With support from the College Board, the school hosted an awards ceremony to bring families, educators, and community members together. The College Board’s National Recognition Program, available on Big Future, honors high-achieving students in grades 10 and 11 who maintain a B+ average or higher and demonstrate strong performance on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or AP Exams. The program helps students stand out during college recruitment and admissions cycles. College Board representatives presented National Recognition Program award certificates to students and shared remarks celebrating their accomplishments and future aspirations. Students were honored in one or more categories, including the School Recognition Award, First Generation Recognition Award, and Rural & Small Town Recognition Award.

MESSAGE BY MAYOR WALKER Dear Old Bridge Residents, It’s hard to believe I am already ending my second year as Mayor. I am very grateful to all our residents for their support and encouragement thus far, Debbie Walker and I look forward to continuing to make great progress in 2026. We also pledge to continue providing outstanding essential services. Our excellent Police Department will have the equipment and manpower necessary to ensure resident safety. Public Safety is always our number one priority for our residents. Our Public Works and Recycling Departments will ensure that roads are maintained and plowed quickly and will continue to enhance our recycling services being offered, while our Building and Code Enforcement Departments guarantee that our structures are safe. As I look ahead, there are several initiatives that I hope to expand upon in the coming year. We are committed to Business Development, work hard to ensure the success of our hundreds of local merchants, and guarantee that our residents have

desirable businesses available to them. We will continue to aggressively pursue bringing more top merchants and needed establishments to Old Bridge. I would like to thank all our youth sports volunteers. Old Bridge is a very large sports town, and we rely on this volunteerism of parents and guardians for the success and longevity of our programs. These board members and coaches that volunteer numerous hours of their time on a year-round basis to ensure that the children not only have a good time while playing the sport, but develop a lifelong love of that sport, is what makes our town a great place to live. Our Recreation and Cultural Arts Departments will keep enhancing their programs and special events in 2026, offering a wide array of activities. The Recreation Department’s winter program guide is now available for viewing and there is plenty to do during the season. For more information, please visit oldbridge.com/recreation. Also, Silver Linings at Old Bridge has grown into one of the state’s most highly respected Senior Centers and strives to offer innovative programs and services that our active seniors desire, with an emphasis on health, wellness, and socializing. Furthermore, my heartfelt appreciation Continue on page 12

YOUR VOICE IN TRENTON By Senator Owen Henry As we turn the page to a new year, I want to begin by wishing all residents of Old Bridge a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. May 2026 bring joy, peace, and fulfillment to you and your families. The start of a new year is always a time of anticipation—a moment to look forward, to reflect on where we’ve been, and to set goals for where we want to go. It is a season of renewal, a chance to recommit ourselves to living with purpose and striving toward becoming the best versions of ourselves. I encourage each of us to set inspirational goals: to be good, kind, and compassionate to our fellow man; to treat one another with respect and dignity; and to seek ways to grow as human beings. These are not just personal aspirations—they are the foundation of a stronger, more united community. As your Senator, I too have set goals for the year ahead. I aim to become a better senator, serving you with dedication and integrity. I strive to be a better father and grandfather, cherishing the gift of family. And I seek to be a better citizen, contrib-

uting positively to the world around me. Ultimately, it is our collective goal to become a better mankind in the new year. Together, through kindness, compassion, and shared responsibility, we can build a brighter future for Old Bridge and beyond. Let us step into 2026 with hope, determination, and commitment to one another. Senator Owen Henry

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR REPORT

As we close out 2025, I am proud to reflect on the progress the Township of Old Bridge has made over the past year. Through careful planning, fiscal discipline, and a continued Anahita Feltz focus on the needs Business of our residents, we Administrator delivered meaningful improvements while maintaining a strong financial foundation for our community. One of our most important accomplishments in 2025 was the affirmation of Old Bridge’s Aa1 bond rating, along with the assignment of an MIG1 short-term rating. These ratings reflect the Township’s strong financial position, conservative budgeting practices, and proven access to the financial markets. For residents, this recognition reinforces that we are managing taxpayer dollars responsibly and positioning the Township for long-term stability. Public safety and essential services remained a priority throughout the year. We replaced the Emergency Services paging system, ensuring reliable communication for first responders. We also restored the

cardboard recycling program at our Recycling Center, making it easier for residents to recycle and support environmental goals. Our parks and community facilities saw significant investment in 2025. New pavilions were completed at Geick Park and Cottrell Park, creating improved gathering spaces for families and events. A new irrigation system was installed at the Higgins Soccer Complex. We addressed critical infrastructure needs by installing new roofs at Camp ROBIN, Veterans’ Park, and the Arena. The Arena also received interior upgrades, including new furnishings, monitors, paint, enhancing the experience for users. Roadway projects also moved forward through our annual resurfacing program and other improvements, including drainage and curbing, funded through grants and capital resources. Looking ahead to 2026, we are advancing an ambitious slate of capital and recreation projects. Plans include continued roadway work, replacement of Geick Park’s synthetic turf, an upgraded natural-grass ballfield, a new inclusive playground, and major upgrades. These projects reflect our shared commitment to fiscal responsibility, quality public services, and continued investment in the community we all call home.

RECONSIDERING BLOCK SCHEDULING By Paul Pscolka

Me: “So… which was higher on your baseline SAT—reading/ writing or math?” Student: “Reading/ writing. I haven’t had math for a year.” Unfortunately, this conversation happens far too often—and block scheduling is the culprit. Block scheduling means students take fewer classes per semester, but for longer periods, typically 80–90 minutes. On paper, it has real benefits. Students can dive more deeply into subjects, manage fewer classes at once, build stronger relationships with teachers, and experience a schedule that feels more like college. However, when it comes to college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT, block scheduling creates challenges that parents should understand—especially regarding math. Because courses are completed in a single semester, students often experience long gaps between sequential classes. This is particularly problematic for cumulative subjects such as math, science, foreign languages, and writing. Furthermore, missing even one day of class can mean missing the

equivalent of two traditional periods. For the SAT, timing matters. A student may take geometry or algebra 2 first half sophomore year and not sit for the SAT until March, May, or June of junior year—13 to 16 months after their last math class if a student does not take math junior year. A student who takes algebra 2 late in junior year will have less algebra 2 exposure by the March SAT than a peer in a year-long course. Families aiming for 3 test dates (March, May, June), and the first to submit early applications, face tough choices: test with limited math preparation or delay testing. It can be a serious disadvantage to take a test that assumes recent familiarity with strategies and formulas—some of which are not on the reference sheet. Block scheduling has advantages, but without careful planning and intentional SAT prep, the math gap can quietly lower scores on half the exam. For college-bound students, scheduling matters as much as strategy. Questions about timing, class vs private, virtual vs in-person lessons? THE RIGHT THING

Living Stones by Lloyd Pulley, Senior Pastor, Calvary Chapel Old Bridge

A new year stretches out before us, and already many resolutions are fading. We are quick to look for a cure-all—a new habit, a new expert, a new promise that will finally fix what feels broken inside. That search leaves us vulnerable, because the problem runs far deeper than motivation or discipline. At the foundation of life are only two worldviews: either we were created by an intelligent God, or we are the product of chance—an accidental collision of molecules. But chance cannot explain meaning! Molecules do not wonder why they exist—people do. And when life feels meaningless, anxiety and depression rush in. We see it everywhere in our generation. Many of us pushed through the holidays with smiles, even while family division, cultural tension, and political strain made “home for the holidays” far heavier than we imagined. Sentiment carried us for a season—but sentiment cannot sustain us. What has always set the Bible apart is not

only its historical reliability, but its moral beauty. It calls us to love, serve, forgive, and care for others—while confronting our selfishness, pride, and greed. Then comes Jesus, the center of it all. Born humbly, choosing ordinary people, living unlike any leader before Him, and finally laying down His life for us. Even as He was crucified, He prayed, “Father, forgive them.” Our nation once revered God’s truth, yet today we are more divided than ever. History shows that the people who changed the world were never focused on themselves. Today, the right thing is to say this clearly: forgiveness and redemption are found in one place—the cross of Jesus Christ. There, perfect justice and perfect mercy met. He bore our sin so that all who believe may be forgiven, restored, and welcomed as children of God!

HOLIDAY SEASON AT REFORMED CHURCH At The Reformed Church Home, December is a season of radiant joy where we transform our community into a festive wonderland for our residents. This year, the holiday spirit is shining brighter than ever as we celebrate with cherished traditions and new memories. The month kicked off with pure delight during a visit from Anna’s World of Minis. In partnership with Home Watch Caregivers, we brought the magic of the farm indoors, introducing our residents to a gentle pony and several sweet sheep. The smiles on our residents' faces as they petted these animals were truly priceless, offering a unique therapeutic experience that captured the wonder of the season. Creativity has also been at the heart of our celebrations. Our residents spent afternoons crafting personalized, memorable Christmas cards to send to loved ones, ensuring they stay connected with family during this special time. We were also deeply moved by the students from Amber-Ambrose Elementary School. Their heartwarming outreach and caring gestures toward our residents remind us all of the beautiful bond between genera-

tions and the true meaning of community. For those who enjoy the sweeter side of the holidays, our very own Sharon shared her expert "tips and tricks" for creating beautiful, festive cookies. From intricate icing techniques to classic holiday flavors, these baking sessions filled the halls with the aroma of sugar and spice. Our campus is currently "shining bright" thanks to our extensive holiday decorations. Every corner of The Reformed Church Home is adorned with twinkling lights and greenery, providing a warm, festive backdrop for our residents. Finally, we invite everyone to support our holiday spirit at our annual Christmas Craft Sale, featuring handmade items that celebrate the season. This December, we are proud to honor our residents by making every moment merry and bright.
