When the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) opens at the Jacob Javits Convention Center on April 14, it will be part of history. In 1900, the NYIAS became North America’s first automotive exhibition. For more than 100 years, through depression, war, boom-time, oil crisis, recession and growth, it has continued its pioneering tradition of bringing new and innovative ideas to a national and world stage. In the last decade, the auto show has boosted the number of new vehicle announcements, broken attendance figures and increased media attention. Combined with the city’s energy and the fact that metro New York is one of the nation’s largest markets for new car and truck sales, the show is now one of the most important
automotive events in the world. In addition to its place as one of the world’s greatest public shows, NYIAS has expanded its range of worldclass trade and industry events. Today, nearly 100 individual events, conferences, industry forums, symposiums, award ceremonies, roundtables and parties take place during the show’s press preview week—in addition to the more than two dozen press conferences hosted by the automakers. No other event brings the business, consumer and lifestyle press, Wall Street’s financial community, the marketing and advertisers of Madison Avenue and the nation’s largest and most diverse metropolitan population together in such a unique way. The show offers virtually every make and model vehicle sold in the U.S. under one roof, giving
consumers the unique opportunity to see everything the auto industry has to offer: from fuel-sipping economy cars to million-dollar supercars. This year’s special exhibits include: Camp Jeep, GT Spec, LI Dip and Customs, Premier Restorations, Safe Harbor West, Underground Motorsports and West Point Band. Check out the motorcycle features from Orange County Choppers, Chaos Cycle, GG Taurus USA, Harley-Davidson and Indian Larry of Brooklyn. The 2017 show runs from Friday, April 14, through Sunday, April 23. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (including Easter Sunday) at the Jacob Javits Convention Center on 11th Avenue (between 34th and 40th streets). General admission is $17 for adults

New Honda Models Will Make Their Debut In New York
The all-new Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Honda Clarity Electric will make their worldwide debut at the 2017 New York International Auto Show. The two all-new, electrified Honda vehicles will make Clarity the first vehicle series to offer customers an expanded array of electrified vehicle choices with fuel cell, battery electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains wrapped in a sporty, spacious and comprehensively equipped five-passenger midsize sedan. The Clarity series is part of Honda’s commitment to address society’s energy and environmental concerns as the company expects significant growth in sales
of electrified vehicles. Honda has announced its intention to make twothirds of its global auto sales from electrified vehicles by 2030. The official teaser sketch of the Clarity series released today includes the never-before-seen Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Clarity Electric flanking the currently available Clarity Fuel Cell. As the next progression of Honda’s dynamic styling for electrified products, each Clarity variant has a low, wide aerodynamic body with unique design elements.
Combined with elegant and advanced exterior styling, the Clarity series boasts spacious interiors outfitted with premium, environmentally-responsible materials. Offering Honda “fun-to-drive” DNA, each Clarity variant provides a smooth, quiet and premium experience, with great dynamic handling plus seamless electric drive torque and acceleration. The Clarity series also features advanced technologies, including

Kurt Busch used a last-lap pass to win the 59th annual Daytona 500 on Feb. 26 in a raucous, rough-and-tumble season-opening race for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Busch (No. 41 Haas Automation/Monster Energy Ford), a three-time Daytona 500 runner-up and the 2004 series champion, made a high-line move coming off the Daytona International Speedway backstretch to pass Kyle Larson (No. 42 Target Chevrolet), as Larson was running out of fuel. Tinted Windows Banned In The State Effective Jan. 1, examination of tinted or shaded windows will be required during motor vehicle inspections. The New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark. •The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30 percent of the light. Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window. •This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both
sides. The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle. •Rear side windows must also allow at least 70 percent of light from the outside to pass through the window if the vehicle is classified as a: station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or a convertible. A vehicle falls into one of these categories if it is labeled “Passenger Car” on the Federal ID label found on the left front door panel. It is illegal to sell, offer for sale, or install glass that does not comply with this law. It is illegal to operate a vehicle with glass that does not comply with this law. NYS Health Department regulations specify that medical conditions may be used to justify an exemption from the limits on light transmittance. Medical conditions that qualify for exemption include: porphyria, xeroderma pigmentosa or severe drug photo-sensitivity. If you have one of the medical conditions that require you to have tinted vehicle windows, you may request an exemption from the law using the DMV’s application for tinted window exemption (MV-80W).
Transportation And Mobility Conference The inaugural Empire State of Mobility Conference will take place at the Jacob Javits Center on Wednesday, April 12, in advance of the 10-day The New York International Auto Show. Technology is revolutionizing urban, personal mobility through innovations such as ubiquitous sensor technology on the ground, vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle communication, pedestrian and cyclist detection and avoidance systems and self-driving electric shuttles among others. As the most densely populated U.S. city and the home of the world’s financial industry, New York is the natural location for a conference focused on how private/public partnerships will fund the major infrastructure improvements necessary to create connected mobility. “The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $50 million to Columbus, OH as part of its Smart City Challenge, but another $90 million came from a local business
coalition as well as a sizable portfolio of hardware, software and support services from technology companies,” said Mark Schienberg, president, Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association. “Keeping that momentum of

Toyota Injects Style And Technology Into 860 Special Edition The 2017 Toyota 86 will turn more heads than ever with the new 860 Special Edition that adds stand-out styling, premium features and performance technology. “The 86 is recognized by enthusiasts for its impressive driving performance and its value-oriented price tag,” said John Myers, Toyota national manager vehicle marketing and communications. “The 860 Special Edition will amplify these core elements with an added dose of premium styling mixed with performance technology.” On the outside, the 860 Special Edition will command attention with its exclusive Supernova Orange paint that is contrasted by its black body stripes, rear spoiler, heated outside mirrors and 17-inch alloy wheels. Topping it off, the special edition gets LED fog lights and a unique aerodynamic underbody panel for added style and function. The special edition will also be available in Halo White, and only 860 units of each color will be made. The interior features the perfect combination of luxury and performance with heated front seats in black leather with orange stitching. The same contrasting black and orange theme continues to the leather-trimmed steering wheel, shift boot and parking brake lever. Each 860 Special Edition features a unique center console placard that signifies its exclusivity. Additional premium features include Smart key
with push-button start and touch-activated door unlock, as well as dual-zone automatic climate control. The 86 is all about driving performance, and the 860 comes with new performance technology that driving enthusiasts will appreciate. Each special edition will come with a 4.2-inch multi-information display that features a G-force meter and stop watch, and displays vital information such as horsepower and torque curves, engine coolant and oil temperatures and MPG. The 2017 860 Special Edition will be available in
