TOUGH SEASON FOR NJ FARMERS Greetings from the farm! We wish we had better news, but this season has been extremely challenging to say the least. Due to a late freeze at the very end of April and into May, we have about 20-30% of a crop for apples, nectarines and peaches. We lost all the plums and all the cherries. To make matters worse, we have not had a measurable rain since June 6th and that was only six tenths of an inch. This summer we have seen very hot, windy weather and it’s been extremely dry. We have attempted to water some crops by hand because some fields have no access to water.

We hope it will turn around, but it seems that the damage may be done. We have been able to pick some of everything, just not the volume we’re used to. We still have tomatoes, corn, blueberries, blackberries, peaches, apples, melons, peppers, and more! We appreciate your support and patience as we navigate through a very difficult season. We are most proud that each publication is reader friendly and appropriate for all ages. As a parent of three children, our goal is to be informative, educational, and inspiring. Always apolitical and hyper-local, we are excited to bring our publications to the townships of Matawan and Aberdeen working in concert

Saltwater Day is a fantastic festival on the beach, located at the Old Bridge Waterfront Park in Laurence Harbor on Saturday August 13, 2022, from 2pm -10pm.

Admission is free to this fun filled day!! Come and join us; we have vendors of every type,

from toys, face painting, jewelry, homemade doggie treats, all kinds of beautiful handmade crafts, clothes, hats, handbags, and sunglasses just to name a few.

The kids will love the rides and keep them busy for hours, we have mechanical rides, obstacle courses,

22 ft. water slides, interactive games and special surprises!!!!

Stay for Lunch or Dinner our handpicked food trucks are serving some delicious dishes!!

We have BBQ, Seafood, Greek delights, Latin Cuisine, Italian Sausages, all American Burgers and Hot Dogs to start off with!!

Then on to dessert, our food court is loaded with all your festival favorites from Ice Cream, Ice’s, Zeppole’s, and fried everything!! The Laurence Harbor Fire Department will be back with the Beer Garden to wash down all that good food and rock the night away to the bands.

Throughout the summer months, Mayor there is Owen Henry much to see and do here In Old Bridge Township. For great family and friend outings, please visit our local parks and fields for some outdoor recreation.

We have fantastic outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy.

The nationally accredited Silver Linings Center continues to develop new and exciting social, wellness and lifestyle programs to service the seniors of our community. A full calendar of activities is planned in August 2022. Come out and join the fun with the members of the Silver Linings Community. Furthermore, the Silver Linings Center provides services including transportation, healthcare guidance, pharmaceutical

assistance and so much more.

The Old Bridge Township Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce our annual Saltwater Day which will take place on Saturday, August 13th from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

This event will have arts, crafts, vendors, rides, entertainment, food, and conclude with fireworks. Live music will be played throughout the day. For our 21 and older guests, the Laurence Harbor Fire Department will be hosting a Beer Garden, proof of age required. This event will take place rain or shine.

The Old Bridge Township Cultural Arts Committee formed a public/private partnership with the Shoppes at Old Bridge. The committee will host a variety of art, educational, and community themed exhibitions. For an updated calendar of events and times, please visit oldbridge.com.

We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of Assemblyman Ronald S. Dancer. We acknowledge his contributions to Old Bridge and his dedicated service to the 12th Legislative District. Ron was a gentleman and respected by all his colleagues in the Assembly and the Senate. He will be missed by many. His wife Brenda, along with family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.

Prior to joining Old Bridge Medical Center and Raritan Bay Medical Center, Patricia served as chief operating officer for Palisades Medical Center and recently as interim president, chief hospital executive.

Pat is a graduate of Boston College where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and then went on to achieve a Master of Perinatal Nursing Degree from Rutgers University, Newark, NJ. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds a Six Sigma Green Belt in Healthcare from Villanova University.

Dr. Anita Greenberg and her husband, Dr. Daniel Belli, are the owners and operators of the East Brunswick Animal Hospital for more than 30 years. Dr. Greenberg has been a member of the Old Bridge Township Council since 2016 Whether it be a dog or a cat, deciding to add a second pet might seem like a simple idea, but there are many factors to consider.

Do you have the time to devote to a new pet? Does your current pet get along with other pets? Does your current pet have any health issues?

Are they old and debilitated?

Make sure everyone in the household is in agreement with adding a new pet to the family.

Does anyone have allergies

your calendar and schedule allows you the necessary time to adjust and train a new pet.

Are you planning a vacation, any special projects or events that would necessitate a break in schedule of training and adjustment for your new pet? Get a family consensus that everyone will pitch in to help the new pet adjust, along with the care and training.

You may want to bring home a blanket with the scent of the new pet prior to their introduction. In this way, the existing pet will get accustomed to the scent and have some familiarity.

Consider your current pet’s personality beforehand. Does your current pet love any and all living creatures or are they standoffish or aggressive when around other animals? Some pets prefer to live in a single pet household.

Consider your pet’s socialization skills and attitude when they are introduced to a new pet.

The introduction should take place in a neutral fenced area. Be sure to consistently supervise. Bowing means they are friendly. Observe for any angry barking, showing of their teeth, or hair on end. These signs indicate a problem is brewing.

Calmly divert the dog’s attention away from the situation. Give equal attention to both dogs.

Dogs can be kept separate from each other in the house with a baby gate. This way they have access to each other scents but not each other, and get familiar with each other in a calm safe manner.

Also, pets should be fed separately to avoid any aggression.

Swapping the bedding between pets is also beneficial in introducing each other to their scents.

IT IS ESSENTIAL TO KNOW IF SAT OR ACT IS BETTER FOR YOUR CHILD When I receive a phone call, the first piece of advice I give to parents is for them to send their child for a mock SAT AND ACT. It is a bit easier for me to focus on just the SAT since everyone All Around Old Bridge seems to be taking that test…. So why would I suggest taking a mock test of each?...because having taught these tests for the past 24 years, I have watched students over and over as they have struggled with the SAT when the ACT was likely a better fit for them. I have seen others, who have done their due diligence, shine on the test that was a better fit for them.

As a result, these other students were admitted to universities that may have never accepted them had they not taken the right test.

For example, a former student who found that the ACT was

a better fit is now entering his senior year at Emory, the #21 ranked university (out of over 2800 4-year institutions) on US News and World Report. To give you a mental toehold, Emory is among the top 99.993% of 4-year colleges. Another former student was admitted to an even higher-ranking school--an Ivy League-- UPenn, after posting an ACT score that was comparably better than his SAT score.

Granted, crushing both exams

will only help students’ chances of getting into the nation’s most elite universities, but what about the rest of us? It is important to remember the purpose of these exams—to maximize the chance a student has to get into his or her top-choice university.

Mindful of this fact, why not first figure out which test is better?

LIVING STONES A “SANCTUARY” STATE

We stand in awe and marvel at the intimacy of creation—that a baby can already hear, see, touch, taste, and smell even before birth. Through the eyes of one child in the womb, a world of possibilities exists amongst a world of God-given potential.

On June 24, 2022, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, declaring that abortion is not a constitutional right. An already divided nation split once more with eruptions of both joy and anguish from the two polarized sides. The issue of “choice” versus life has turned into a

politicized movement in that the pot is continuously being stirred with emotional outrage.

Some paint the picture that any unplanned pregnancy will result in child abuse and suicide—and any moralist pressuring a woman into having her baby is most despicable. Yet the ideology of eugenics (Margaret Sanger unashamedly promoted abortion to reduce the black population) reveals the racial component which led to three-quarters of abortion providers setting up shop nearby minority neighborhoods. Then add to that the powerful lobbyists behind this multi-billion-dollar state-supported venture regularly rousing the mob to chant, “My Body, My Choice!” As with many slogans from the crowd, the truth is often radically different. But that noise helps to drown out any honest inquiry and discussion, so the other side is demonized as if they don’t care about women in crisis pregnancy situations.

And even on the pro-life side, some come with condemning slogans, graphic images, and angry rants. Yet many on both

sides genuinely care for women in-between these two extremes— and that is where we should spend our emotional energy!

Let’s support those who step in to help women in these challenging situations so that all end up doing well—baby, mother, and father.

Why do most women who get an abortion feel they had no other choice? Why has “pro-choice” become only “onechoice” as abortion providers fail to show other options? At its roots, the abortion industry is a ministry of death, and we would do well to remember the life inside the womb and the woman feeling she has no other choice.

With the upheaval of the law on the federal level, now individual states are left with the decision to govern in the area of abortion. Those states choosing not to comply with the Supreme Court’s decision will now be deemed “Sanctuary States,” with New Jersey at the top of the list.

There’s a lot of irony in that title.

An animal sanctuary provides safety and protection for wildlife.

In religion, a sanctuary is a place of worship, holy and sacred. And

Websters additionally defines a sanctuary as “the protection from danger or a difficult situation provided by a safe place.”

The sanctuary is supposed to be a safe place, yet a mother’s womb is now the deadliest place on earth. Many pro-life people blame the woman, but when the man has no genuine care and is unsupportive, many women feel their only option is abortion.

Let the father step in and affirm, “You’d be a great mom, and I will be here for you!” When the father of the unborn joins the mother on our mobile pregnancy unit, seeing the ultrasound and hearing that heartbeat, without fail all have said, “I am all in!” But if he does not, let us step in and commit to be there.

Many don’t realize that women who have had abortions carry a heavy burden of grief, regret, and guilt they must fight through.

Even when some pat them on the back and applaud them for their courageous decision to have an abortion, they know deep down inside that it was wrong. It was wrong, and they now wrestle with thoughts of how old their

baby would be, what their baby would look like, and what their baby’s purpose may have been.

L i f e a l w ay s g i v e s y ou way better options!

Dozens of women have sent us unsolicited pictures of their babies, thanking our Bridge Women’s Center for being there when they felt they had no choice but to have an abortion—and now they have this beautiful baby instead! Choosing life means opportunities for others to come alongside the whole woman and to assist her. And even if a woman has had an abortion, an opportunity exists to come to grips with that, agree that it was wrong, and learn how God forgives those who acknowledge it.

The enemy of our souls wants to extinguish that life, hope, and purpose God has authored.

We don’t know what that baby may be, but that child is brimming with possibilities to solve, perhaps from the hand of God, many of the evils of our age.

Give life a chance! Let’s be a real sanctuary for those in need!

GOLD MEDALIST CELEBRATED AT ALL AMERICAN FORD IN OLD BRIDGE always eager to greet customers

Anyone familiar with All American Ford in Old Bridge knows it is a family owned and operated dealership that goes above and beyond not only for its customers, but for its employees as well. Recently, one employee celebrated a significant accomplishment and his All American family was there to rally behind him. On June 7, Nicholas Zellin, an All American Service Support employee, won the gold medal in the 25-yard freestyle swimming event at the Special Olympics USA Games. In addition to winning a gold medal, Nick earned a silver medal in the 4 x 25-yard freestyle relay. When

asked about his highlight of the event, Nick said, “My favorite part of the meet is cheering on my friends.” This reflects his outgoing personality, as he is

Last week, the All American staff held a victory parade for Nick to celebrate his accomplishments.

The dealership created signs and gathered together outside with confetti poppers and noise makers. One of Nick’s closest friends at the dealership, Hunter Allen, drove Nick through the parade in a convertible Bronco.

Once they arrived to the front of the dealership, every All American employee was on hand to cheer for him and to celebrate his achievements.

Marketing Director and Subaru Sales Manager, Jason Savino said, “We’re always so proud and happy to encourage our employees to reach their goals in and out of work, and Nick really went above and beyond with this achievement. He’s a great individual & employee to have here, and we couldn’t have been happier to help celebrate”.

Let your existing cat and new cat sniff each other under the door. After several days of exchanging cat beds so they become familiar with other’s scent, confine your original cat and let your new cat explore your home.

Observe for any aggressive behavior.

Once this is done several times, you can put the new cat in a carrier and let the original cat come in contact with him to sniff and make visual contact.

This allows a certain level of comfort to be reached between the two cats.

LOCAL STREET DEDICATED TO BELOVED OLD BRIDGE RESIDENT perched above the green street signs. “Sal, you could truly say, made Cheesequake Woods a better place,” Mayor Henry said.

The idea for the sign came from neighbor Dan Curry, who wanted to show his thanks and appreciation for everything Mazzella brought to the community from welcoming everyone to the neighborhood, helping to lead the homeowners association and initiating many events and activities, running canned food drives, or simply chatting with passers-by while working in his yard.

Old Bridge Township posthumously honored Cheesequake Woods resident Salvatore Mazzella in a ceremonial unveiling of a street sign bearing his name at the corner of Gulfstream Boulevard and Hallandale Drive. Mazzella, who passed away on April 17 at age 81, resided at that corner for over forty-four years. There he raised four children with his wife Susan. Old Bridge Mayor Owen Henry and those gathered, including many friends and neighbors, Mazzella’s children and their families, and several Old Bridge Council members, cheered as Sal’s grandchildren pulled off the cover to reveal a blue sign reading “Sal Mazzella Way”
