This camp works to ensure that every student has a solid grasp of the fundamentals of chess: piece movement, piece value, setting up the board, and basic algebraic notation. From there, campers learn basic checkmates, opening strategies, and tactics. Chess is a timeless and endlessly beneficial game for all ages. Learning chess at a young age has been proven to help improve focus, strategy, and critical thinking.

SESSION 5: JULY 19-23 | 9:00 AM-3:00 PM, ALL DAY CAMP Annunciation Orthodox School is a proud host of the Creative Writing Camp, sponsored by Writers in the Schools and Rice University’s School of Literacy and Culture. This widely popular camp provides a unique setting in which campers learn the power of words, gain practice in self-expression, and expand their creativity. Hesitant writers bloom in this supportive environment as they experience different ways of writing and develop the confidence to think of themselves as writers. Campers who already see themselves as authors develop new skills, stretch their creativity, and enjoy inspiration and mentoring from professional writers. TGA is an introductory program that has partnered with the United States Tennis Association to create a fun and innovative tennis program for all campers. TGA’s 5-level curriculum includes games, drills, and physical fitness activities that improve motor skills, agility, and handeye coordination. Every TGA class focuses on academic concepts developed by educational experts, the rules and etiquette of tennis, and skill development. TGA brings all of the equipment, training materials, and a 10:1 camper to instructor ratio to allow for plenty of individual attention. Our goal is to not only develop our camper’s tennis skills but to give them the building blocks for future achievement on the tennis court and in life.
