1. HERBTOPIA: THE CENTRE OF FRAMING SUSTAINABLE MEDICAL GROWING AND RESEARCH Skills learned: Material Collage, Conceptual Philosophy, and Community involved projects.

Software used: AutoCAD, SketchUP, Adobe Photoshop.

As part of AgGrow food territories, a food belt system running alongside the contour of Treherbert (created by the growing group) is a cosmetics research facility of Herb and Mushroom production named Herbtopia, designed to give a new identity to Treherbert. Herbtopia is the production side of AgGrow food territories that aims to “reminisce redolence.” The main concept of this project is to frame the most important views of Treherbert as its beautiful scenery had been neglected because of the “isolation” in the Rhondda Cynon Taff.

Located near the Welcome to Our woods proposed agroforestry, the project is accessed through the abandoned wildlife corridor, producing flora along the steep contour not only creating aroma around its territory, but also prevents the ongoing flooding, bringing the community back together and flourishes the economic activity of Treherbert again.

2. STADE FORESTIER PRIMER PROJECT: STAGING IN THE FOREST Skills Learned: Live project, Mapping, Leaflet/Brochure making, and Archival sections Software used: AutoCAD, and Adobe Photoshop

‘Staging in the forest’ proposal is a multifunctional space that can be mainly used for performances that include; Theatre; Opera; Bands/Instrumental; Rap and Dance. This will be a community-based project that will involve members from WTOW and the residents living in Treherbert who are interested in woodwork, arts and crafts.

Due to this involvement, this project allows to bring the town into the forest and the forest into the town.

How? The honey-pot site can be made into different modular templates that can be scattered across the whole of Treherbert. These modules can be combined and shaped into different objects that can function in the area of Treherbert (Skateboard ramps, benches, bus stops, etc.) The loss of Treherbert’s theatre and other places of leisure stems from the economic inactivity. By bringing this module on site brings back the liveliness of Treherbert, having third sector groups and communities to enjoy activites/events outdoors.

3. FFAIRGORA REGENERATING CAERPHILLY’S AGORA (REVISED) Skills Learned: Technical Sections with facade, details and structure.

Software used: AutoCAD, and Adobe Photoshop

Located in Caerphilly and inspired by Waterloo City Farm, the market hall proposal is based on an exposed skeletal structure that echoes throughout the building. Ffairgora is a market hall on 48km2 land with a masterplan that consists on a cycle on food production and education. The concept of Ffairgora is based on a contemporary version of Caerphilly’s main landmark, Caerphilly Castle.

Ffairgora will create a new identity for Caerphilly bringing people into the city whilst making tourists engage and respect Caerphilly in a different way. Not only will this Market Hall be a new way of sustainability and a stepping stone in providing a healthier and happier life for the town of Caerphilly, but will regenerate multiple factors of Caerphilly’s economic income as well as bring the community back into Caerphilly’s untouched nature.

4. DDIFFYNAS CITADEL HOUSING FOR THE CITY OF CAERPHILLY (REVISED) Skills Learned: Collage, Model making Skills used: Adobe Photoshop, and Model making

Ddiffynas is a housing proposal driven by the first impressions of two different scaled settings: A street and a city.

Inspired by the relationship between the difference of textures; smooth concrete, rough brick and the flow of a thousand leaves, the ‘Citadel housing’ contradicts all the concepts of its designs, creating a relationship within the community. This project is located in the Welsh City of Caerphilly which emphasises the aesthetics of their historical landmark, Caerphilly Castle. The aim of this project is to enliven the site of Caerphilly, making the place tranquil due to the absence of freedom. (Road issues) The scheme accommodates social housing units for locals (homeless) and immigrants that need assistance from danger. (refugees/asylum seekers) These units can be sold and rented at market value that benefits notfor-profit organisations (third sectors) that provide homes and related services in Wales.

5. NIVEAU D’EAU THE BAY POURFORMANCE OF SCOTCH MIST (REVISED) Skills Learned: Axonometric Drawings, and Adobe Photoshop Software used: SketchUP, and Adobe Photoshop

The Festival Stage Project manifests the poetics of performance and climate, using rain as a source of both drama and sustainability in the upcoming National Eisteddfod May 2025. The Project is situated on the Quayside Docks of Ocean Havannah, at Mount Stuart Graving Docks in Cardiff Bay. Niveau D’eau translates to ‘Rain Stage’ in Welsh, influenced by the rainy weather of Cardiff and all other areas of Wales, emphasising the drama of Welsh performance. The main attraction of this stage is having a waterstone feature, using a local material sourced from Cardiff Bay, in the centre of the proposal which is part of the sustainability scheme, using rainwater for greywater recycling, energy and aesthetics as light hits the stone feature.

6. TUCK TONNAU THE TECTONIC WAVE KIOSK OF WALES Skills Learned: Masterplanning, Axonometric Drawings, AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop Software used: SketchUP, and Adobe Photoshop

This design project focuses on the use of light and colour in the interior and exterior of a kitchen kiosk. To plan a kitchen kiosk for the board walk that runs across the River Taff as part of the ‘Millennium Walk,’ especially the section that passes on the Western side of Cardiff Arms Park, due North of Principality Stadium.

The main goal is to include a series of; concessions for visitors of the football and rugby stadium, spectators who are attending a number of sports and music activities; to enliven this part of Cardiff’s public domain. The kiosk mainly sells Welsh Rarebit made by a Junior Culinary team allowing tourists to experience a taste of Welsh culture.

i. IMAGINING THE GREEN FUTURE

Third Sector Engagement and Participation in Green Infrastructures: To inform future partnerships with Education Organisations through Live Projects in Wales.

Skills Learned: Networking, Curation, Teamwork, Conducting Interviews, Research, Desktop work Software used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

This project is delivered in conjunction with the external partner Green Infrastructure Community (GIC) and aims to learn about the Third Sector and its characteristics. The project aims to understand the geography, dynamics, and scale of the third-sector organizations that are interested in and/or are working on green infrastructures in Wales to inform future connections and partnerships with educational organisations.

During this project, there was a realisation that the scope of the research had expanded and changed over time as the idea of the Third Sector is more complex than intended, yet the invaluable knowledge can benefit third sector organisations and related communities to define themselves and their importance in the world – which can be through illustrations, simplifying the terminology and presenting the work through live projects and activities.

Even though bikes do not count as Green infrastructure, it is indirectly related as not only it prevents the increase of climate change, it is good for mental health and well-being. It is also good for creating self energy.

POSSIBLE PROPOSALS

EXISTING PROPOSALS

Green Infrastructure is not only aimed and managed small scale. There are multiple forms which a normal person does not see. Green Infrastructure is a wide scale project aiding biodiversity, energy and climate change. It is a network that benefits multiple communities and it is possible to have a future of Green Infrastructure. Third Sector can play a massive role in participating in this as networking with other sectors and communities can quicken the pace in sustainability and prevention of climate change, an important present day topic.

EXISTING PROPOSALS

Educational Institutions like Universities to introduce growing, green roofs and other forms of green infrastructure/crop education Reducing, Reusing and Recycling in urban places can prevent climate change. Using buses and bikes instead of cars main transport.

EXISTING PROPOSALS

Green roofs/ sun roofs to reduce heat loss during winter and gain during summer as well as gain sustainable energy benefiting the residents.

POSSIBLE PROPOSALS

Allotments for self-sustaining food without relying on international suppliers.
