The AOS school-wide priority for the 2023-2024 school year was Building Empathy and Understanding Perspec tives. Guided by this principle, our students immersed themselves in various experiences and activities aimed at broadening their understanding of the world and foster ing a deeper sense of empathy. Whether visiting the Saint Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Monastery, attend a presen tation from the Children’s Alopecia Project, or learning about diverse holidays celebrated within our community, our students embraced the opportunity to see the world through different lenses.
This commitment to empathy and understanding is mir rored in the generous spirit of our community. I am thrilled to share that our Annu al Fund campaign once again surpassed expectations, raising over $1 million. Parent participation reached 82 percent, and our faculty and staff maintained their unwaver ing support with a 100 percent participation rate. We also celebrated our community’s spirit of generosity at our bi-annual gala, where we all had a fantastic time and raised over $750,000 for the school. This event highlighted the strong sense of camaraderie and shared purpose that defines AOS.
By now, you have heard that we have embarked on an exciting new journey with the introduction of the “Light the Way” capital campaign. During the quiet phase of this campaign, many generous families have already made significant contributions. This project will complete Phase II of the 2013 master plan and will provide new, state-ofthe-art athletics and arts facilities, ensuring that AOS continues to provide an excep tional educational environment for our students. You will hear much more about this campaign in the coming months.
AOS is not just a school; it is a vibrant community where generosity and a shared commitment to our values set us apart. Your contributions are vital to our mission, providing the resources needed to foster the growth and development of our students in every facet of their lives. Because of your support, our students are better equipped to become future leaders who will make a positive impact on the world with empathy and understanding.

>A WORD FROM
As we all reflect on the past year, I am filled with gratitude for our community’s exceptional support of AOS through the Annual Fund, Gala, new Arts & Athletics facility’s ongoing campaign, and a range of community events.
Last summer, our family traveled to Italy and was deeply moved by the large and small churches throughout the country, each characterized by inspiring beauty and feats of engineering. We were struck by the dedication of the benefactors whose gifts centuries ago made these masterpieces possible. Their contributions serve as a poignant reminder of how such philanthropy can leave an enduring legacy that benefits generations.
Our community’s continuous support for AOS has a similar, lasting impact on our children and the lives they will lead. Thanks to your contributions, our Annual Fund campaign was once again a tremendous success, raising over $1.2 million. (A new record!) Our Annual Fund chairs Kelli Lilienstern and Nicole Singer, along with Jill Buja and our Advancement team deserve our enthusiastic thanks for their outstanding leadership in this effort.
Our biennial Gala was a night to remember, providing a special opportunity for us to gather, eat, dance, and celebrate AOS! I want to applaud our Gala co-chairs, Illa Gaunt and Leslie Pitts, whose dedication and creativity ensured the event’s success. Their hard work was instrumental in creating such a spectacular evening “glamping under the moon!”
Looking ahead to the new Arts & Athletics facilities, our community’s generosity is reflected in the enthusiastic support for this new endeavor. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Marion Anderson and Ianni Palandjoglou for their exceptional fundraising leadership so far. Their tireless efforts are helping lay the foundation for decades of spectacular Olympics, 8th Grade Musicals, sports championships, and many other fantastic events! We will share more exciting updates about this project, so stay tuned!
I would also like to express my deep appreciation to our departing trustees: Spyros Catechis, Byron Cherry, Kevin Cokinos, Nicole Postolos, Janell Reniers, and Jason Stabell. Their devoted service, wisdom, and expertise have contributed immeasurably to AOS’ growth and success. We are immensely thankful for their dedication.

>A WORD FROM
While on “take down” duty after the AOS Olympics in May, a new member of the AOS staff remarked to me, “I can’t believe how much the parents do for AOS!” This was her first Olympics experience, and she was amazed at how plentiful and dedicated our parent volunteers were on that day. I, however, wasn’t surprised at all. Our AOS parent volunteer community never fails to step up when needed. It is a big part of what makes AOS special.
Our school year started with E Phili Mas volunteers welcoming new AOS families to our community with coffees, playdates, and popsicles on the playground, followed by a spectacular Back to School Breakfast to get everyone in the AOS spirit. In the fall, our Book Fair said “Aloha to Reading,” welcoming AOS readers to its sunny shores, while the aptly renamed Mrs. Nikkie’s Spaghetti Dinner provided delicious food to the community while commemorating our beloved Mrs. Nikkie.
In the winter, PTC activities continued with a spectacular Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week, complete with what could have been the Guiness Book of World Records largest charcuterie board and other lovely treats! In March, our “Troop AOS Glamping Gala” broke fundraising records as the community danced the night away under the moon and munched on campfire goodies.
This spring, the EIKON Art Show was a rousing success, with attendance higher than ever. The community was treated to walls and tables filled with art (including interactive art), while students especially enjoyed the scavenger hunt. Finally, in May, AOS was transformed into a sea of pirate ships, skeletons, mermaids, and castaways for Olympics, Pirates of the Aegean. It was truly magical!
This year our PTC board and event committees included 116 volunteers in leadership roles and hundreds more day-of helpers. With so many parents balancing full-time jobs, this was no small feat! In addition to the large events, over 20 PTC committees, room parents, and grade-level reps worked all year long to support our kids, faculty, and staff behind the scenes. PTC fundraising broke records this year, raising just under $900,000 for AOS. This PTC board has been so wonderful to work with, and I appreciate each and every one of you; you made my job look easy with your dedication and efforts for AOS.
My family has been part of this exceptional community for seven years. This year is our last year at AOS. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a loving and generous community. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your PTC president. It has truly been an honor and pleasure. AOS Yes!

The Dads Club continues to be a strong part of the AOS community and we are working to keep growing the team. We are looking for a few new Board Members to join the team and support the great events and traditions of the AOS Dads Club.
Last year, we continued to have superior turnout at both our Daddy Daughter night at Sam Sann Ninja Warrior Gym and Father Son night at Speedy’s Fast Track. Special thanks to our new Social Chair, Jarred King, who helped coordinate the event space, food, and beverages for the 200+ people we had at each event.
Our most successful fundraiser is the Panos Georgiou Memorial Golf Tournament held at BraeBurn Country Club. Led this year by Robert Charles, Griffin Haby, and David Strauss, we nearly sold out the event with 128 golfers! This event generates over $50,000, helps to fund all of the other Dads Club events, and gives back to the teachers and school.
The Sporting Clays Tournament was held this year at the American Shooting Centers, and I am happy to report that we raised over $16,000. A great time was had by all! Thank you, Joe Balat, for chairing this event and the effort you put into it.
Last year’s big new event for the Dads Club was the Family Tailgate and Jimmy Pappas Memorial BBQ Cook-off led by Jason Orsak. With this new format, the original BBQ Cookoff was reimagined to bring the AOS community together after a fun-filled summer, while still enjoying some of the best BBQ in town. We had inflatables for the smaller kids, popcorn and cotton candy machines, Kona Ice, a BBQ competition and lunch, a large TV for game-watching, great music, and an epic silly string fight.
We are grateful to the Advancement Office for their support in making these outstanding events possible. A special thanks to Katherine Monk and Charlotte Wallin whose tireless effort, enthusiasm, and care are central to the success of the AOS Dads Club.
It’s been my privilege to serve as president this past year. I’d like to thank all the Board Members and volunteer dads that make the Dads Club possible.
