Hiking is one of the best ways to experience the beauty of Langlade County. Whether you are a beginner hiker, hiking with your family, or an experienced explorer, Langlade County has trails to meet your needs. Bring your compass, GPS, and sense of adventure.

Ackley Wildlife Area

Eleven miles west of Antigo, this 1,158-acre state-owned site is located next to 20,000 acres of Langlade County land. The area is mainly grasslands with scattered ponds, so hikers have great opportunities to see grassland birds, including Clay-colored and Henslow's Sparrows. Yellow-headed Blackbirds use the cattail marshes for nesting, and there are numerous species of ducks nesting.

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

The Forest covers the eastern portion of Langlade County and offers many opportunities for hiking on its many forest roads.

Gartzke Trail

This trail is located east of Antigo, off of 5th Avenue Road. These 8-miles of trails are very scenic and traverse through Norway Pines, upland hardwood, and cedar swamps along the flowage. The flowage divides the property nearly in half but is connected by a 70-foot wooden bridge.

Ice Age National Scenic Trail

Langlade County is home to more than 50 miles of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. There are five trail segments for you: the 9.5-mile Kettlebowl, the 12-mile Lumbercamp, the 12-mile Summit Moraine, 8-mile Highland Lakes, and the 12-mile Parrish Hills. The Kettlebowl and Highland Lakes Segments each have over 4-miles of connecting links over town roads. From the starting point on County Road B, hikers will pass through areas of yellow birch, tamarack, and balsam in lowland bogs/wetlands and paper birch, maple, and aspen. Continuing on, segments head through mixed Forest, towering old red pine, a small bog lake, a hemlock grove as the trail becomes more glaciated, twisty, and hilly.

Bass Lake Golf Course

Disc Golf

Disk golf is a fun, easy, and inexpensive way to get outdoors with friends, family, and even by yourself. It is a lot like golf, but players use a flying disc instead of a ball and clubs. Discs are different from traditional Frisbee; they are smaller in diameter, have a beveled edge, and are generally heavier. The game's object is to complete each hole in the fewest strokes throws. Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations of golf, whether it's sinking a long putt or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway.

Antigo High School

This 9-hole course is primarily flat & lightly wooded, featuring very flat ground, and is usually windy. Stakes mark the tees. The course fairways are relatively easy, although some are rather long. Location: 1900 10th Avenue, Antigo

City of Antigo

Parking in the Little League parking lot and walk the boardwalk starting on the north end of 2nd Avenue.

A bar, restaurant, driving range, practice green, and pro shop are available on site.

Quig's Maplewood Golf Course

N9240 Hwy 55, Pickerel – 715-484-4653 This beautiful 9-hole golf course is nestled in Wisconsin's beautiful North Woods. In addition to the course and driving range, the clubhouse includes a pro shop, bar and grill, and a spacious porch overlooking the course.

Riverview Golf Course

W11817 Highland Rd., Antigo – 715-623-2663 This 9-hole course borders the junction of the Eau Claire River's two branches. Players of all ability levels will be treated to a fair and challenging experience while enjoying a scenic journey. The course offers a practice range, a pro shop, and a bar.

Skateboarding The Optimist Skate Park is located at 1011 1st Avenue. This park offers a variety of ramps, rails, and boxes for skateboarders and rollerbladers to practice and showcase their skills. The park is open seasonal from 8:00 am to dusk.

Veteran's Memorial Park

Enjoy the outdoors playing this 18-hole course, which traverses its way through 156 acres of old pine plantation and forests along the park's north side. You can try your hand at fairways that range from 150 feet to 570 feet. Discs can be purchased or rented at the park office. Location: N8375 Park Drive, Deerbrook

Geocaching Geocaching is the world's largest treasure hunt. The high-tech treasure hunt combines GPS tracking with outdoor adventure, and it's fun for all ages.

Tennis Courts There are two tennis courts located in Antigo. Jaycee Park, located along Tenth Avenue, one block west of Highway 45, is an excellent location for amateur & experienced tennis players. The park has multiple courts and plenty of parking available. The courts are open through the summer months.

There are abundant of caches hidden in Langlade County to find. You pinpoint the location of a cache using a GPS unit, then share the site online or app. Finding GPS coordinates is only half the game. First, you have to find the box. Bring out your GPS unit and give it a try!

Ellison Tennis Courts along Tenth Avenue across from the Antigo

Not only is geocaching a great way to get a bit of exercise and appreciate nature, but it's also an excellent way to connect with friends and family. Even the four-legged kind! It's an adventure hunting down that elusive treasure the whole family can do together.

Waymarking

All you need to get started is a GPS device (like your smartphone!), an account on Geocaching.com, and an adventurous spirit! Seriously, that's all it takes. It does help to check out the guides to geocaching and be familiar with area trails. But you can always learn as you go!

antigochamber.com

High School. Ellison Tennis Courts have numerous courts enclosed in a chain-link fence. These courts are home to the Antigo Red Robin Tennis team and are available for public use on certain days.

Waymarking is a way to mark unique locations on the planet and give them a voice. While GPS technology allows us to pinpoint any location globally, mark the site, and share it with others, Waymarking is the toolset for categorizing and adding unique information for that location.

White Lake Area Historical Society Center 700 Lake Street, White Lake, WI

The main museum building was originally constructed as a Carnegie Library in 1905. It housed the Antigo Public Library until 1997. After the Library moved to downtown, the building received an update and became the Langlade County Historical Society Museum. Deleglise Cabin Francis Deleglise's family built the cabin in 1878. The cabin originally stood on the west bank of Spring Brook, near what later became north Superior Street (Highway 45). A few original artifacts in the cabin included furniture pieces, pictures, and Deleglise's tripod and surveying equipment. It is on the grounds of the Langlade Historical Museum. 440 Locomotive and 1956 Caboose The 440 locomotive with tender is located outside of the Langlade County Historical Society Museum. NI CO LE T-W O LF R I V E R S CE NI C BY WAY R OUTE The Nicolet-Wolf River Scenic Byway is a 145-mile route that winds through Wisconsin’s northern counties including Forest, Langlade, Oneida, and Vilas. It is the second-largest scenic byway in Wisconsin. Access the byway for Langlade County at the intersection of Highway 55 and 64, Langlade, Highway 55 and 52, Lily heading north to Pickerel for outstanding views of the Wolf River and the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. A variety of recreational opportunities are available to travelers ranging from activities on the multi-use trail systems to water-based sports. You will discover communities where life moves at a slower pace and centers around time-honored traditions and values. Enjoy beautiful scenery dotted with majestic vistas, winding roads, and family-owned businesses offering hometown hospitality. Hear the peaceful sounds of Northern wildlife - loons on a quiet morning waking with the early fog on the lake, barn owls calling in the quiet of a moonlit night, or the rustle of leaves as you and a white-tailed deer cross paths. Amid the relaxing atmosphere and peaceful scenery, you will find a unique blend of attractions: gaming, entertainment, food and shopping, trails, and sports that make our area a favorite vacation destination for all ages. Fall in Love with the Byway and experience a sense of place, where the people and nature are authentic. For more information, visit
