grade class practices a story with Bartell and Mrs. Davidson for about a month and then performs the story for their families. Wagenhauser’s class had previously performed Daniel Kirk’s books Library Mouse: A Friend’s Tale and Library Mouse: A World to Explore for fellow second graders, family and friends. They were excited to also share these stories with the older adults from the Life Enrichment Center. Each student wore a white T-shirt with an image of their favorite book and a handmade hat for the occasion. They each took turns re-enacting and reading lines from the two books. After the show, the students joined the older adults at the library tables for an art project. Since the main character of their two books, Sam, liked to write, the students and older adults each received a notebook. Together, they created a cherry blossom tree cover using colored tissue paper and colored pencils. The students had prepared for the art project with their art teacher Meredith Brustman and had a great time helping their special guests.

Following the craft, the second-graders and older adults enjoyed some snacks together and played a friendly game of Bingo. All winners received a prize. The partnership was a wonderful way to connect the students with community members.
