EDITOR’S NOTE

S A great thanks to our principals, Ar. Suresh Singh sir and Ar. Rohit Shinkre sir, our faculty members and all the students to give us an opportunity to curate this semester's newsletter.

Being acclimatized to the online mode, academites have been significantly flaring in academics as well as extracurriculars, due to persistent guidance of all the faculty members. Academy is now steadily shifting to the offline mode with a renewed momentum.

The semester commenced with unprecedented academic events and quite innovative cultural events that helped rejuvenate the academites amidst the monotonous academic schedule. Furthermore, the online experience was amplified with edifying dialogues, webinars and competitions conducted by the Student body.

This has been possible by active involvement of all the students, faculties, class representatives, editorial representatives, cultural representatives, social media team and the student council and the AOA faculty as one collective body.

Breaking the stereotype of practicing as an architect after completing the five years intensive course was the key feature of this dialogue. Anirudh pursues writing as a career where he finds his inspiration to solve the problems from stories by applying his problem-solving skills which he gained from the course. He mentioned that architecture teaches you to be patient which is the key factor of problem-solving.

Living in a world where climate change is imminent, Ar. Dhara Kabaria provided a fresh perspective into the world of upcycling and creating full-fledged houses, offices, restaurants and schools out of old shipping containers, an experiment she started back in 2014. She shows how any discarded object can be reclaimed and brought back to life that results in beautiful pieces of furniture, and decor.

The dialogue allowed us the opportunity to explore the world of shipping containers and the extent to which recycling can be integrated with architecture to create usable spaces.

Ar. Sanjay Mohe Architect Sanjay Mohe elaborated on the material aspect of light and its application in man-made structures. He put forth his design philosophy, explaining the ways to utilise natural light as an element of design functionality and aesthetics. Supporting this he presented a structured viewing of one of his key projects namely VIT and addressed questions coming from faculty and students.

The concept of documenting through a series was novel and unheard of. Although our excitement knew no bounds, we were aware that this study was going to be no cake walk. The experience of working together as a class was wholesome to say the least. We learnt a lot, not only about the architecture and lifestyle of the village, but also about our strengths and weaknesses as a class. The learnings as well as the friendships that emerged as a result of this study will remain close to our hearts forever.

would always be a very interesting opportunity for any student, especially in a creative field like architecture.

The aim was to re-monumentalism the publicity of the hotel, that sits right in the heart of the artistic and culture-rich district of Kala Ghoda. In addition to attaining the sensitivity to the context, the students were pushed to understand the existing utilisation and structural system of the building, and to sensitively propose a design solution, keeping in mind all of the reusable and restorable members. As such, these stories can be placed on a timeline irrespective of its factual nature. This timeline helps us understand the originality and additions that occur to the story and how a narrative unfolds.

This crucial fluidity allows for permutations and combinations to exist that help us curate our own platform to explore and read the world in our own way.

The illustration talks about the dynamic and structured flow of the bees according to the spatial syntax and experience.

The place-markers identified at different locations are diverse in terms of textures, patterns and edge conditions and are allied by the camouflaged dynamic movement pattern of the bees in varied dimensions.The flow of the modular pattern resembles the structured and definitive flow of a bee house, while free flowing form relates to their movement in the world outside.

The art of storytelling is rightfully the heart and core basis of design..

Identifying and translating architectural ideas gives us the roots of design: Materiality, perception of space and the Purpose. This storyboard recognised a real life context and amalgamated it with these roots! Humans are therefore kept as a centroid so as to map their behaviour and experience with the space. It is in this way that they ultimately give life to the maze hereby completing the story.

What does freedom mean to us today? How independent are we? The definition of attaining individualism, independence and freedom has changed over time. There are still many more issues to resolve, yet we have made great progress so far!

In this age of digital culture and expression, despite the adversities of the lockdown we acquired various ways of establishing old connections and obtaining new ones across the globe. Forced to work in isolated spheres, we studied and observed our families/work in a different perspective. Today, as we are slowly coping up with the pandemic,we may be ardently wishing for the revival of the old “normal” but maybe it’s time to reflect on the same.

The Sports Department of the Student Council involves students across all batches to actively participate in yoga, workout and training sessions. To engage students in physical activities helps them focus better and be healthy. Online screening of matches gave students a platform to cheer together helping vertical interaction between juniors and seniors.

Amaan and Vinti of Third eye training brought in some steadfast workouts. Starting the sunday on a positive note gave them a strong heads up for the week ahead.

‘STORIES OF UNCANNY ‘ In the event Siddha Kannur was invited as a guest to talk about structuring of narratives and telling them to create a whole tale out of it. There were mind tickling exercises where the students had to intently listen to the narrator and write down keywords to develop a story further. The meet ended with brilliant questions from the audience and a very special piece of artwork was displayed and explained by the guest.

VING PERCEPTION OF PANDEMIC COLLEGE

College in pandemic times is certainly different than ever. This virtual college system would be remembered for all the tangible factors, but a person living through it, is well acquainted with the peculiarity it holds. A usual meet up is no more a warm hug or even being in the same room.

Our virtual presence is governed by a control system of neatly choreographed buttons on the screen. Nevertheless, eating behind our screens at home, makes us dreadfully wonder, what could the chaos at the canteen sound like. Virtual world is like having parallel portals that host different environments.

Surviving a year through messages and apps and network issues and voice cracking, college still seems like a thing to wonder about. This graphic is an attempt to portray the same, the portals, the hesitation to talk, when divided into different environments and the overall separation which leads to general transactions suffering time lags. The vivid illustration also tries to capture the sudden change in materiality of a college environment, as now it is embedded into a digital network.
