The First Coast Section is pleased to host the 2023 Florida Planning Conference in Jacksonville! We will be meeting Sept. 5-8, 2023, at the Hyatt Regency on the St. Johns Riverfront in Downtown Jacksonville.

This year we will focus on dynamic speakers, break-out sessions and mobile tours that will facilitate future ready cities. An emphasis will be placed on equity, diversity, and inclusion within the planning profession and provide a “lessons learned” aspect for the enrichment of attendees.

We hope you will join us at our pre-conference workshops and receptions to meet old and new friends, and experience all Jacksonville has to offer.

This year you will notice a small price increase as hotel catering and service costs have also increased significantly. We understand that prices have increased everywhere, and we are sorry to do the same. This adjustment will allow us to continue hosting this stellar event for you. Please note, however, we will open registration two weeks earlier, the week of June 5, with our Early Bird Discounted price. There will also be a late registration window beginning August 5. There will be no on-site registration.

SESSION FOCUS DOWN TO THE ROOTS: This track explores regulatory topics such as ethics, planning law, private property rights (climate change effects, case for eminent domain), and moratoriums. The track may also include other current conversation topics, such as short-term rental and sign regulations.

NATURE & NURTURE: This track describes innovative strategies for equitable and inclusive planning solutions, including but not limited to, age-friendly and legacy communities, school and transportation planning, community engagement, missing middle housing, and workforce housing.

SEVEN BRIDGES: This track centers on equitable and inclusive placemaking and redevelopment, mobility, infrastructure, complete streets, sustainable communities, and planning for increased population growth.

RIVER TO SEA: This track concentrates on community health and equity, park planning, wildlife corridors, resiliency, green infrastructure, environmental planning, and food policy.

Emphasis should be placed on equitable and inclusive projects and solutions.

STANDING WATCH: This track focuses on facility and resiliency planning. Topics covered may include military planning, coastal planning, floodplain management, planning for natural disasters, and declaration of emergencies, and planning for schools and emergency services.

CHANGING TIDES: This track will zero in on land use, the use of geographic information systems (GIS), planning with new technology, technology solutions, and urban design and development.

COMPELLING MOBILE WORKSHOPS

ROOM RATES $148 / night for single-double occupancy Discounted self-parking: $15 / night.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES This year, the Florida Planning Conference will include a Student Poster Competition & Session encouraging students to participate and share their work with the conference audience. Posters will be on display in the exhibit hall for the duration of the conference.

The conference program will include an announcement with the chosen poster applicants’ names and areas of interest. This is an excellent opportunity for students to meet and connect with planning professionals while displaying their work. Go to florida.planning.org/students for more information. Poster entries are due by July 17.
