The event will feature a 3.1 mile run through Matawan NJ on July 29th beginning at 9am on Main Street. This event is a fundraiser to benefit the Matawan Regional High School Drama Musical Theatre Program. This run will pay tribute to the Jersey Shore shark attacks that took place in July 1916. Five people were attacked and only one survived. These attacks led to the novel and movie “Jaws”. Although tragic, the Matawan community came together during this time and the shark attacks are a reminder of the heroic acts and the community. Globally, the events in Matawan during the summer of 1916 would forever change
Runners and walkers are invited to attend and partake in the day’s activities which include a 5K run/walk and a postrace gathering with donuts, coffee, sharks and more. A shark and donut themed medal will be given to each participant along with a delicious donut courtesy of Main Street Donuts in Matawan.
The 5K is presented by Main Street Donuts in Matawan, New Jersey and is produced by Live Run Give LLC. Joe Rizzuto owner of Main Street Donuts and Matawan resident says, “Matawan is such an incredible community and I’m proud to not only be a resident but to be a business owner here in town. We created this event to not only highlight the unique history of Matawan but to support an amazing local musical theater program.”
5K Runners will assemble at 9:00 am and run or walk through the streets of Matawan passing the “Maneater Mural” on Aberdeen Rd. Finisher’s medal and a donut will be given to each registered participant.
