Oyster Bay-East Norwich students in grades three through six at James H. Vernon School recently heard from New York Times bestselling author Susan Verde. Verde, a former elementary school teacher, conducted three presentations throughout the school day for the different grade levels. She shared her personal background, her journey from a kindergarten teacher to full-time author and her process as a writer.

In addition, the students learned about Verde’s role as a yoga instructor for kids where she teaches them to be more mindful. During the presentations, she led the students through two breathing exercises and some yoga poses, leaving them feeling inspired and motivated to pursue their passions. Many students expressed their love for reading and writing and even aspired to become authors themselves.
From her “I Am” series to her feel-good fairytales, Verde’s books serve as valuable tools for students who may be struggling with anxiety or who are uncertain about how to express their emotions. Her works encourage readers to embrace their unique qualities and forge their own paths in life.
