Toba Caldera Resort (TCR) is a 386.72 hectares eco-tourism destination, located in North Sumatera, approximately 130 kilometers from Medan, the capital of the province.T he site has fantastic cliff edge setting with 360-degree view to Bukit Barisan Mountains, Sigapiton Valley, Lake Toba and Samosir Island. Surrounded by local coffee, corn, and vegetable plantation with patches of eucalyptus and pine forest, TCR offers a combination of natural and cultural wonders.

This project represents a new approach of tourism development in North Sumatera, an international class accommodation, offering a new lifestyle experience, with environmentally sound concept.

TCR Master Plan formulates an integrated strategy to unite three regional pillars, environmental, cultural and development. To promote wise and sensitive development, respect cultural heritage and be adaptive to natural contexts. The holistic approach aims to guide future regional developments, as well as to contribute to the growth of the tourism industry and stimulate local to regional economy.

Toba Caldera Resort vision is to create an integrated prime eco-tourist destination; providing a variety of high-quality attractions and accommodations; increasing the value, awareness and understanding of Batak cultural heritage; within Lake Toba - the largest volcanic lake in the world and one of UNESCO Global Geopark.

The resort will have three districts, the Central Village, North Ridge, and South Ridge. Each will have its own unique character, programs, and features, complementing each other to create a well-integrated resort complex. in order to achieve the it, there area some design principles of the development:

1. Provide diverse tourism offerings, themes, and activities that cater to various visitor groups

2. Create a clear hierarchy and suitable development program for the public-semi private-private zone

3. Ensure convenient access to various destinations

4. Celebrate and take advantage of natural settings

5. Create synergy between existing communities and resort

6. Create memorable experiences through creative placemaking and programming. development
