o1 The Thermal Garden CIBALI AYACAPI HAMAM, ISTANBUL, TURKEY Professor Igor Peraza Designed in collaboration with Negar Shafiee Fatema Al Osta The Thermal Garden rehabilitates the dilapidated Cibali Ayakapı Hammam as an agricultural research and community center, reviving its historical significance while at the same time introducing a contemporary architectural narrative. Located in the heart of Istanbul’s Fatih district along the southern bank of the Golden Horn, the project juxtaposes preservation and innovation. The new intervention mirrors the pure geometry and formal clarity of the original hammam while intentionally contrasting it in materiality and spatial experience. While the historic structure is introverted, heavy, and stereotomic; defined by stone, brick, and marble, the new addition is open, light, and tensile, built with sustainable materials like KALWALL and recycled steel. Inspired by the traditional art of Ebru (Turkish paper marbling), the design portrays the layering of culture and vibrant colors, bringing together craft and architecture in a space that welcomes light, color, and community engagement.

relationship between enclosed and open-to-air underground spaces and their discreet subterranean connections. The double-height fabrication spaces are positioned beneath angular skylights, framed by overlooking studios and supported by peripheral services, storage, and technician offices. Directly connected to CAAD through the existing wood labs, the extension ensures seamless continuity of workflow from design to assembly. A sunken courtyard and communal lounge link the new structure to the broader campus fabric. The project aims to creates a contemplative and productive environment to further develop CAAD’s design build program

Strategically integrated air vents distributed throughout the structure to promote passive ventilation, enhancing natural airflow and minimizing dependence on mechanical cooling systems

A multi-layered skylight system comprising of tensile fabric, a space frame, and a double-glazed curtain wall enveloped in a Mashrabiya-inspired screen, to mitigate solar heat gain while allowing for natural daylight to come through

The hub features an expansive fabrication space with new laboratories, while the Design and Build studios are positioned to overlook and engage with the making process below

Located along the Dubai Creek, adjacent to the Jameel Arts Centre, ‘The Weave’ is envisioned as a museum and cultural art center to honor the life and work of Emirati artist Hassan Sharif. The design adopts a radial, pinwheel-like geometry to capitalize on the panoramic views of the Al Jaddaf waterfront, while organizing programmatic zones around a dynamic central core.

Inspired by Sharif’s intricate weaving techniques, the project features a modular precast concrete roof system that performs as a filtration device controlling the amount of sunlight within the gallery spaces.

Sustainability is central to the project’s material palette, with precast concrete, reclaimed wood, and recycled steel used to reduce environmental impact and enhance building performance.

Situated along the banks of the Al Qasba Canal, in the Al Qasba district in Sharjah, this architectural landscape intervention addresses critical urban and public realm challenges. The project is designed to mitigate and control flooding caused due to storm water from the surrounding catchment zone. Beyond flood management, the proposal aims to revitalize the edge of the canal by enhancing pedestrian connectivity and reactivating public space through the ‘naked street’ concept. The design promotes a shared environment for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Existing waterfront restaurants have been integrated into the scheme with indoor dining, outdoor dining as well as dining areas extending along the canal bank. The project attempts to reinforce the canal as a social and ecological spine of the suburb

Soft Armature is a speculative, process and research driven architectural project that envisions a temporary adoptable shading system that can be deployed across a number of different spatial environments. Utilizing Gothic ribbed vaults and brutalist massing as structural and conceptual inspiration, the project explores the intersection between permanence and transience through fabric casted forms anchored to a ribbed framework.

The system aims to support a range of programs from sheltering pilgrims and open air markets to hosting cultural gatherings. Infrastructural yet sculptural, the project proposes a living architecture that evolves, changes and erodes, conforming with the landscape within which it is placed

The project comprises of a series of parametric modules, waiting in height providing different atmospheric conditions for different program. These modules have spatial continuity unified along a single datum with the ground plane being carved out to accommodate these shifts and volumes.
