SHADE TREE COMMISSION HOSTS ARBOR DAY EVENT

ed free saplings of Swamp Oak, Bur Oak, Chestnut Oak and Black Walnut. The Shade Tree Commission also planted a Cherry Tree on the front Lawn of Borough Hall. This tree was dedicated to the winners of the Commission annual poster contest held at Ravine Drive School. Entrants create posters on “Why Trees Matter”. The Commission judges and choses winners from each grade. Winners receive their names on the tree dedication plaque and receive a $25 gift Card. This year winners were Aiden Duder, Lyla Feiles, Morgan Biancone, and Mya Walden. The event ended with Mayor Altomonte reading the Boroughs Arbor Proclamation. Tree saplings are still available and can be picked up In the Borough Hall Lobby.
On April 29, 2023 the Matawan Shade Tree Commission held their annual Arbor Day Event. The rainy weather was great for trees but forced the event inside this year.
