OLYMPICS Is the USA the real Olympic ‘Owner’? The Olympic most powerful nations in a more balanced and deep analysis Every Olympiad we see, hear and read about the Olympics superpowers, the struggle between USA, Russia and China to rule the total podiums, to be the medals’ kings and/or queens. The measurement is done grossly; the media see the medal count and give this ‘award’ to the country that gained more metals. Nevertheless, when you explore, go deep and research in a detailed way the medals’ origin we probably get a different conclusion. A sport superpower should be claimed and prize awarded with that via the domain in the highest number of sports, not particularly the number of medals. Why? This has an easy answer. The three pivotal sports, swimming, athletics and gymnastics, award a much superior number of medals in comparison to other Olympic sports, which misrepresent, misleads the final outcome, when you look at it globally, only by the numbers. So, let’s divide this into 28 sports, considering the current Olympic federations, see the medal table and square it equally, then let’s watch the Olympic diplomas per sport federation to truly get the sports superpower. This is still not a completely just definition, we should add the investment of each country in sports and in the Olympic projects, the number of athletes each Olympic committee sent to Rio 2016, to get an even more accurate figure, however this analysis will surely give a better perception of the true sports superpower Olympic committees. The sum will be done in the usual terms for the classifications, 8-1 points for 1st to 8th places in the diplomas’ table, 5-3-1 for the medals table.
