Tickets to the very popular Afternoon Tea & Garden Tours are currently on sale to Old Westbury Gardens Members until April 1, at which point the public sale will begin, space permitting. This event is a full English tea held in elegant Orchard Hill, the former home of Peggie Phipps, the only daughter and one of the four children of Jay and Margarita Phipps, the original owners of Old Westbury Gardens. The tea is followed by a docent-led tour of the formal gardens. This event is currently scheduled for May 17, June 14, June 21, Sept. 3 and Sept. 20.

April also sees the return of family-friendly events like the educator-led Storybook Stroll. This event, geared to children ages 3 to 5, is scheduled for the first Saturday of every month. The kick-off story on April 1 is “Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt” by Kate Messner. Children will stroll the gardens, hear the tale and then make a unique, take-home craft. The Spring Dog Festival weekend (April 15-16), will feature vendors, and visitors are encouraged to bring their leashed dogs to enjoy a stroll of the grounds. Both events are free with admission.

“This season promises to be filled with interesting, entertaining and culturally-rich programs that will inspire visitors of all ages,” said Paul Hunchak, Director of Public Programs and Visitor Services for Old Westbury Gardens. “We have a jam-packed April filled with events focusing on children, nature and music, and events coming up in later months that will focus on gardening, history and fun leisure activities.
