Lady On A Hill Jill Hennessy returns to Boston for new Showtime series
BY DAVE GIL DE RUBIO DGILDERUBIO@ANTONMEDIAGROUP.COM

rime procedurals are a big part of Jill Hennessy’s body of work. Homicide: Life On the Street, Law & Order and Crossing Jordan, of which Hennessy played the lead character, are some of the notable projects that stand out on her résumé. But with City On a Hill (COAH), the Edmonton native feels she’s playing one of the best roles of her career. The 10-episode Showtime series that stars Kevin Bacon and Screen Actors Guild Award-winner Aldis Hodge (Underground) in the leads, takes a fictional look at the local corruption and racism that was rife in Boston during the early 1990s. The Beantown credentials for this project run deep from the top down as creator and executive producer
Chuck MacLean hails from Boston, as do fellow executive producers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The depth of writing is further enhanced by the involvement of executive producers Tom Fontana (St. Elsewhere; Oz) and Jennifer Todd (Memento; Alice in Wonderland). Throw in a solid stable of character actors that include Jonathan Tucker (Westworld; Justified), Mark O’Brien (Hannibal; Halt & Catch Fire), Amanda Clayton (NCIS: Los Angeles; The Mentalist) and Kevin Chapman (Blue Bloods; Sons of Anarchy), and Hennessy knew that she wanted very much to be involved with COAH. “I’d worked with [executive producer/director] Michael Cuesta on a movie called Roadie, with Ron Eldard and Bobby Cannavale. I’d heard through the grapevine that Cuesta was at it again with Showtime and a
project that Kevin Bacon was involved in. One of my agents mentioned that, so we started investigating from that end. I remember my husband ran into Cuesta on the street because we live in the same neighborhood too. I was pushing from my end—begging—to work with Kevin Bacon,” Hennessy explained. “You sort of have to turn off that fan instinct and deal with him as a beautiful human being, which is exactly what it is. I was ready to throw my hat in the ring in any way humanly possible and thank God, they went with it and decided to give me a shot.” Bacon’s character, Jackie Rohr, is a decorated and deeply corrupt FBI agent who winds up throwing his lot in with Hodge’s Decourcy Ward, an idealistic assistant district attorney from Brooklyn. The duo’s unlikely alliance forms during an investigation
of a family of armored car robbers from nearby Charlestown. The subsequent investigation starts to unravel Boston’s disreputable criminal justice system. Hennessy plays Rohr’s beleaguered wife Jenny, who grapples with her husband’s infidelity while living under the same roof with her mother and daughter. The mix of vulnerability and pain Hennessy infuses into her character is in line with the complexity the writers infuse into all of COAH’s roles. “It’s some of the best writing I’ve seen. Chuck MacLean is a voice that I’ve never heard on TV and I think people are going to be blown away by him. But again, it’s a new entity that I’ve never really seen except inside of my little, demented imagination,” Hennessy said. “You’re pushing

JILL HENNESSY from page 3A boundaries that you didn’t know you had and thinking that you have to walk on a tightrope in a scene or that you’ve got to completely let go of any control. To do this scene, I have to have absolutely no sense of self—what I look like or how I sound. Or what I consider to be offensive dialogue—a racial epithet. You’ve got to let go of all these things and throw this crap against the wall and be forced to look at it, which is what I think great film making is. You’re telling a story and you’re not supposed to judge it. The toughest part of this is what I love most about it—Chuck and all the writers here aren’t afraid of revealing the ugly sides of life and human behavior. As an actor, to play that is terrifying and it’s absolutely thrilling.” Boston looms large as a character in COAH and while parts of Yonkers and Staten Island stand in for scenes set in the early ‘90s of this Massachusetts metropolis, it’s all deja vu for Hennessy, who has strong ties to the city dating back to her Crossing Jordan days, given that show was set there. “I’m actually so flattered and honored to get drawn back to Boston,
From left: Jill Hennessy’s Jenny Rohr share a meal with fictional daughter Benedetta Rohr (Zoe Colletti) and Rosa Congemi (Catherine Wolf). because while I was born and raised in Canada, for me, Boston is such an iconic city. I’ve had so many friends from here. I dated a guy from Boston and ended up coming here to different suburbs of Boston. I’ve got family and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law from here. So I’ve been coming back and forth,” she explained. “I’m just so psyched that I have any sort of association with Boston via Crossing Jordan and other things. I love it. about what America is. Oh my God. Paul Revere was over here. And here’s the State Building and Boston Harbor and the Great Molasses Spill. I love that stuff.” While Hennessy and her family call Manhattan home, the Canadian province of Alberta was where she was born, alongside identical twin Jacqueline and younger brother John Paul “J.P.” Hennessy. When her parents’ marriage was breaking apart when she was a teen, Hennessy developed an interest in the Holocaust as a distraction from what was going on with her family. Having read Sophie’s Choice, a home video screening of the film adaptation led Hennessy down the road to acting. “My pursuit of knowledge and research of the Holocaust had led me to Sophie’s Choice and Meryl Streep’s award-winning performance. It’s one of my favorite films of all time in terms of performance, direction and
cinematography,” Hennessy recalled. “So I’m watching Sophie’s Choice twice during summer vacation, backto-back, while nobody was home and thinking that was what I wanted to do—tell the truth. She played one of the most brutalized characters that I could think of and here’s this actress who looks so joyous, vulnerable and powerful, while painting every color of the rainbow and I’m thinking that I wish I could do that. She’s telling an incredibly important story—she’s telling a person’s truth. From then on, it sort of resonated that this was what I really wanted to do.” A teacher in her school heard Hennessy read in class and recommended she attend an acting festival in Stratford, Ontario. Hennessy dropped out her junior year to pursue her dream, try and find a good acting school and wound up also busking on the streets of Toronto. She started landing roles and developed a side career as a musician (she’s currently wrapping up her third album). Given the impressive string of television series Hennessy has worked on, she has high hopes for COAH. “I feel like I’m doing the best work I’ve ever done on this show. I’m so happy that I can even say that,” she said. “During the summer, we’re really sitting on our hands, waiting to hear about a possible pickup for City On a Hill. My mouth to God’s ears. I’m really knocking my head right now—knock on wood. I’d really love for this to run many, many years.” City On a Hill airs on Showtime. Check local listings for times. Ernest Hemingway: Champion of The American Sentence The literary great’s 120th birthday is next month
BY JOE SCOTCHIE JSCOTCHIE@ANTONMEDIAGROUP.COM
E
rnest Hemingway was the emperor of the American prose narrative. With his short, declarative sentences and a view of life both heroic and tragic, Hemingway has inspired more writers and gained more imitators than any other American novelist. By the late 19th century, the English language was getting bloated. The Romantic era had run its course. T.S. Eliot turned to the French symbolists for inspiration in both verse and new methods of expression. Hemingway, for his part, was influenced by the great Russians, Tolstoy and Turgenev. Eliot was well-educated and multi-lingual. Hemingway could never stand four years on a college campus (it would drive him crazy), but he was no less scholarly. For both, reading bouts led to writing bouts.

He found his voice while living in Paris with his young bride. A decorated World War I veteran, Hemingway was bored with the frivolity of American life. In Paris, Hemingway ran with a fast crowd of expats who spent much time talking about art and

life, but often little time at the writing table. The place for the in crowd was the Montparnasse, a café on the West Bank. It was great fun, but Hemingway was full of stories. He had to take the next step and pour them out on paper. He got down to work on The Sun Also Rises. As important, he had started publishing short stories in those little magazines, periodicals with small circulations, but farm systems, so to speak, for budding writers. Top editors at top firms all read such publications as The Dial, Poetry and The Little Review, constantly on the lookout for up and coming talent. Hemingway caught a break in the person and character of F. Scott Fitzgerald. The latter’s moment came in 1920 when his manuscript, This Side of Paradise, was under discussion among editors at Scribner’s. The older editors were against publication. Maxwell Perkins, however, laid down a marker: If Scribner’s wanted to take its fiction list into the new century, it would have to start with novels like the one the young Fitzgerald had submitted. The talented young man from St. Paul would get published and in time, establish himself as the voice of the Jazz Age. With The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms, Hemingway captured the anxieties of the 1920s. His image was that of a swashbuckler, a hunter, a fisherman, a daring soldier. That was true, but Hemingway was a disciplined man. For many an American boy, World War I was a chance for adventure, a way to escape the home front and find war glory in Europe. Hemingway’s wartime heroics were no myth. An ambulance driver, he became a hero to Italians for saving lives during combat. Back home in Illinois, he pined for Europe and its unfolding tragedy. Short stories, novels, non-fiction
tumbled from his pen: To Have And Have Not, Death In The Afternoon, Green Hills of Africa and the stories: “The Killers,” “A Way You’ll Never Be,” The Gambler, The Nun and The Radio,” “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place.” Hemingway was very much a man of 1914, joining Eliot, Pound, James Joyce and Wyndham Lewis. In 1940, Hemingway published his novel of the Spanish Civil War, For Whom the Bell Tolls. Perkins loved the novel (as did the public), but the legendary editor told friends that this was it for Hemingway. The man, Perkins was positive, had just published his last great novel. In 1951, Hemingway published a shorter novel, Across the River and Into the Trees, which received poor reviews. He rebounded two years later with The Old Man and The Sea, a novella set in the Caribbean. Hemingway’s heroes often died at the end of their adventures. However, Mary Walsh, Hemingway’s fourth wife, begged him not to kill off Santiago, the novella’s hero. Mary prevailed and the book was a sensation. Publication brought a Pulitzer Prize and the 1953 Nobel Prize. Hemingway was back on top. Throughout the 1950s, Hemingway continued writing, but he did not publish. When Fidel Castro took power in 1960, Hemingway was advised by State Department officials to get out and in a hurry, so he relocated to Idaho. It wasn’t enough. Hemingway’s death was first reported as a gun-cleaning accident. The truth came out a few days later. Suicide wasn’t the end of Hemingway, the published writer. After the shock wore off, poor Mary Hemingway, trudging up Fifth Avenue on the way to Scribner’s, manuscripts in a shopping bag. The mortal man was gone, but in the years ahead, his readers would stay plenty busy.

Liberty For All
New museum takes a look at the nation’s favorite lady BY JENNIFER FAUCI JFAUCI@ANTONMEDIAGROUP.COM
I
remember my first visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I was in fifth grade and it was one of those rite of passage field trips to New York City. Others included the Bronx Zoo, Museum of Natural History and Broadway shows. It has been years since I took the ferry over from the concrete jungle, but now I, and many other visitors have reason to return. On May 16, The Statue of Liberty Museum welcomed droves of people to Liberty Island’s newest addition, a project that, according to Stephen Briganti, president/CEO of the Statue of
Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, is very much needed. “It has been quite the project,” said Briganti, who oversaw the entire development from start to finish. “For the last five years, we raised all the money--no government sources—hired out contracting and construction and created new attractions for people to see.” A favorite activity and major draw to Ellis Island is the family history center, which has the records of immigrant arrivals through the port of New York from 1819 to 1957. Now, there is a 26,000-square-foot museum to explore. The space features an immersive theater with three gallery spaces,
which detail Lady Liberty’s—sculpted by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi—conception to her place in today’s society. Visitors can also view never before seen photos of the statue

Maintaining Your Motivation
any of us feel we need to be in better shape. Many of us say we want to lose weight. It’s interesting to note that, while in January when setting your New Year’s resolutions like everyone else, you may have had to wait to use your favorite elliptical machine or dumb bells at the gym. But now, as summer is here, you are likely able to start your workout right away. Why is that? It’s hard to maintain motivation. Assuming you have the motivation now, and your exercise clothes and sneakers are on, then what we need to do next is identify the factors that want to rob us of that motivation and overcome them. Two of the most frequently identified culprits that despoil our motivation are impatience and inaction. Why is it so difficult to stay engaged once the initial excitement of starting something new has worn off? It might be because we
PSYCHE CENTRAL Jeremy Skow
are impatient to see results and we don’t feel we are seeing them fast enough. If we are driven by impatience, though, we won’t take the time required to accomplish anything worthwhile and burnout is inevitable. Impatience has a way of making you think you’ll never make it. Anybody who has achieved great things needed patience and the fortitude to endure. Michael Jordan is quoted as saying,
”I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games, 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.” Maintain your motivation by setting defined, shortterm, achievable goals. You are more likely to get frustrated and give up if your goals are long-term and very ambitious because the rigorousness of that game plan is very difficult to maintain and the gratification of achieving it takes longer to realize. A plan to lose 50 pounds by changing a sedentary, couch-potato lifestyle to a routine that involves going to the gym six days a week would be less likely to succeed than multiple goals of a two-pound weight loss and two workouts per week. Define achievable incremental targets and make no excuses about achieving those objectives. According to the Mayo
Clinic, we are more likely to maintain the motivation to exercise by choosing activities we find fun. Choose something rewarding enough to make you feel good about doing it. Join a tennis or basketball league. Participate in a dance class. Consider martial arts. Whether you enjoy a sport, spin, dance, kickboxing or aerobics, you can make friends with the regular attendees. You can get your social fix and exercise at the same time. They may liven your mood and they may hold you accountable by asking you why you didn’t show up the last time. Now that the weather is much more bearable than say, the chilly winter or rainfilled spring, get outside and start going for a walk in your neighborhood. Anything is better than nothing and remember, exercise does not have to be tedious. You will be more likely to stick your workout regimen if you are having fun while doing so.
Have you ever noticed what happens to your motivation after a period of inaction? Take an action, no matter how small, and it will build momentum. Continue to act and you will soon find yourself in the habit of taking action. Every day of inaction can create resistance to acting. Do something to promote your beach body every day, from eating healthy and getting exercise to taking some mindful meditative moments to yourself and doing something just for you for you. What you choose does not always have to involve a major commitment but you can keep the motivation alive by doing just enough to keep the chain intact. New York Senate Passes Domestic Animal Welfare Package The New York State Senate recently passed legislation to protect the rights and improve the health and safety of domestic animals across New York State. The bills advanced by the Senate Majority include legislation that will raise awareness of safety standards for domestic animals, increase the punishment for cruelty against animals, prohibit the declawing of cats, require the installation and testing of fire protection systems in pet stores, establish veterinary requirements for pet dealers and allow reporting of suspicious animal cruelty. “Companion animals and pets provide us with love and affection, and for millions of New Yorkers they are members of the family,” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said. “Protecting these animals from abuse, mistreatment and unsafe conditions
is the right thing to do. The bills passed by the Senate Democratic Majority will help raise awareness.” The legislation being advanced by the Senate Majority to protect domestic animals includes: • Banning the Declawing of Cats: This bill, S.5532B, sponsored by Deputy Leader Senator Michael Gianaris, prohibits declawing procedures on cats. • Alert System for Pet Owners: This bill, S.4577, sponsored by Chair of Committee on Domestic Animal Welfare, Senator Monica Martinez, creates an alert system for pet owners requiring them to bring their companion animals inside during extreme weather. • Consecutive Sentencing for Multiple Accounts of Aggravated Cruelty Against Animals: This bill, S.5807, sponsored by Chair of Committee on Domestic Animal Welfare, Senator Monica
Martinez, removes the two-year limit to a term of imprisonment to allow consecutive sentencing when a person is convicted of multiple counts of aggravated cruelty towards animals. • Report of Suspicious Animal Cruelty: This bill, S.3415A, sponsored by Chair of Committee on Domestic Animal Welfare, Senator Monica Martinez, allows mandated reporters of child abuse to also report suspected animal abuse. • Care Standards for Pet Dealers: This bill, S.3828, sponsored by Senator Jen Metzger, provides grooming, sanitation and veterinary requirements for pet dealers. • Appropriate Shelter for Dogs: This bill, S.3559, sponsored by Senator Tim Kennedy, increases penalties for failing to require appropriate shelter for dogs left
outdoors. Chair of Committee on Domestic Animal Welfare and Bill Sponsor Senator Monica Martinez said, “I am committed to elevating and uplifting the rights and protections of those who cannot advocate for themselves by implementing policies that ensure the safety of animals across New York State. By enacting a comprehensive package of animal welfare legislation, we are not only protecting animals, but also fostering a healthier community for all of us.” “Our pets are members of our families,” said Senator John Brooks. “They provide us with love, security, and companionship and it is only fitting that we provide them with the legal protections they deserve.” —Anton Media Group

Aida: Epic Love Story
inner of four Tony Awards, Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida is an epic tale of love, loyalty and betrayal, chronicling the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love. With an unforgettable score featuring soaring ballads and rousing choral numbers by Elton John and Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), Aida is a modern crowd-pleaser—an epic tale of loyalty, pride, betrayal and love that transcends all. Kayla Cyphers plays Aida, a princess who was captured and made a slave. “I am trying to keep that secret from everyone,” Cyphers said. “I definitely wrestle with getting back on that pedestal of being a princess and fighting for my people.” Cyphers explains that Aida doesn’t view herself as a savior of her people. “Immediately they look at me as if I

Jenna Rubali plays Anmeris and loves the way the role is written. “She goes through this entire journey of finding her true self and her true power,” Rubali said. “As an actor, being able to play a woman like this on stage is
empowering and powerful to watch.” Ken Allen Neely plays Radames, the man caught between the two lead women. “He is captain of the Egyptian army, he is engaged to the princess of Egypt and he is getting ready to take the throne and settle down,” Neely said.
“Being the adventurer that he is, he is sort of reluctant to do that.” Neely also enjoys the modern poprock score. “It is really smart the way they juxtapose modern music with ancient times,” he said. See a video with featured interviews with the cast at www.longisland weekly.com. Aida plays through June 30 at the John W. Engeman Theater, 250 Main St., Northport. Friendship Circle Luncheon A Success
S
The Sid Jacobson JCC’s event raises funds to benefit adult day programs
id Jacobson JCC’s annual Friendship Circle Luncheon raised more than $267,000 for the organization’s adult day programs. This year’s sold-out luncheon was attended by hundreds at Old Westbury Golf & Country Club to recognize honoree Barbara Cooper and featured entertainment from celebrated New York stage actor and stand-up comedian Mario Cantone as well as Master of Ceremonies, Bernadette Castro. The event kicked off with a cocktail reception and the chance to bid on raffle prizes. Attendees then enjoyed lunch and learned more about the JCC’s adult day program through a video presentation highlighting program participants with Young Onset Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Castro then took the stage before the afternoon concluded with entertainment from the hilarious Mario Cantone, leaving attendees with smiles from ear to ear. Now in its 16th year, the annual luncheon
raises funds to provide financial sustainability for the adult day programs at Sid Jacobson JCC that improve the lives of those afflicted with dementia and other chronic conditions at any age or stage as well as providing support and education for their families. Cooper, the luncheon honoree, is a Friendship Circle Luncheon executive committee member. As a longtime, active member of the JCC, she also serves on the Board of Directors and the Cultural Arts Committee. Cooper is also a passionate member of UJA Federation of New York and is active on the Long Island Birthright Council. NYU Winthrop Trains LaGuardia Staff In Stop The Bleed
T
rauma staff from NYU Winthrop Hospital, an ACS Level 1 Trauma Center, provided Stop the Bleed training to employees from LaGuardia Airport (LGA), educating them on techniques to stop life-threatening bleeding that can occur due to a range of trauma circumstances. NYU Winthrop has trained more than 1,000 Long Islanders in Stop the Bleed, including first responders, security officers, school faculties, and more, but this is the first training dedicated to airport employees. The training was conducted at Hangar 7, which was the former Seaplane Maintenance Hangar and was open to all workers at LGA. Stop the Bleed is a national program supported by the American College of Surgeons and Homeland Security and encourages everyday citizens to become empowered to assist in bleeding emergencies until professional medical help arrives. “Stop the Bleed training should be offered to employees at every transportation hub in the U.S.,” said D’Andrea Joseph, Chief of NYU Winthrop’s Division of Trauma and Critical Care. “This is truly critical knowledge, since uncontrolled bleeding caused by traumatic
injuries can lead to death within five minutes. Stop the Bleed training can empower workers to help keep our transportation centers well-prepared to assist in emergencies.” Joseph said she hopes this will be part of a wave of airport, railroad and bus depot trainings, with Stop the Bleed training becoming routine safety protocol just as CPR has been for decades. After a traumatic injury, hemorrhaging is responsible for more than 35 percent of pre-hospital deaths, and most bystanders lack knowledge in how to respond. The Stop the Bleed program teaches tactics to recognize life-threatening bleeding and provide immediate response to control that bleeding including by direct pressure, the use of tourniquets, or packing (filling) a wound with gauze or clean cloth. The Stop the Bleed campaign also advocates for the placement of easily accessible bleeding control kits in public places. Organizations interested in more information on NYU Winthrop’s Stop the Bleed program can contact stopthebleed@nyulangone.org or call 516-663-1571.

assau County Executive Laura Curran recently signed into law a ban on the sale and distribution of polystyrene foam containers (better known by the brand name Styrofoam) in Nassau County. Curran, joined by local officials and environmental advocates, signed the legislation into law at Jeremy’s Ale House, a staple on the Nautical Mile famous for their use of Styrofoam cups. Last month, the Nassau County Legislature voted unanimously to adopt the legislation co-sponsored by Legislators Debra Mulé, Denise Ford and Laura Schaefer. “Today, Nassau County is taking a big step towards the future,” said Curran. “Non-biodegradable polystyrene can’t be recycled like most products. So, while that coffee may be finished, the Styrofoam cup that was holding it won’t be. It will break down into small pieces—clogging our waterways, polluting our environment, hurting our wildlife, and even damaging local industries like fishing and tourism. We only have one Long Island—we must protect it.” “Toxic, non-biodegradable Styrofoam devastates the waterways we cherish,” said Mulé. “I am hopeful that today’s action reflects a major step forward in our efforts to encourage Nassau County residents to move beyond wasteful single-use products and embrace sustainable alternatives.” Polystyrene foam—better known by its brand name Styrofoam—has been classified as a carcinogen, and in most cases is completely non-biodegradable. After breaking into small pieces, it becomes harder to clean up and its composition of fossil fuels and synthetic chemicals helps trigger serious hazardous waste and environmental damage, including killing marine life that consumes it. On Long Island, it has been known to clog waterways and dramatically
increase the cost of waste disposal for authorities. There is no practical method for recycling polystyrene foam, and incineration results in toxic fumes being released into the environment. Businesses in Nassau will have until Jan. 1, 2020 to use up their existing reserve of polystyrene foam containers before the ban takes place. After that date, any business violating the law will be given fines from the Office of Consumer Affairs. The fines for first offense are up to $500, second offenses up to $1,000, and third and subsequent offenses up to $2,500. The money from those funds will provide for environmental investigation and cleanup of Nassau County properties. “I was proud to join my colleagues in voting unanimously to approve legislation I co-sponsored banning polystyrene products in Nassau County, and am excited to see it signed into law,” said Ford. “This will not only reduce the waste stream in Nassau County and provide reductions in waste disposal costs, it will also help unclog our waterways and better protect our natural environment.” “We’ve heard about the dangers of polystyrene foam for years now, and I am happy we are finally taking action,” added Legislator Laura Schaefer. “These containers pollute our environment and clog our waterways. Enough is enough.” Adrienne Esposito, Executive Director of Citizens Campaign for the Environment noted that Styrofoam is littering the communities, beaches, and bays that we call home. “Kudos to Nassau County for stepping up to tackle this pollution and public health concern by banning Styrofoam take-out containers, cups and plates,” she said. “Making the switch to more sustainable options is good for our environment and our health.” —Submitted by Nassau County

Ask your local nursery and review the options, as pulling by hand is often not successful given the long root. So where did the dandelion originate? In the 1600s, the dandelion was introduced to North America and Canada by French settlers. In the 1500s, Spanish monks helped spread the dandelion to the east and west coasts and rapidly, the seeds seeded in between. In the early 19th century and even earlier, people foraged for fresh dandelion leaves. After a long winter, edible
green leaves were eagerly eaten where winters were harsh and vegetables unavailable. Its leaves provide important vitamins like vitamin C and A, iron and calcium. All parts of the plant are used. Dandelion flower wine was once popular along with a tea made from the leaves and root. Nowadays, dandelion supplements composed of the leaves and root, a diuretic, are found in health food stores and are said to cleanse kidneys and the liver. If you’re in love with these yellow flowers, you’re not alone. Its flower produces nectar for birds, butterflies and honey bees, all of which help to pollinate the flowers. Throughout history, this plant has proven very useful. Whether consumed or simply admired for its shaggy mane and delightful seed clouds, the dandelion is here to stay. You decide if this master of survival is really a weed.

Outdoor Oasis Create the backyard of your dreams with help from Hicks

n recent years, backyards and outdoor living areas have truly become an extension of a person’s home. The same as homeowners spend time decorating and relaxing in their main living quarters now holds true for their residence’s exterior as well. At Hicks Nurseries, industry professionals can help your vision of an outdoor oasis come true. But time, thought and careful planning go into creating such a sanctuary, lush with foliage, flora and fauna and a comfortable place to take a seat. Ken Muellers is a CNLP/board certified master arborist and has been in the industry for more than 30 years. “My job at Hicks is to design (mostly residential landscapes) including everything outside the four walls of the house, a hardscape/softscape if you will,” said Muellers, who has a degree in landscape architecture. “It’s great to work on projects that create beauty out in the world. I like taking people’s ideas and turning them into reality.” Muellers has found that many people have the desire to take mini staycations at home, but will incorporate some of the features they have seen on vacations, like water features, luxurious sitting areas, fire pits and tropical plants. Homeowners also want the same amenities outside that they have inside

their homes—a kitchen, TV, fireplace, pizza oven and decorative seating in an entertaining space. When it comes to the landscaping element, there are different challenges and opportunities for smaller areas versus larger ones. “For a small yard, people want to maximize the space and utilize every nook and cranny to make those areas multi-useful. I recommend using plants that will stay in scale—fastigiate plants, slow growing, dwarf varieties,” said Muellers, adding that it is wise to provide balance with “negative space” so the yard does not seem claustrophobic. “For larger yards, compartmentalize the space by dividing the yard into different outdoor rooms like a dining/kitchen/living/

to choose timeless materials that complement each other and the home. “As for trends, water features are popular, which you can achieve via a pond, swimming pool or the sound of water flowing in the garden. Just the same, fire elements like a fire pit or some sort of outdoor fireplace can make a space as well.” Now that you’ve landscaped your yard with greenery and flowers, it’s time to move in. To help, Hicks’ furniture and decorative buyer, Sue Murphy, puts her 20 years of experience at the forefront of beautifying this new entertainment space. “As our lives become more hectic, we want our homes, and that includes the backyard, to be a refuge from the stress,” said Murphy. “By moving our living space into the garden, we begin to reconnect with nature as well, a known stress-reducer.” Just as homeowners allot space for their gardens, so too must they choose how to fill up said space. If it comes down to creating a dining or seating area because of limited space, Murphy recommends selecting a dining set that has extra comfortable chairs so you don’t mind sitting at the table or using a loveseat instead of a sofa in your seating group. “Regardless, create an intimate space,” she said. “Keep your accessories simple; add accent pillows for color, an arrangement of candles in lanterns for lighting and a rug to define your space. You want to keep clutter to a minimum or the yard will start to close in on you.” Those who are fortunate to have more room to play with should create outdoor rooms and coordinate the furniture to reflect their personal style. “Now is the time to try something new and maybe a bit more fun than the way you decorate inside your home. Use those colors you might not want inside to express yourself outside, after all, your time in the yard is limited to six to seven months, so make the most of it,” said Murphy. “The industry is responding to the consumer’s desire to create a space that brings to mind a favorite vacation spot or resort.” Trends in outdoor furniture usually follow indoor furniture trends with an extra emphasis on durability due to elements of weather and wildlife. This also includes fabrics that are both fashion-forward and weather, wear and fade-resistant. Murphy has seen a shift away from the cast aluminum patio sets with the roll-arm wickers of our grandmother’s front porch to a sleeker, more modern look. With driving demand at an all-time high during the peak driving season months of May through August, there are a few preroad trip tips to keep in mind, especially for diesel vehicles, when gearing up for summer travel. Jaguar Land Rover Of Freeport Celebrates Milestone A Q A A BY JOSEPH WOLKIN
jwolkin@antonmediagroup.com
mere two years ago, Jaguar Freeport and Land Rover of Freeport did something unique. They became one. The new dealership, Jaguar Land Rover of Freeport, is now an industry leader. The dealership features a new conceptual design, which was created just for the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. The 35,000-square-foot shop is perfect for the high-end vehicles, with a 15-car showroom, a 22-bay service squad and three-lane service area. Since Jaguar Land Rover of Freeport opened, Dealer Principal Jack Weidinger has been thrilled with its success. No stranger to the industry, Weidinger remains as excited today about all the prospects that a dealership of this magnitude will continue to bring to the South Shore’s economy, just like he was when the idea was first conceptualized. Jaguar Land Rover of Freeport, located at 146 Sunrise Hwy. in Freeport, is one of Jaguar’s leading dealerships. Jaguar, one of the premier manufacturers in the world, was founded in 1922 by William Lyons. Lyons did not originally start his work under the Jaguar name, but as the Swallow Sidecar Company. Thirteen years after Swallow Sidecar Company’s founding, he created the SS Jaguar, leading the company to be renamed in 1945 as Jaguar Cars due to its success. Decades later, in 1990, Jaguar became part of Ford Motor Company in a major acquisition. Ford also acquired Land Rover from 2000 to 2008. Then, the two were sold to the India-based Tata Motors, creating a subsidiary known as Jaguar Land Rover Limited. It would mean that under Tata Motors, Jaguar Cars Limited would be its own company, and likewise for Land Rover. In 2013, parent company Tata Motors fully merged them to become Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC to combine operations, rather than two separate companies. We spoke with Tony Anton, general manager of Jaguar Land Rover of Freeport, to find out what has made this dealership so successful, what the future holds for it and much more.
What are some of the highlights that you’ve had with this dealership?
We started out as a Jaguar Land Rover dealership two years ago. We went from a 3,500-square-foot showroom to a 35,000-square-foot dealership. Jaguar was 100 percent of our business. Now, 75 percent of the business is Land Rover. For all dealers in this area, where leasing is a prevalent form of finance, 75 percent of the business is repeated lease business. They leased a car three years ago and they come back to get another one. We have none of that for Land Rover, so it’s pretty exciting to be growing and finding clients without that. A year ago, we were averaging about 75 new cars a month. Now, we’re over 100. Up until December of last year, we didn’t have
a pre-owned department. We were doing one or two pre-owned cars a month. Now, we’re averaging about 25 certified pre-owned Land Rovers and Jaguars a month. Our service department is staffed up with some spectacular technicians. When we sold our dealership for Jaguar in Great Neck, I picked up a sales manager, a service manager and a bunch of other key employees that have made the machine run at a much smoother pace. We’re getting things to run well here. At this point, everything is going really well. I would expect that in a year from now, when we start having the people we’ve leased to come back, we’ll be delivering 200 cars between pre-owned and new.
Q
What led this dealership to grow so rapidly the last two years?
The brand-new facility, which is the new Jaguar and Land Rover design, attracts a lot of attention. There had not been a Land Rover dealer on the south shore in more than a decade. People from here have been traveling a long distance to purchase and service their cars. The convenience is just fabulous. A lot of people on the south shore either had to go to the north shore, out east or even across the bridge to get to a dealer. Now, we’re here. We offer free pickup and delivery for people who purchase and service here. That makes it easier for a lot of people. 20 years ago, when we opened the first Jaguar dealership
on the south shore, it helped refresh the neighborhood. The whole area is really growing, and that helps everyone.
Q A
What can this dealership grow on?
Part of the challenge has been what to order and what to stock. We know the Jaguar brand very well. Jack Weidinger’s grandfather started the first Jaguar dealership in the United States in 1938. We really have a handle on that brand. We were so new to the Land Rover and Range Rover brand that it took a while to figure out what color combinations, equipment combinations, volume levels of which models we should have in stock. We wanted to have what people have on their shopping list. We figured that out. It’s doing

well. The manufacturer works on a turn-and-earn basis, so the more you sell, the more cars they give you to sell. It helps our upward trajectory.
Q A
Previously, we discussed the I-PACE and the many features that it provides. What other vehicles are popular?
The I-PACE is popular for Jaguar. The F-PACE is our mid-sized crossover and that is by far the most popular in the Jaguar brand. The E-PACE is a smaller version of that car that is starting to take hold now. On the Land Rover side, the Range Rover Sport and the full-sized Range Rover are actually our volume and most expensive cars. The Sport is popular. The full-sized seven-seater Discovery, which is the car that replaced our LR3 and LR4, is starting to gain popularity with those folks. The new Velar is absolutely gorgeous.

as well. Many forget that a spare tire also has a life expectancy and even if you don’t use it, the environment can affect it and it might need to be replaced. Proper brake pad maintenance is also critical for your safety and for the longevity of your vehicle. While you should have your brake pads checked regularly, it’s also important to be mindful of any vibrations coming from the brake pedal or steering wheel when braking. If you believe your brakes are not as responsive as they should be, or you need longer stopping distances, you Don’t ignore tires and brakes should have your brake pads checked prior to a long road trip. This is espeIn cold winter weather, air will cially important as more stress will condense, leading people to fill tires be placed on the brake system when with more air than during warmer temperatures. Because of this, drivers hauling heavy loads. should make sure tire pressure as well as tread depth is up to recommenda- Additional load requires tion as we transition to warm weather. additional prep work Don’t forget to check your spare tire Checking the components of your As we move from the cold winter months to warm summer months, diesel vehicle drivers should add an appropriate antifreeze and water mix into their diesel engine’s coolant system. A 50/50 prediluted antifreeze and coolant mix is ideal to prepare for summer driving, allowing for good heat transfer, or cooling, in the engine especially if you’re towing a boat, a trailer or any number of heavy hauls in the hot summer months. Using a prediluted antifreeze and coolant mix will help ensure you’re not accidentally concentrating one over the other, as too much antifreeze won’t deliver a good heat transfer and too much water could cause coolant system problems. Talk to your mechanic or refer to your vehicle owner’s manual about the correct amount for your vehicle.
towing system before a road trip is essential. As we enter the summer months, ensuring your hitch is structurally sound is especially important given corrosion is more likely to occur during the winter, specifically in the colder geographies where road deicers are used. This is also a good time to make sure the electrical system is set up properly and brake lights are functioning correctly. If you’re towing a boat, you should know when the last maintenance check was done, especially on the wheel ends to make sure your vehicle and trailer are in good working condition.
Pay attention to aerodynamics
A more aerodynamic vehicle will put less stress on the engine and improve fuel economy, especially when driving on the highway. Variables such as how you choose to use the storage area on top of your vehicle and the type of trailer you use can
alter the aerodynamics drastically. This does not matter as much if you’re taking a quick trip in the city. Small adjustments like reducing your speed on the highway if you’re traveling with a heavy load or using low-profile aerodynamic roof luggage carriers versus bulkier carriers to make the air flow smoother will make your vehicle more aerodynamic on the road.
Use a fuel designed to take you further
Don’t overlook the type of fuel you put in your vehicle. The bread and butter of a smooth summer road trip is using a fuel that’s formulated to keep your diesel engine running cleaner, ultimately helping to improve mileage. Using an additized diesel fuel, such as Synergy Diesel Efficient (SDE) from your nearest Exxon or Mobil station, can help deliver cleaner fuel injectors resulting in reduced emissions, enhanced engine power and can even help lower maintenance costs over time. Your fuel selection matters and addressing the variables that impact your vehicle’s performance will give you peace of mind when road tripping. —Submitted by ExxonMobil

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You can debunk the worries -- go through them one by one, measuring the merit of each, calculating their statistical likelihoods, confronting the root fears that live inside them. Or, you can just accept that you have trepidation and do the thing you’re trying to do. It’s OK if you’re scared. Do it scared.
Solution: 31 Letters

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). We’re expected to answer common questions in certain ways: “How are you doing?” “Fine.” But you imbue your questions with more meaning. When you ask how someone is, you’d like an answer that helps you connect and gives you the opportunity to share and grow together. And that’s what you’ll get.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Because you only see your half of the relationship, it’s impossible to know how the other person might be experiencing it, but oh, how you’ll try. You’ll project yourself into what you imagine to be their point of view. You’ll observe, ask questions, investigate other ways... because to see things from multiple sides is divine. CANCER (June 22-July 22). When many focus on the same thing, it creates tremendous energy -- the sort that changes things. You’ll be a part of something like this, though you might have to start it yourself. Once you get going, the people with similar intentions emerge from the woodwork. You’ll quickly gather in number. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). The first rule of driving is to maintain a car in good working order. The first rule of social life is the same -- to do what it takes to care for yourself and make sure you’re feeling good. All participation springs from your health and well-being. Exceptionally excellent participation springs from exceptionally excellent self-care. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Whether you want to know them or not, other people’s needs will be more apparent to you this week. It’s not because your senses are turned up, it’s because you’re such a comforting presence that people will gravitate toward you, unburdening their hearts and minds. There will be benefits to knowing this information. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). The magic character in the movies can somehow create tornados with the power of the mind, blowing all obstacles from the path. As the real character, you also have great mental power this week. The process won’t be nearly as quick or dramatic, but still the path gets cleared because it’s what you focus on.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). The preparations you make today will be your life tomorrow. But you want to be living, not preparing to live. That’s why you resist the planning part, which threatens to be so boring you’ll be tempted to put it off as long as possible. But it won’t be boring. In fact, it will be the best part. So don’t delay! SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). It’s the same with beer as it is with emotion: Things bottled up have their own chemical journey, often becoming a more potent or even potentially explosive version of what they were. Consider that before you put a cork in the concoction of your emotions. Friends are there for you if you want to air feelings.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Even though you like to keep things interesting and entertain those around you, your tendency is not to share every little thing going on in your world. You like to shape the story -- arrange things in a way that will make them more fascinating. It requires restraint and taste. You’ll build a beautiful mystery this week.
THIS WEEK’S BIRTHDAYS
You’ll get great at celebrating your wins, involving more people in your process, and getting the support that makes more winning possible! Over the next six weeks, three timely moves aimed at your distant future will make a remarkable difference in where you stand in 2020. Love begets more love. What you do from the goodness of your heart will turn into a bigger deal than you anticipated, so keep following those loving impulses, and then accept the bounty they lead to. LIBERTY from page 8A and choose from a list of words on what liberty means to them. The experience culminates with the pièce de résistance: an up-close view of Liberty’s most iconic symbol, the original torch. Held high for nearly 100 years, it was, according to Briganti, originally stored at the base of the statue after being rescued from the elements. The torch was taken down in 1984 and replaced in 1986. It continues to be the most powerful symbol of light

and guidance in the nation, especially during times of trial. “After September 11, security was heightened and the number of people that were allowed to go into the statue were dramatically cut,” said Briganti, noting that only 20 percent of 4.5 million annual visitors could gain access inside in the 1980s. “We wanted to build a new museum on Liberty Island that everyone could visit. It’s been 35 years since we restored the statue and there have been great advances in technology that have allowed us to create this new space.” When it came to the design of the building, there was a limited area of space to work with, since Liberty Island is fairly small. The organization raised $100 million—varying from small to large contributions—which allowed Briganti to hire museum exhibitors and contractors to begin the project. At the grand opening, Seth Meyers hosted the evening, welcoming Oprah Winfrey as the keynote speaker. Gloria Estefan and Tony Bennett also performed. The museum opened to a crowded and excited public as people poured in to see Liberty Island’s newest addition. As they waited online outside, visitors were treated to sweeping, panoramic views of Lady Liberty, lower Manhattan, and all of New York Harbor. “It was bizarre to watch this project that I have nurtured from its infancy finally come to fruition,” said Briganti. “The response has been great and I am so happy that people are actually enjoying it.” Plan your trip to Liberty Island and see what America’s symbol is all about by visiting www.libertyellisfoundation.org.

Long May They Reign Press 195 rules the world of sandwiches and beyond
BY STEVE MOSCO SMOSCO@ANTONMEDIAGROUP.COM
P
ress 195 calls itself “the Sandwich Kings since 2002,” and a return trip to the restaurant’s Rockville Centre location reaffirms their claim to the throne. Known for pressed sandwiches stuffed with flavorful meats, fresh veggies, and remarkable cheeses, Press 195 seems tightly clustered in a row of storefronts when viewed from the street. But as the doors open at 22 North Park Ave., you’re greeted with an expansive eatery that’s reminiscent of an airy beer hall. This is thanks to a recent renovation that has added brightness and elbow room to the neighborhood spot. The sheer creativity behind Rockville Centre’s Press 195 makes it the perfect place to start an eating tour in the very walkable village. Few establishments have mastered the art of the sandwich quite like Press 195, as they serve lunch, dinner, and a rotating array of standout beers in a comfortable and friendly environment. Before we get to the sandwiches, a quick word on chicken wings: Press 195 quietly boasts some of the
best wings on Long Island. A 2017 Huffington Post article named Press 195 as one of seven best wings joints in the entire state—not bad for a restaurant that is far more well known for its sandwiches. The accolades are well deserved, as both their buffalo and barbecue wings absolutely nail the crucial simplicity wing-nuts are constantly craving. Now, onto the sandwiches. Standouts include the No. 32, Jack’s Special, loaded with grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, barbecue sauce, onions and pickles; the No. 38, with grilled marinated sliced steak, avocado, sweet onion jam, fresh mozzarella, and creamy roasted pepper dressing; and the No. 26, with turkey, smoked Canadian bacon, smoked Gouda, fresh tomato and roasted garlic spread. But on this particular night, the brisket-loaded No. 46 and the veggie-infused No. 15 were the clear favorites. The No. 46 features shredded, slow-braised sweet brisket and caramelized onion sauce topped with crunchy, purple jalapeño coleslaw. The first bite reveals the time the chef puts into the brisket, as the sandwich’s depth of flavor is immediately apparent with smokiness giving

way to sweetness then to the bright spiciness of jalapeño coleslaw. The vegetarian No. 15 is no less impressive, with grilled portabella, fresh baby arugula and goat cheese with roasted garlic and black olive spread.
The intense creaminess of the goat cheese is countered with the peppery bite of the arugula, with the garlicky olive spread providing plenty of aroma and the portabella bringing flavorful heft to the sandwich. Both sandwiches
are elevated to unmatched, crisp heights with pressed, handcrafted Ciabatta bread. Press 195 also offers a sandwich creation eaters would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else; a knish sandwich. This gift to enterprising eaters has a crunchy outer shell that gives way to a molten potato filling and inner contents that range from meatloaf to brisket to pastrami to veggies. Press 195’s newest knish creation is the Knitzel, with thinly sliced breaded pork cutlet, sweet red cabbage, Swiss cheese, and a side of gravy for dipping. It is this eater’s wish that more people looked to pork for their cutlet needs— and Press 195’s is tender, with a crisp, fried exterior that is perfectly suited for pickled cabbage. Overall, Press 195’s use of a knish as the “bread” for a sandwich is downright genius. Beyond sandwiches, Press 195 boasts salads, burgers and great appetizers including grilled asparagus with tomato and fresh mozzarella in the eatery’s proprietary pure maple syrup basil pesto. Another item you should absolutely order is Press 195’s improbable vegetarian chili. Why is it improbable? Because you will refuse to believe there is no meat in this warm bowl of wonder. Feel free to incredulously ask, “are you sure there’s no meat in this,” because the servers are used to it. Rounding out the meal at Press 195 is, of course, the Belgium-style fries with an array of available dipping sauces. Hardly an afterthought, the
fries are a must-order side dish—in fact, I’d go so far as to say they are the perfect fries. But more than just a place for sandwiches and fries, Press 195 has one of the best craft beer selections in this, or any other village. It features seasonal brews and some usual favorites, as well as incredibly tasty choices that are hard to find anywhere else during a typical lunch hour, happy hour or supper time. No matter how full you might be, give yourself the gift of dessert at Press 195, as their sweet creations are just as inventive as the savory. There’s a double chocolate brownie sundae, which is just as good as you can imagine. But the true treat is the Banana Bread Press—with banana bread stuffed with fresh banana, strawberry, and pure maple syrup, pressed until golden, and covered with ice cream and candied walnuts. You will gladly accept the caloric consequences. Whether the beginning to a late night in Rockville Centre or the centerpiece of your evening, Press 195 will undoubtedly continue its long reign as the standard-bearer of sandwich majesty. Also, you’ll be thankful it’s located in a walkable village after such a hefty meal. And if you’re looking for a place to host or cater your party, Rockville Centre’s Press 195 has the space, the staff, and the amazing food to pull it off. Press 195, 22 N. Little Stein Takes Over The Racing World BY JOSEPH WOLKIN

he original George Steinbrenner didn’t make the cut to actually appear in the hit sitcom Seinfeld. So as genius as he is, Larry David depicted the voice (and back of the head) of the famed New York Yankees owner, going as far as calling himself the “Big Stein.” Now, there’s a new Steinbrenner in town. “Little Stein” is George Steinbrenner IV, the grandson of one of the most successful owners in baseball history. While this Little Stein might not be known to many just yet, he’s making waves in what may be perceived as an unlikely world: Motor sports. However, the young Steinbrenner wants people to know about his family’s great passion for racecars. “I grew up around racing, much like baseball, primarily on my mother’s side of the family,” Steinbrenner, 22, said. “I had a cousin who was an Indy car driver by the name of Tony Renna [passed away in an October 2003 accident] and I have an uncle who’s a longtime engineer by the name of Chris Simmons, who’s a five-time champion. I grew up around the sport, watching it, going to races and falling in love with it, much like I did with baseball.” So when Mike Harding presented Steinbrenner an ownership stake in his IndyCar Series team, he couldn’t pass on the opportunity. After a semester in Stetson University, the Florida native dropped out to focus on owning an Indy Lights team, the minor league version of Indy car, before teaming with Harding. In doing so, he picks up where his grandfather left off, owning a team in the 1970s with Pat Patrick. The youngest owner in the series’ history, Steinbrenner has lofty goals. He wants his organization to be the New York Yankees of the racing realm, and he’s determined to make sure that happens. “My grandfather had a great passion for horse racing,” he said of the family patriarch, who passed away in 2010. “For him, the Kentucky Derby was the white whale. It was the one he always wanted and always strived for. He won seven World Series championships and loved every single one of them like they were his kids, but he always wanted that derby. For me, the

Indianapolis 500 is the same. The 500 is the white whale, the one I’m going to spend my whole life trying to get if I can.” The young Harding Steinbrenner Racing team fields a full-time entry for Colton Herta, a 19-yearold rookie driver. A mere two races into the IndyCar Series season and the No. 88 car was in the winner’s circle, with Steinbrenner celebrating his first of what very well might be many racing wins. However, it’s not the prestigious 500-mile race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It’s not the one that everyone strives for. It’s not the one that even his grandfather attempted to win. “People expect the Steinbrenner name at the top,” he said. The pressure built leading up to this year’s Indianapolis 500. But after a great qualifying run, starting the race in the fifth of 33 positions, Herta’s gearbox broke on the third of 200 laps, putting a premature end to his shot at winning the biggest event of the year. “When he’s not in Speedway, Indiana, he’s at a Yankee game marketing to more people in New York,” Herta said of Steinbrenner. “He’s an awesome employer and a true friend, so I’d say it’s cool to say I

work for him.” Nonetheless, Steinbrenner won’t give up. Eventually, he will likely take over the Yankees from his father Hank Steinbrenner and uncle Hal Steinbrenner, who currently split ownership duties. Unless they make the unlikely move of selling the team, this lad is next in line to own baseball’s most valuable organization. “With my uncle and father in great health and they will be for a long time, having success over there, it’s been discussed,” Steinbrenner IV said. “I have a great passion for Yankee baseball. Who knows? Maybe down the line, I’ll be lucky enough to be involved in both of my great passions in life.” For now, he’s getting plenty of executive experience in motor sports. He’s getting his feet wet and having fun while doing it. There are plenty of struggles along the way, such as figuring out how to be a productive owner, attracting sponsorship and more. But using lessons learned from his father, uncle and grandfather, he believes there’s nothing that will stop him from being a success in both racing and baseball. “We’re a close family and we’re all very supportive of what each other does,” Steinbrenner said. “It’s great that way. I don’t know if setting myself apart is what I want. It’s not just the name George Steinbrenner in it. I want to bring the Steinbrenner name as a whole to Indy car racing, and I want to have success in the sport.” Maybe, just maybe, there will be a full Seinfeld reunion and David will let this young Steinbrenner try out for the role his grandfather couldn’t make.
