SOUTH AMBOY TO HOLD ANNUAL ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE ON MARCH 2OTH
The South Amboy St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, in conjunction with the City of South Amboy, will present its annual St. Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday, March 20th at 2pm. Begun in 1976 with a single bagpiper, South Amboy Police, Fire and First Aid Squads and a small group of marchers the parade has grown to include over 23 marching bands and over 50 marching groups made up of honorees, dignitaries, local organizations and businesses, as well as youth organizations, car

clubs, and multiple fire companies from throughout New Jersey earning it the distinct honor of being the second largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New Jersey. In addition to the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the committee is also assisting the City of South Amboy with its second Annual Irish Festival. This year’s event is scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 1 at Waterfront Park, South Amboy. The afternoon will include musical performances by Andy Cooney and The Willie
Lynch Band, crafters and food vendors, Irish dancers, and the Colonel D. B. Kelly Pipes and Drums. The festival will end with a spectacular fireworks display. The parade committee is made up of 17 dedicated volunteers each of whom bring their own area of expertise and are assigned specific role within the committee and during events. Meetings are held monthly throughout the year as the committee works diligently on fundraising activities, event coordination, website development, advertising, and community outreach. Currently, the committee is looking for businesses and organizations interested in participating in the upcoming March 20th parade as well as individuals looking for volunteer opportunities and willing to add their area of expertise to our organization. In addition, this March, Silver Linings and the Township of Old Bridge join the Administration for Community Living and senior nutrition service providers across the country to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the national Senior Nutrition Program. As part of the Senior Nutrition Program network, Silver Linings at Old Bridge helps older adults in our community by promoting healthy eating, decreasing social isolation, and improving health. The program also provides connections to home and community-based services that can support independence and overall well-being. This service took on an even bigger role during the pandemic when seniors became homebound due to COVID. The meal delivery service grew exponentially and daily interactions during deliveries reminded residents that they were not alone. For 50 years, senior nutrition services have helped create

healthy, strong communities where all members can flourish regardless of their age. That’s why we proudly recognize this milestone anniversary of the national Senior Nutrition Program and its tremendous impact on the health and well-being of older adults in our community. It is important to note that the proposed budget scheduled for introduction is $251,124.00 below the state mandated cap base. The purpose of this ordinance is to allow the Township to carry the CAP balance for up to two years, in accordance with state statute, providing some level of flexibility for the Township should local or state economic conditions change. 5. PIGS ARE SMART, BUT DOGS CAN DO IT ALL By Anita Greenberg, DVM
Dr. Anita Greenberg and her husband, Dr. Daniel Belli, are the owners and operators of the East Brunswick Animal Hospital for more than 30 years. Dr. Greenberg has been a member of the Old Bridge Township Council since 2016 I am often asked, “Which animal is more intelligent, a pig or a dog?” It is documented that pigs are smarter than any other domesticated animal, and they are considered by animal experts to be more trainable than dogs. Pigs trail only chimps, dolphins and elephants in terms of intelligence in the animal kingdom. Pigs are able to solve problems. They are skilled at mazes and other tests requiring location of
objects, and they have excellent long-term memory and object location memory. They are capable of playing video games, and they can be taught tricks. But, when I think of all the things that dogs have done to make the world a better place, it is difficult to think of them as less intelligent than pigs. Think of Seeing Eye guide dogs, who have profoundly made a positive change for the visually impaired, allowing them to have a better quality of life. They help the blind navigate through the world, and they have excellent temperaments. I have not witnessed pigs with this skill. Dogs assist police, the military and other law enforcement personnel. They are used for searching for drugs and explosives, locating missing people, and locating crime scene evidence. A dog’s sense of smell is somewhere between 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than humans. They are used in the apprehension of suspects and, when
necessary, as attack dogs. They function as guard dogs to secure locations and control prisoners. Search and rescue dogs have saved lives and assisted in finding people lost in the wilderness or during natural disasters. They have been known to find people trapped beneath collapsed structures, under water and under snow. Labrador retrievers are the most common breed used. Herding dogs, especially Border collies, are used worldwide to work with sheep, cattle and alpacas. Service dogs help to make better the lives of their human companions, assisting their owners both physically and emotionally. Golden retrievers are the most common breed used in this function. Hunting dogs have been working with humans for centuries and developed specialties. Labrador retrievers are used for hunting and retrieving water fowl. German shorthair pointers and English springer
spaniels flush birds. Beagles are the best for rabbit hunting. Foxhounds are suited for fox and deer. For hog hunting, the Dogo Argentino and Catahoula Leopard dog are the choice. For sledding, the Alaskan husky is the breed most in demand. Dogs, naturally attentive to sound, are alert and ready to work in an instant and used with people who have hearing deficiency. They alert their owners with a nudge in response to important sounds like a smoke alarm, a doorbell, an alarm clock, telephone, or a crying baby. They serve as their master’s ears. Dogs have a sensitive sense of smell. This can be useful in the medical world to sniff out diseases such as cancer, detecting the odor in the skin, urine or sweat. Dogs have been trained to respond to the onset of a seizure in epileptics. The dog can actually predict a seizure before it happens by a scent emitted by the owner. The dog barks to alert caregivers, moves in a way
to protect the person having the seizure and can activate an alarm. They will also protect the person seizing from falling by the way they position themselves. Medical investigators are exploring the possibility of using dogs as a reliable way to pre-screen people for Covid-19. T he re are many ot he r uses for our canine companions that are beneficial. So who do you think is more intelligent, a pig or a dog? Dogs, thanks to wonderful handlers and researchers, have had their intelligence developed with training techniques and programs. They are willing partners in enriching the lives of people.

LIVING STONES MANIPULATION
“In like a lion, out like a lamb” i s a n c i e nt weather folklore for the month o f Ma r c h , springing Lloyd Pulley, f r o m t h e Senior Pastor belief that there should be balance and order in the world. We naturally hate imbalance and discord— which ordinarily is a good thing. Unfortunately, this longing for balance can be a seedbed of opportunity for devious salesmen, greedy corporate leaders, power-hungry politicians, and social engineers—not to mention “community organizers.” At any real or manufactured crisis, from ring-around-the-collar to the threat of world war, these elevate the problem in order to swoop in as trusted rescuers. The Bible account of a man named Abimelech takes place in Judges 9. He was one of the first in recorded history to create a crisis and then “solve” it by his leadership. He was the first to

use “identity politics.” He convinced one ethnic group they were being oppressed by those in power, and then he was there to help them. He hired a group of worthless men, a modern-day “cancel culture”, to swoop in and eliminate the “oppressors”—who were the descendants of a biblical hero, Gideon. Fortunately this terrorist, one of the worst leaders Israel ever had, met an untimely end. And that is both a warning and encouragement to us today. The average person is unaware as to what is happening in larger national affairs and can be easily manipulated through their identity group. Bible-believers are often troubled when evil triumphs, and like the psalmist exclaim, “Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble?” (Psalm 10:1). In other words, “Where are you, God? Why are you allowing this?” Yet, most of Psalm 10 reveals the wicked have no problem in lying, cheating, stealing, and deceiving to obtain their desires, regardless of who they hurt. And they are adept at using fear to intimidate or greed to manipulate so that justice
can be twisted to their end. The elite profit from stirring the pot and then “solving” the chaos they create—whether confusion over COVID, Critical Race Theory, gender identity, or abortion, etc. Those who hold and promote the truth are often censored or maligned, risking their livelihoods, as present-day “Abimelechs” cancel them. Who would have thought America would be susceptible to such obvious distortions of common sense and justice? Have corporate, political, educational, and media leaders sold truth for money and power? Times like these are a struggle for the poor, the honest, and the humble—yet this is perhaps a needful time of shaking before the final judgment day when God will separate “the sheep from the goats.” The wicked ruling class may be exempt from the human law, but one day will answer to God for their crimes against Him and humanity. Are some so drunk with power and pleasure they see no danger ahead? The cost for those who are honest to uphold the truth is high. To go against the national narrative takes guts! But hold fast

to your integrity, because you are never wrong when you do the right thing. True, some may be removed from medical positions for being honest about COVID and the vaccines. Yes, many more will be hounded for their belief in the Bible on marriage and gender. But remember, lies eventually are exposed, and God will use these challenging times as a test for the souls of people. Is there any hope for Americans to survive such deception despite the pressure to be silent in so many areas? I don’t know. But more important and valuable than the nation as a whole is each soul. There will always be those who regard God and truth more than personal safety and gain and will risk all to speak the truth in love. Remember what Marley’s ghost said to Scrooge— he said,
“Humanity was my business!” There is still hope when a remnant exists that loves truth more than money, power, pleasure, fear of loss, and even more than their own families and lives. Otherwise this nation, which became great because she was good, will end up like every other nation which perished in the past in selling its soul for trinkets. Psalm 10 is a shot across the bow to those who have sold their soul into evil to be warned to mend their ways—mend your ways and come to Jesus! He is merciful, loving, compassionate, forgiving, and kind. It is also an encouragement to those who hold their integrity and are willing to sacrifice for what is right—that there is a God who judges fairly and will evaluate every deed in the end.

HIGH SCHOOL FRESHMAN WILL TAKE THE NEW SAT
“Put Down Your #2 Pencils. Forever” quipped the New York Times in their January 25th article. It is true. The SAT is going digital. This new test will be available outside the US in 2023. Current freshman will get their first taste of the new format as a PSAT in October 2023 before they take the new official SAT in 2024. The test is section-adaptive, which means that, if a student does well on the first reading section, he or she will receive a more difficult second reading section. Since some students will have a more difficult overall test, the test will be weighted accordingly. Also,
as a result of this format, the assessment will be cut from 3 hours to 2 and can still accurately reflect the student’s ability. There will be no more no-calc math section. Longer reading passages with be replaced by short passages, which have just one question each, allowing the College Board to test students on a wider range of topics. Students will can use their own computers or tablets or will be provided with one at the test center. Testing will not be done at home. Students will have more test dates and locations to choose from as a result of the digital format. The test will still be scored out
of 1600. Students will receive their scores more quickly than the current 13-day turnaround time. Practice tests are expected to be available, free of charge, on Khan Academy’s website, by the fall of 2022. The college Board plans to make a clean break from the paper format to the digital format, except in the case of 504 or IEP accommodations calling for a paper and pencil test. We may see many current freshmen flee to the ACT (as happened in the last SAT overhaul in March of 2016) since students (as well as universities) will know what to expect from that test.
