legacy Trail extension from Palmer Ranch to City of Sarasota was completed
● Established on July 11, 2016 as an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
● FLT exists to support, promote, enhance and protect The Legacy Trail, a Sarasota County Park, and its trail connectors.
● Raise funds to aid in the development, operation, maintenance and improvement of The Legacy Trail, its trail connectors and related facilities within the guidelines established in the operating agreement with Sarasota County.
