Dearest Dove Valley Neighbors,

This April marks the very first edition of Dove Valley Living Magazine. In our inaugural issue, we are honored to feature the Satterblom family and their journey of sharing faith, friendship, and conversations over a simple cup of coffee.

We are also proud to introduce the many local sponsors who made this publication possible. Their support allows us to highlight people, stories, businesses and shine a light on the good all around us. April is a season of renewal. As we celebrate Earth Month, we also explore themes of wellness, women in leadership, and springing into healthy habits - not only for our bodies, but for our homes and our community as well.

Spring brings new beginnings, blooming flowers, and fresh opportunities to connect. We are grateful to expand the good news and positive stories to Dove Valley, and we look forward to growing alongside this wonderful community.

With gratitude,

WHY BANZERINI HOUSE ACADEMY

EXPERIENCE THE CIRCUIT AT YOGA COLD BATH: Arizona's Premier Contrast Therapy Studio

If you are looking for a recovery and wellness experience unlike anything else in the Southwest, look no further than Yoga Cold Bath in Glendale, Arizona, home to the largest ice bath studio in the state. At the heart of what they offer is their signature circuit, a carefully designed contrast therapy experience that blends ancient wellness traditions with modern recovery science. The circuit is built around contrast therapy, a practice that alternates between hot and cold treatments to reduce pain, inflammation, and promote recovery. Research published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research confirms that contrast water therapy significantly reduces delayed onset muscle soreness and accelerates recovery between training sessions.

The circuit begins with yoga, which is not simply a warm-up. Studies show that regular yoga practice reduces cortisol levels, increases flexibility, and improves joint range of motion, making the body more receptive to the therapies that follow.

From yoga, guests move into the sauna or hot mineral bath. Heat exposure activates heat shock proteins that repair damaged cells and stimulates the release of growth hormone, according to research from the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. The warmth also dilates blood vessels, priming circulation for what comes next.

Red and Green light therapy add another powerful layer. Research published in the journal Photomedicine and Laser Surgery found that red light wavelengths between 630 and 850 nanometers penetrate deep tissue, reduce inflammation, and accelerate cellular repair. Green light therapy rounds out the experience with equally compelling science. A clinical study from the University of Arizona found that green light exposure produced a roughly 60 percent reduction in pain intensity and headache frequency in migraine sufferers. Published research in The Journal of Pain also confirmed that green light reduces inflammation in the nervous system, including pathways linked to anxiety and depression.

The circuit concludes with the cold plunge. Cold water immersion triggers norepinephrine release, a hormone that reduces inflammation and sharpens mental focus, with studies showing norepinephrine increases of up to 300 percent after cold exposure.

Whether you are recovering from intense training or simply seeking a full-body reset, the circuit at Yoga Cold Bath delivers a science-backed, multi-modality approach to wellness that works from the inside out.

Banzerini House Academy is not just another theatre program. It is a place where young artists are challenged to grow, create, and discover what they are capable of.

Students who train at Banzerini House step into a world of storytelling. They learn how to bring characters to life, work as an ensemble, and develop the confidence it takes to stand in front of an audience or camera and truly perform.

Our academy offers training in acting, film, musical theatre, dance, and audition technique. Students do not simply sit in a classroom. They learn by doing. Throughout the season they participate in live productions, film projects, and performance opportunities that push them to develop real skills.

We believe young people rise to the level of expectation placed in front of them. When students are treated like artists, they begin to see themselves as artists. They learn discipline, commitment, creativity, and the courage to take risks.

Banzerini House is also a community. Students build friendships, learn teamwork, and become part of a creative environment where imagination is encouraged, and hard work is celebrated.

Whether a student dreams of performing on stage or screen or simply wants a place to grow in confidence and creativity, Banzerini House provides a training ground where passion and dedication come together.

The next generation of storytellers begins here. Now enrolling for the 2026 to 2027 season.

THE SATTERBLOM FAMILY

Faith, Family, and Finding Community in Dove Valley

WHENKARL AND Erica Satterblom first called the North Valley home in 1999, Anthem was still a brand-new community surrounded by desert and mountain views. The Dove Valley area was wide open, defined by space, quiet, and the beauty of the desert landscape.

After several years in Alberta, Canada, they returned in 2008 to find the area beginning to grow. Development had filled in some of the once wide-open desert, and they initially settled near the 101. But when their realtor suggested heading a little farther north, everything shifted. “We loved the openness,” Karl says. “We loved the nature and the mountains.”

Today, with two older boys living on campus at GCU and the younger two in middle school, the Satterblom household runs on movement and momentum. With four boys in very different seasons of life, Lars (21), Anders (19), Magnus (12), and Soren (10), their home often feels like a revolving door. “Rock climbing, school, youth group, and occasionally we’ll have 20+

GCU kids over. It’s a lot of activities,” Erica laughs. Evenings and Saturdays are also filled with coffee truck events, so maintaining that connection as a family takes care and attention.

“It takes a lot of intentional effort,” Karl explains. “We try to give the older boys enough freedom, but we want them to know they can talk to us.” For Erica, connection is crucial for marriage to work. “Our weekly date nights. We try to always have coffee and debrief at the end of the day. We love our coffee time.”

A shared love language is waking up to a freshly brewed cup prepared the night before.

What they cherish most about raising their children here is the safety and closeness of the community.

“I feel safe here,” Erica says. “Everything is close. Everything we do is here. We see the same people. It’s neighborly.” When asked what home means, Karl answers simply: “Welcoming. Where the kids can bring their friends. Always open.” Erica nods. “We

are the home where everyone seems to congregate. Feeding them dinner, playing pool, swimming, lots of sleepovers. We’ve always had an open house. A place to gather.”

For Karl, faith naturally weaves into both their daily life and their business. “With the truck, people bring God and faith up all the time,” he says. “I have anywhere from three to seven conversations a day about God. It's a ministry. People ask me to pray for them.” Before each shift, Karl and the baristas pray together and for the people they will serve. At home, their boys see that same faith lived out through Scripture reading and Bible studies.

Raising four boys across such different ages hasn’t come without sacrifice. “For a long time it was burning both ends of the candle,” Karl says. “Up late with the older kids and then early with the little ones. You’re exhausted, but it is worth it.” Erica is mindful of the balance between brothers. “The little ones look up to the older ones. But you don’t want to put

pressure on the older ones to be a parent. We try to understand where they are coming from. And we learn.”

Their core values are clear. “Of course faith,” Erica says. “Really loving the Lord. Honor God and be honest with integrity.” “Diligence and consistency,” Karl adds. “Do everything the best that you can do. Don’t compare.”

The idea for starting a coffee truck began in Maui. “We passed a lot of food trucks on our way to the beach and the road to Hana,” Karl remembers. “I said, ‘Erica, we should start a coffee truck." “He always has a lot of ideas,” Erica laughs, “but this one stuck.” From that small idea, The Hook Coffee Truck was born.

Soon after, a former panini truck became available and needed little configuration. By October 2023 it was theirs. By November it was wrapped and ready. They learned espresso in their laundry room using a 220 plug for the machine, setting it on top of the dryer. Experienced barista friends gave lessons, lots of videos, and they learned quickly how to make great coffee. Their favorite part has been experimenting with and creating new drinks. Just four months into business, their generator was stolen while still getting off the ground. It was discouraging, but they trusted the Lord and pressed on.

Adventure has always been part of their story. As a girl, Erica always looked for a good tree to climb and went outdoor climbing on early dates

with Karl. Years later, when Lars was 12 and inspired by American Ninja Warrior, he declared he wanted to pursue climbing more than any other sport out there. Soon all four boys were climbing, including Soren, who harnessed up at just two years old. They’ve trained, competed, and even worked at Gecko Climbing Gym, gaining strength, skill, and perseverance.

“If you’re not doing well during a competition, you still have to finish,” Erica says. “They’ve learned not to quit.” Climbing culture surprised them most. “Our kids are on the same team, but they are not competing against each other,” Erica explains. “They encourage each other in a way we had not seen in their other sports. It does not matter who is climbing. There is no age barrier. Everyone is cheering for each other. It bridges a gap.”

As Lars and Anders step into adulthood, their parents reflect with gratitude. “They lead Bible studies. They lead people. They are mature beyond their years,” Erica says. “I agree,” Karl adds. “They have taken on leadership roles and are mentors. But we’ve also had to encourage them to step back sometimes and learn boundaries.”

For Magnus and Soren, their hope is simple. “I hope they hold on to the promise that God is always with them,” Erica says. “Life can be busy and chaotic, but the moments when we slow down and simply spend time together matter. I hope they remember the times when all the brothers are together and learn to cherish that.”

If the Satterblom family had a motto, it would be this:

“Outdo each other with kindness. Look for those chances to serve.”

And in their Dove Valley home, with coffee brewing and doors always open, that culture of encouragement, connection, faith, and community is exactly how they live every day.

Even to the employed doing everything right. We offer a hand up, not a handout.

When the unexpected happens.

OUTDOOR DESIGN CHICK : Blurring the Lines Between Indoor and Outdoor Living

WHENYOU STEP into a backyard designed by Outdoor Design Chick, you’re not just entering an outdoor space, you’re stepping into an intentional extension of the home. Founded in 2023 by Arizona native Meagen Lenhart, Outdoor Design Chick transforms the way people live, entertain, and connect by blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.

For Meagen, this vision is deeply personal. “My passion has always been outdoor design. I loved the business but was tired of making everyone else’s dream come true. I wanted to bring the dreams of my clients to fruition through my own vision,” she says.

Born and raised in Peoria, Meagen grew up surrounded by Arizona’s stunning desert landscapes, learning how to translate their textures, colors, and light into modern design. Her understanding of how homes interact with the natural environment gives her projects an effortless flow, merging indoor comfort with outdoor serenity.

Her professional journey began at seventeen in swimming pool design and construction. Over time, she gained hands on experience in drafting, permitting, construction, and design, building the foundation for what would eventually become her own creative brand.

“I remember being so fried, driving over two hours to and from work, squeezing in time to make the logo for Outdoor Design Chick,” she recalls. “I thought I needed the structure of working for a company, but I realized I had all of that within myself. I have a natural drive and passion for the business. As a woman in construction, I had to trailblaze my own way.”

That drive is evident in every project. Outdoor Design Chick focuses on remodels, landscapes, and new construction, guiding clients from vision to transformation with artistry and precision. Whether refreshing an outdated pool area, integrating modern hardscapes and lush plant palettes, or designing a full outdoor living

environment from the ground up, Meagen approaches each project as an opportunity to craft connection and flow. Sliding doors open to seamless patio extensions, shaded dining areas, fire features, and gathering spaces that feel like a natural continuation of the home.

“I’m very collaborative,” Meagen says with a smile. “I want to know all your thoughts and ideas. I want to learn you, because this is your sacred space. It’s where you spend most of your time and gather with friends and family. Being intentional with how you use your space is key and helps us determine how we can bring that to life.”

Her process begins with understanding how clients truly live. From there, Outdoor Design Chick uses innovative 3D renderings, thoughtful material pairing, and structural coordination to create outdoor spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. “As I got started, I already had the software knowledge and creativity. I ended up designing my own backyard and we brought that to life,” she says. “Designing my own space made me realize I can do this and really enjoy having the creative freedom to bring the vision to life.”

Meagen’s work goes far beyond technical design. It is rooted in community and connection. “I go against the grain and bring new and fresh ideas to the industry. Being native to the area, I’m not just outdoor services, I can be the conduit into many other areas of design,” she explains. “I have the connections and reputable people in the industry that can be relied upon to produce a great product.”

That collaborative spirit shapes how she runs her business. “We pride ourselves on being genuine and authentic. Construction has a stigma of being notoriously difficult and we work hard to bring the old school traditions into the modern times.” Her enthusiasm for the transformation process is contagious. “I love the material side, demo is exciting. We’re blowing up your yard and we’re going to make it brand new and beautiful. I have a passion for each phase of the project.”

Looking ahead, Meagen’s goals are as ambitious as her designs. “My goal is to design a million backyards. I really do want to touch a million lives. It’s amazing to see the end result, the transformation. To intentionally change people’s back yards and their lives, how can I be that light. I want to continue to foster my relationships with industry

“I’m very collaborative… I want to know all your thoughts and ideas.”

contacts. Trusted relationships are invaluable in this industry.”

From Dove Valley to Peoria and beyond, Outdoor Design Chick is redefining what it means to live beautifully and intentionally in Arizona, one backyard at a time. With an eye for design, a heart for collaboration, and a mission to merge comfort and creativity, Meagen Lenhart is proving that outdoor spaces can be just as inviting and inspiring as the homes they surround.

PAETON DESKIN: LEAD INJECTOR AT ALANI SKIN MD

FORPAETON, THE path into aesthetic medicine began long before she ever picked up a syringe. While still in high school, she worked at Premier Wellness MedSpa and quickly discovered something that would shape her future. “I just fell in love with the industry,” she says. “Helping people feel like the best version of themselves and enhancing their natural beauty really resonated with me.” That early experience sparked her interest in healthcare and eventually led her into nursing. Her time working in the emergency room helped shape the provider she is today, strengthening her ability to handle pressure while deepening her understanding of the human body.

Determined to build a strong foundation, Paeton pursued extensive training in dermal fillers, botox, and advanced aesthetic treatments, including hands-on courses and cadaver training alongside renowned plastic surgeons. “Learning anatomy at that level helps you become the safest injector possible while still creating beautiful, natural outcomes,” she explains.

For Paeton, aesthetic medicine sits at the intersection of science and artistry. The first time she injected during training, the path forward became clear. “I just knew this was what I was meant to do,” she says. “There’s so much art and science behind it. You’re combining the artistic side with the medical side.” Her approach centers on facial balance and natural-looking results. “It’s really important to understand anatomy and how the face ages,” she explains. “The goal is always balance and results that look natural.”

While lip filler remains one of the most requested treatments, she says most patients today want subtle enhancements. She also sees growing interest in treatments that improve overall skin quality, especially in Arizona where sun exposure can accelerate skin damage.

As aesthetic medicine grows in popularity, Paeton encourages patients to do their research. “Don’t believe everything you see on social media,” she says. “Find a provider who invests in education and training and stays up to date.” Having graduated from Boulder Creek High School, the community already feels like home. “It’s been amazing to plant myself here,” she says. “This community really raised me.”

Looking ahead, Paeton is excited about the continued evolution of aesthetic medicine and the opportunity to grow her practice in the new Alani Skin MD, a brand that is recognized across the valley and newly coming to Anthem. “Aesthetic treatments are a journey,” she says. “My goal is to build trust and guide patients toward natural, balanced results.” For Paeton, the journey from a high school wellness job to becoming an injector in her hometown has come full circle - helping people feel confident in their own skin, one treatment at a time.

“No,”Becky says with a laugh when asked if Auto care was always the plan.

“I guess it started when Steve went to automotive school 22 years ago. I worked full-time to support us, and then it all just evolved naturally. Once I saw his potential, it became our family mission.”

What began as supporting her husband’s dream grew into something much bigger. “It was his dream, and I supported it. He is literally one of the best European mechanics in the area. It’s a passion - we love it. And I am learning alongside him.” Together, they built not just a business, but a shared purpose.

Becky believes women bring something truly powerful to the automotive space - especially in an industry that has long been male-dominated. She points to qualities like approachability, conversation, and the ability to create comfort as essential strengths.

WOMEN WHO LEAD

Becky Goodwillie

Women in Autocare | Strength in Business & Life

“Women are often intimidated by the automotive field - whether it’s something as simple as an oil change or as major as new tires,” she explains. “It’s important to have women in the shop who can make other women feel comfortable, heard, and confident that they’re not being taken advantage of.” Becky actively mentors and connects with other women through bi-monthly Women in Autocare Zoom calls, encouraging collaboration instead of competition. Her advice to overwhelmed women? “Reach out for support from one another.” Creating that comfort starts with simple human connection. “When women come into the shop, I talk with them about more than just their cars. We connect on many other things, our families, struggles, wins, and joys”

Her journey, however, has not been without hardship. A challenging health diag

nosis changed the whole trajectory of her life, both personally and professionally. “We had a lot of community and family support, and Steve got me through it,” she shares. The hardest part? “The mental load of being sick, I found myself in a place where I couldn’t do what I’ve always done.”

But that season reshaped her perspective. “It taught me that you can come back. It’s not the end - you get to start over.” And she remembers the moment she realized her strength: “At the end of my month-long hospital stay - I realized that did it, I survived.”

In many ways, that experience became the catalyst for entrepreneurship. “That is the reason why we opened the shop. We realized that life is short - why keep working for someone else? Let’s go all in.”

Balancing business ownership and motherhood, she says candidly, “It looks like chaos. It looks like a lot of working on my laptop in the school pickup line.” But it also means flexibility - the freedom of chaperoning school field trips, class parties, and being able to take family vacations. “We didn’t get to do that while he worked at the dealership.”

The values she models for her children are simple: “Honesty and integrity.” The legacy she hopes to leave is both personal and professional. “In my family, I hope to leave a legacy that you can do it all. I want our kids to do everything. In business, I hope we create a change in the way shops are run.”

What’s next?

“Growth. With even more technicians.” And with that quiet confidence, Becky continues building something bigger than a shop - she’s building community, courage, and change.

The Natural Choice This Earth Day How Pure Desert Organic Pest Control Is Changing the Game

THE DESERT Southwest, pests are simply part of life. From scorpions and ants to roaches and rodents, the struggle is real. But what if you could protect your home without coating it in harsh toxic chemicals? As Earth Day reminds us each year, the small choices we make at home can have a big impact on the environment, including how we handle pests.

Celebrating one year in business, Pure Desert Organic Pest Control was founded on a simple belief; effective pest control does not have to come at the expense of your family, pets, or the planet.

Based in Cave Creek, Arizona, the company specializes in 100 percent natural pest management solutions designed to protect families and pets while reducing environmental impact. Their approach focuses on delivering effective, lasting results while giving homeowners true peace of mind.

While synthetic pesticides can quickly knock down pest populations, that speed often comes with tradeoffs, including strong chemical odors and lingering residues. As more homeowners grow cautious about chemical exposure, especially around children and pets, many are seeking a safer alternative. Organic pest control offers a more modern and balanced approach. Naturally derived, low toxicity products are combined with integrated pest management techniques. The goal is to target pests precisely while minimizing unnecessary exposure inside and around the home. When done correctly and paired with proper exclusion, habitat reduction, and maintenance, modern organic pest control is highly effective.

Pure Desert Organic Pest Control has built its reputation by leading with education. Their technicians begin by identifying why pests are present, then work to seal entry points, apply targeted natural treatments, and create long term prevention plans tailored to each property. A shift away from the outdated spray and pray model. Organic pest control directly addresses those concerns without sacrificing performance.

Desert environments demand specialized knowl edge. The Southwest presents unique challenges, especially with scorpions, packrats, persistent ant colonies, and seasonal mosquito activity. Local expertise makes a measurable difference.

This Earth Day, more homeowners are recognizing that effective pest control and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. Pure Desert Organic Pest Control is helping lead that shift, proving every day that you do not need harsh chemicals to keep pests under control, just smarter, more thoughtful solutions that protect your home, family and pets, and the world just outside your door.

FOR

DECADES, STRENGTH training was often viewed as something primarily for men or elite athletes. Many women were encouraged to focus mainly on cardio or to lift very light weights out of concern that heavier training would cause them to “bulk up.” Modern research and experience tell a different story. Strength training is one of the most effective ways for women to improve long-term physical health, mental well-being, and confidence. Strength training, or resistance training, involves exercises that make muscles work against resistance such as free weights, machines, resistance bands, or body weight. The goal is to challenge muscles so they gradually become stronger through consistent progression. Over time, small increases in resistance or repetitions lead to meaningful improvements in strength and fitness.

One of the most common misconceptions is that lifting weights makes women bulky. In reality, women generally have lower testosterone levels than men, making large muscle growth unlikely without specialized training and nutrition. Instead, strength training typically builds lean muscle, improves body composition, enhances natural

Strength Training for

WOMEN: Benefits Beyond Physical Appearance

shape, and increases overall strength. It also boosts metabolism because muscle tissue burns more energy than fat, helping the body burn more calories throughout the day and making long-term weight management more sustainable.

Strength training is also essential for bone health. Women face an increased risk of osteoporosis as they age, especially after menopause. Resistance training strengthens bones, joints, and connective tissue, helping reduce the risk of fractures and supporting long-term mobility. It also improves hormonal and metabolic health by supporting insulin sensitivity and more stable energy levels.

Beyond physical health, strength training improves functional strength - the ability to perform everyday activities with ease. Tasks such as carrying groceries, lifting children, climbing stairs, and maintaining good posture become easier and safer. Increased strength also helps reduce the risk of injury and supports independence later in life.

The mental and emotional benefits are equally important. Strength training can help reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression by stimulating mood-supporting chemicals in the brain. Many

women find that lifting weights provides a sense of focus and stress relief. Confidence also grows through measurable progress, such as lifting heavier weights or mastering new movements, helping women develop trust in their bodies and abilities.

Women benefit from strength training at every stage of life. In early adulthood, it helps build muscle and establish healthy habits. In midlife, it helps counter age-related muscle loss and maintain energy levels. Later in life, it supports balance, mobility, and independence – as research showing benefits for memory, focus, and long-term brain function. Although muscle naturally declines with age, consistent strength training can significantly slow this process.

Strength training does not require excessive time in the gym. Two to four structured sessions per week can provide significant benefits. While combining strength training with cardiovascular exercise produces the best overall results, consistency matters more than intensity. Ultimately, strength training is not just about appearance. It is about building strength, resilience, and confidence that support a healthier and more capable life.

thank you, UNLOCKING YOUTH: The Benefits of Peptides for Anti-Aging & Longevity

In the quest for a longer, healthier life, peptides have emerged as a promising frontier in wellness and regenerative medicine. These short chains of amino acids act as signaling molecules in the body, influencing everything from cellular repair to hormone regulation. Unlike larger proteins, peptides are smaller and more easily absorbed, making them ideal for therapeutic applications. While research is ongoing, evidence suggests they offer significant benefits for antiaging and longevity, from revitalizing skin to supporting metabolic health.

One of the most celebrated advantages of peptides lies in their anti-aging effects on the skin. As we age, collagen production declines, leading to wrinkles, sagging, and loss of elasticity. Certain peptides, such as GHK-Cu, stimulate collagen synthesis, promoting firmer, more youthful skin. Studies show they can reduce fine lines and improve texture by enhancing the skin’s natural repair processes. Beyond cosmetics, peptides like copper tripeptide provide antioxidant protection, neutralizing free radicals that accelerate cellular damage. This not only combats visible signs of aging but also supports overall dermal health, making peptides a staple in modern skincare and aesthetic treatments.

Peptides also play a key role in preserving muscle mass and vitality, countering age-related decline. Conditions like sarcopenia; loss of muscle strength, can be mitigated by peptides that boost growth hormone levels, such as sermorelin or ipamorelin. These compounds enhance muscle growth, improve recovery from exercise or injury, and increase energy levels. For instance, BPC-157 and TB-500 are noted for accelerating tissue repair, which is crucial for maintaining physical function as we grow older.

Additionally, peptides improve sleep quality by regulating hormones, leading to better recovery and cognitive sharpness, essential for an active lifestyle. When it comes to longevity, peptides go deeper, targeting the biological hallmarks of aging. They modulate pathways involved in metabolism, inflammation, and nutrient sensing, potentially extending healthy lifespan. Bioactive peptides reduce oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, which contribute to diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular issues. Compounds like thymosin alpha-1 bolster immune function, helping the body fend off age-related vulnerabilities.

Research in animal models and databases like AagingBase highlights how dietary or therapeutic peptides influence insulin resistance and protein signaling, key factors in aging. Peptides such as NAD+ precursors support cellular energy production, aiding in DNA repair and mitochondrial health. However, while the benefits are compelling, peptides aren’t a miracle cure. At Desert Health and Wellness, we approach each patient individually, tailoring a regimen to your needs, responsibly and used under supervision. These peptides can complement a holistic approach to wellness, including diet, exercise, and stress management. Peptides represent a science-backed tool for enhancing anti-aging and longevity. By fostering repair, reducing inflammation, and optimizing bodily functions, they help us not just live longer, but thrive with vitality. Here at Desert Health and Wellness, we are watching and studying the evolving research in peptides, and their role in personalized medicine could redefine healthy aging.
