On Trend: Italian Aperitivo

A

s summer heats up, so does the Italian aperitivo trend with traditional and unconventional twists on cocktails such as the spritz. With gatherings slowly making a safe comeback, there’s no better time to raise a glass—in person or virtually—than at the start of summer.

Packaged in heavy apothecary-style bottles, Hotel Starlino Liqueurs’ Rosé Aperitivo and Rosso Vermouth celebrate Italy’s incredible turn of the 20th century design and architecture, Stile Liberty. And don’t forget to add the perfect complement to your cocktails with artisanal, all natural Maraschino Cherries that offer a delightfully sweet and savory flavor.

ROSÉ APERITIVO (MSRP $25)

Smooth refreshing drink with a strong nose of grapefruit and citrus peel and a delicious, long complex flavor. Perfect with ice and soda or tonic, served long and garnished with a citrus peel for an elegant, yet simple cocktail.

................... ROSSO VERMOUTH (MSRP $25)

Classic Indicazione Geografica Protetta (IGP) certified Vermouth di Torino—made from a blend of Italian white wine, Sicilian Ansonica and Cataratto wines, and Marsala

wine as well as traditional Italian herbs and spices and then later aged in bourbon barrels for six months to give it a long rich finish. Delicious on the rocks, in a Negroni or Manhattan cocktail. The IGP label shows that the quality or reputation of your food or condiment is linked to the place or region where it is produced, processed, or prepared. Both liqueurs are available for purchase on the Hotel Starlino website and are currently available in NY, NJ, CA, IL, CO, RI, CA. Hotel Starlino Maraschino Cherries (MSRP $14.99, 14.1oz.) are made near Naples, Italy using natural ingredients, the cherries are matured for two weeks in their natural, sweet and savory Marasca juice and then rested for another two weeks to produce a rich and juicy cherry. Available for purchase on Amazon.

The Black Crowes Take Flight Again BY DAVE GIL DE RUBIO

W

hen Chris and Rich Robinson made the November 2019 announcement that the Black Crowes were reuniting, it represented a reconciliation between the siblings after the band was blown up in 2015. The plan was to launch a lengthy reunion tour in 2020 commemorating the 30th anniversary of the group’s 1990 debut album Shake Your Money Maker. Then COVID-19 struck and the touring industry, along with the rest of the world, ground to a halt. For guitarist Rich Robinson, this unexpected respite turned out to be a mixed blessing, allowing him to get some perspective, while quarantining at home with his family in Nashville.

fences. For the younger Robinson, it was even more apparent given the direction Magpie Salute was headed. “The financial and a lot of the creative burdens [in Magpie Salute] were on my shoulders and it was reaching a point where it was untenable,” he admitted. “I don’t feel like we were growing as fast as we would have liked. It was a much longer road for us and I don’t know if everyone was ready to take the sacrifice and really give it five or 10 years to get to a certain level. So alongside that, I’d written a bunch of songs and one of my main things is that I always wrote for Chris. It had been seven years since I’d talked to him and I just kind of missed my writing partner. We brought these two [perspectives] to the table when we wrote these songs together.
