TRUSTPOINT

ELECTRIC & AIR IS HERE TO SERVE!

At TrustPoint Electric & Air, our commitment to quality service has fostered a loyal customer base that continues to return. What sets us apart is our team, whose dedication ensures friendly, reliable, and top-quality service . This commitment is the cornerstone of our success .

In Arizona, summer has a way of finding every weakness in a home. The first truly hot day is often when homeowners discover their AC is struggling, airflow feels uneven, or their electrical system is under more strain than expected. A little preparation now can go a long way toward keeping your home comfortable when temperatures rise.

A smart place to start is with an AC system tune-up. Seasonal maintenance helps your system run more efficiently, improves performance, and can catch small problems before they become expensive breakdowns. Just as important is an electrical panel capacity check, especially during the summer months when

cooling systems, ceiling fans, and everyday appliances all compete for power.

A thermostat and wiring inspection can also make a big difference in how well your home stays cool. If those connections are not working properly, your comfort and efficiency may suffer. And with ceiling fans and airflow optimization, you can improve circulation, reduce hot spots, and help your AC work a little less.

At TrustPoint Electric and Air, we believe summer comfort starts with making sure your HVAC and electrical systems work together.

Dearest Neighbors,

We are thrilled to serve a new neighborhood and celebrate our featured family —a story of motherhood defined by grace and grit.

May is a season of milestones and celebration. With graduation upon us, we are proud to honor a remarkable young man who has brought music and creativity to the main stage, inspiring those around him with his talent and passion.

We were also excited to sponsor a special event with the Anthem Rotary for our teen girls, creating space for connection, confidence, and fun. As always, we continue our focus on wellness from the inside out, with insights and guidance from many of Anthem’s trusted local professionals. And for those looking to refine their game, we’re highlighting a new place in the community to perfect your golf swing.

As we approach Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who have served our country. It is a time of reflection, gratitude, and unity as we recognize the sacrifices that allow us to enjoy the freedoms and community we cherish today.

Here’s to a vibrant May together.

Warmly,

FAITH + FITNESS with Julie, BFit Chick West Valley Instructor of the Year, Mountainside

FOR44 YEARS, Julie has been leading from the front of the room, long before certifications were required and long before playlists were digital.

"I started teaching in 1982. Back when you brought records and record players to class. Then came the big cassette tapes and we thought that was the big thing. You'd spend hours making one tape."

Fitness wasn't always the master plan. "I had always been active, but I started teaching fitness and loved to work out and wanted to get paid for it." What began as a teenage passion became a lifelong calling, one she proudly notes is "pre-AFAA," teaching even before formal certification existed. Julie worked in fashion for 30 years while still teaching fitness classes, until she left the fashion industry and started BFit Chick.

Now, nearly 60 and 17 years into her time at Mountainside, Julie was named West Valley Instructor of the Year. "To receive that award when I am about to be 60 just proves to me that I am doing God's work and I am right where I am supposed to be. He is still using me to shine His light."

Over the decades, her perspective has shifted from outward appearance to inward strength. "Fitness is not a size or a number on a scale. It's how you feel emotionally, spiritually, and physically in your body. We all have different journeys when we walk through that door. I will be there to meet you right where you are, encouraging you and celebrating with you. You just need to show up for yourself and I will show up for you."

Her faith is woven directly into her classes and into BFit, the program she started after praying about stepping out on her own. "I literally gave it to God. I pray for my classes and for the people that will show up knowing the challenges that happen daily."

She reminds her students that just showing up is a blessing. "You have to be the cheerleader, the motivator, the corrector, the friend. Release the expectations. Celebrate what you did and don't focus on what you didn't do." At the end of every class, students stand and clap for themselves, because everyone deserves a standing ovation.

To Julie, strength means one thing: "Strong means that I can handle anything that God gives me." Her focus for 2026 is simple. "We are going to fix our attitude to gratitude."

You can join her at Mountainside Fitness, through small group or personal training at her home gym, or via 24/7 online fitness classes at www.bfitchick.com.

RISE AND SHINE WOMEN'S CONFERENCE:

Hosted by Anthem Rotary Club

THEANTHEM ROTARY Club recently stepped outside its regular function of putting on charity golf tournaments, selling beer and hotdogs at Anthem Days and Autumn Fest, sponsoring blood drives and toy drives, ringing the Salvation Army Bell, and supporting local food pantries and services for the Veterans. A team of Rotarians planned an inspirational conference for women called, “Rise and Shine.” The day focused on mental health and self-care. It was our goal to boost up every young woman in attendance so she feels more vibrant and self-confident.

We joined forces with Sherry Ecklund who is the founder of “I AM Teen Strong.” This is a nonprofit that provides online support for young women. It has every resource you can think of to support women in confusion or crisis. It has safety networks, health education, referrals for counseling and therapists, and an extensive list of

advocates. Local high school teacher Janay Perone was very instrumental in hosting this event at Boulder Creek. She enrolled the Women’s Advocacy Club in this project.

While the day was specifically designed to inspire female students, women of all ages were welcome. We saw middle schoolers, college students, mothers who wanted to support their daughters, and even a few grandmothers. They all showed up to engage in the conversation about self-care, resilience and body confidence.

Now, an event like this might seem out of the box for Rotary…..and it was! With the recent leadership of Joseph Alvarez, Stacey Sherman, and current president, David Newham, our club continues to think outside of the box of ways to stretch our impact. As an organization, we are extremely active. We consistently ask ourselves where there is a social need, and once we evaluate the scope of the situation, we jump into action.

Each participant was welcomed by our Rotary team. We wore pink shirts and big smiles. After months of planning it was exciting to finally welcome all the guests. It felt like they were all long lost friends. For the Rotarians, a lot of details came together the way a wedding does. There was a welcome table to assign seating, a breakfast table filled with snacks and fruit, a photo booth experience, and a fabulous DJ (Tyler Samms) mixing songs to create a positive vibe. We

© Best Version Media

also had a young music artist named Blue Pond on site to play music for the girls.

Guests were given a lanyard and backpack filled with amazing swag: a water bottle, bracelet, stress ball, a ceramic jewelry caddy, journal with a pen, chapstick, affirmation card, positive stickers, and a pocket mirror. Every item was donated with love by a community sponsor.

The speakers were dynamic. They offered tools and strategies for self-care. In a world where young women are prone to anxiety, care-taking and burn-out, each woman was encouraged to ground herself and make self-care a priority.

• We had Best Selling Author, Sunny Dawn Johnston, talk about self-worth and the importance of listening to our intuition. Sunny empowered the women to take ownership of their attitude. She taught them different strategies to manage their emotions and navigate through uncomfortable social situations. The women also learned how to manage their energy and make decisions from a place of love instead of fear.

• Stacey Sherman talked about a growing crisis among girls…eating disorders. She appealed to their sense of compassion and asked each woman to release criticism and embrace self-acceptance. She discussed the impact of social media on body image. With AI and filters, girls are challenged daily to determine what is real and what is artificial. It’s so complex and as a society we are still learning how to use media responsibly. What we do know is that many teens are becoming depressed and adopting unrealistic standards of beauty. To counter this messaging, we talked about loving ourselves where we are. As much as this message was geared toward the teens, adult women were reminded to find their self-compassion too.

• Former teacher at Boulder Creek turned therapist, Jessica Brubaker, gave the girls awesome strategies to deal with anxiety and student volunteer, Isabella Register, talked about the repercussions of spending too much time on social media. She startled the audience when she reported that teens on average spend seven hours a day scrolling and watching Tik Tok. Imagine what is lost by our addiction to social media. What if those hours were used to write, create art, explore nature, take a class, or volunteer?

• We had an amazing panel of women. The group was organized by Tamera Krause and Jessica Stuart. The panel represented different age groups and offered their perspectives on staying positive and dealing with social challenges. It was powerful!

• The women were delighted when local country music artist Britnee Kellogg closed out the conference with her story and songs. She had her young daughter with her which showcased another side of fame. People are just people. Britnee tied the whole day together. She talked about the pressure to be perfect, the exhaustion of keeping up with social expectations, and what it means to truly love yourself. She was honest and captivating. She referred to her own struggles to find self-love in an industry that focuses on performance and external appearances. Britnee was able to connect with the teens and the moms. She had a heartfelt delivery and she emphasized staying real and true to one’s self.

We know that ALL teenagers are in need of positive influences. There is so much pressure on this younger generation to seek popularity, validation from their peers, and claim some superficial status. However, that presents a lot of anxiety and confusion. The problem is that anything external tends to wear off so teens feel defeated all the time or they are constantly seeking the next big rush. Unless women learn to love themselves from the inside out, there is some extraneous hustle for validation.

For the ladies of Rotary this conference was about building girls up in such a way that they understand their innate value. It is not earned…It just exists. We want women to know their worth and understand that every experience is a mirror for the way they treat themselves. We accomplished what we set out to do. We made women feel special and we dove into deeper conversations that are rarely found in today’s

world. This may have been a different undertaking for the Rotary, but we need more of these types of opportunities for people to learn, bond and grow.

Once again, thank you to our community partners: Anthem Rotary Club, I Am Teen Strong, Boulder Creek High School, Ewa & Sam Rusenovich @ Anthem Living Magazine, David Newham @ North Valley Water Solutions, Todd Ninneman @ ReMax Summit Properties, Manny Chazan @ Work Hard play Hard, By the Bucket, Bearizona, State Farm Insurance, Premier Human Resources, Mid-First Bank and Transitions Counseling & Consulting

Rebecca Wyatt and the Heart Behind ANTHEM TAX & WEALTH A LEGACY IN MOTION

INAN INDUSTRY often defined by numbers, regulations, and bottom lines, Rebecca Wyatt has built something far more enduring—a business rooted in trust, family, and continuity. At the helm of Anthem Tax & Wealth, Rebecca has created not just a firm, but a legacy—one designed to serve clients across generations, just as her own family now stands ready to do.

At Anthem Tax & Wealth, tax planning isn't an afterthought, it's part of a long-term relationship. Our team works closely with clients to reduce surprises, minimize lifetime tax exposure, and bring clarity to complex financial decisions.

Rebecca didn’t set out to simply prepare tax returns or manage portfolios. Her vision was more holistic: to guide families through life’s financial complexities with clarity, confidence, and care. Over the years, Anthem Tax & Wealth has become a trusted partner for clients navigating retirement, tax strategy, estate planning, and wealth preservation.

What truly sets the firm apart isn’t just technical expertise—it’s the experience. Clients are welcomed not as accounts, but as individuals with stories, goals, and families of their own. This philosophy mirrors Rebecca’s own life: deeply personal, intentionally built, and always forward-looking.

For Rebecca, succession planning isn’t a concept—it’s a reality. Her daughter Kenzie and daughter-in-law Megan have stepped into the business not as placeholders, but as active contributors to its future. They bring fresh perspective, modern insight, and a shared commitment to the firm’s core values. Together, they represent the next chapter of Anthem Tax & Wealth—one that blends tradition with innovation. This generational transition is not just strategic—its purposeful. Rebecca has built a firm where mentorship happens naturally, where knowledge is passed across desks and dinner tables alike, and where the continuity clients depend on is already in motion.

In the financial world, clients often ask a critical question: “What happens if something changes?” At Anthem Tax & Wealth, the answer is clear. The inclusion of Rebecca’s daughter and daughter-in-law ensures that the relationships, strategies, and trust clients have built will continue seamlessly into the future. This structure provides something rare in today’s landscape: stability with a personal touch.

Rebecca defines wealth differently than most. “It’s not just about accumulation—it’s about alignment,” she says. It’s about ensuring that financial decisions support the life you want to live, the family you want to protect, and the legacy you want to leave behind.

In many ways, Anthem Tax & Wealth reflects that philosophy perfectly. It is both a professional practice and a personal testament—a business built to serve others, sustained by family, and designed to endure.

As the firm continues to grow, its foundation remains unchanged: integrity, relationships, and long-term thinking. With the next generation already in place, Rebecca Wyatt has done more than build a successful business—she has created continuity, not just for her clients, but for her family as well.

MOTHERHOOD, HOME & LIFE

Wende’s Journey

FORWENDE, MOTHERHOOD has been a journey of love, faith, and discovery—one that has shaped not only her family but also her life in the North Valley. From raising her sons, Ryan (26) and Connor (23), to adding two of her children through the beauty of adoption from China—Jason (23) and Hannah (20)—each child has brought a unique joy and perspective to her world. “Being a mom humbles you,” Wende reflects. “There’s no instruction book. My faith has always guided me, and it’s brought our family closer together.” She recalls the early days with Ryan, balancing a high-profile job while wanting to be fully present at home as she learned he needed some extra help. “Watching him grow was challenging, overwhelming, and amazing all at once. I just wanted to be with him all the time.”

Connor brought new energy, and together, the boys’ childhoods were filled with quintessential experiences —riding bikes through the neighborhood, fishing, long walks and building forts in the wash. “Growing up here was a dream,” Wende says. Adopting Hannah and Jason added a new layer to her journey. Traveling to China to bring them home was a faith-filled experience that transformed their family. “First, being a mom teaches you humility. Then, adoption taught me love in a whole new way,” she shares. Every child, Wende notes, is different. “Even in the same home, every child needed something different. Learning to guide without controlling was one of my biggest lessons.”

Some of her most treasured moments in motherhood are simple yet profound—summer adventures, family dinners together at the table, and watching her children thrive. The challenges, she admits, came in letting go—allowing her children to make mistakes, fall, and learn on their own, trusting in their growth rather than trying to control every moment.

Her approach to family life naturally carries into her professional work in real estate. “Respecting each home and the memories within it comes from how I value family,” she says. “Every client’s home is special, and that care guides how I serve them.” Today, Wende’s home remains a gathering place for family and friends. Even with adult children, she and her husband treasure dinners, game nights, and shared memories. Reflecting on her journey, she offers this advice to other mothers: “Take care of yourself. Motherhood isn’t a one-day job—you need to fill yourself up to give your best.”

Looking at her children today, Wende beams with pride. “I’m so proud of the lives they’re creating and so grateful to be able to watch them all flourish.” In this season of life, she continues to serve her clients with excellence while intentionally including travel, meaningful connections, and cherished time with family. For Wende, one truth remains beautifully constant: while motherhood evolves, its foundation remains the same—it’s always love.

Liberty Plumbing's "23" HONORING

THE FALLEN OF 9/11, EVERY DAY

FOR TOM FORD, owner of Liberty Plumbing, the “23” symbol is more than just a number. It is a deeply personal tribute rooted in the events of the September 11 attacks and the lives lost that day. The 23 is worn on the arm of his uniform, where it naturally draws attention and starts conversations. He created it to honor 9/11 and ensure the memory of that day continues to be shared, not just by him but by his crew as well.

On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people lost their lives when four hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. Among them were 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority officers, and 343 firefighters from the FDNY who responded without hesitation. “Out of those 23, I knew a couple of the guys,” he says. “It serves as a reminder of their sacrifice and gives me the chance to talk about them when people ask.”

For him and his team, the 23 represents real people, personal loss, and a shared responsibility to remember. As a retired New York City police officer, he took part

in rescue and recovery efforts in the aftermath. He has lost coworkers not only on that day but in the years since due to injuries and illnesses connected to Ground Zero exposure. His wife Tara witnessed the event in real time. It is something their family will never forget.

The meaning behind the symbol carries even more weight during Memorial Day in May, a time set aside to remember those who gave their lives in service to the country. The 23 on their uniforms becomes part of that broader remembrance. The design reflects both patriotism and purpose. He incorporated the American flag and placed the 23 on the arm so it would stand out clearly on the uniform. When he and his crew wear it, it becomes a shared symbol of respect, unity, and remembrance. People often ask about the symbol, whether they see it on him or members of his team. Each time, it opens the door to a conversation about 9/11 and the lives lost. Those moments allow both him and his crew to carry the story forward.

That commitment to service continues through support of first responders and organizations like the Gary Sinise Foundation. The foundation provides programs that support veterans, first responders, and their families, reinforcing the same values his team represents every day. More than anything, his goal is simple. He wants people to remember the sacrifice that was made. The 23 on the uniforms of him and his crew serves as a constant reminder of the lives lost, the heroes who gave everything, and the importance of never forgetting, especially during moments like Memorial Day.

VETERANS/FIRST RESPONDERS

A NEW SPACE

SOMETHING

NEW—and refreshingly different— has arrived in Anthem. At the end of March, two local businesses came together to create a shared space where style, beauty, and community all meet under one roof: Deserted Designs and Pro Beauty

Deserted Designs is a curated secondhand boutique built on the idea that “deserted” doesn’t mean done. The shop offers a thoughtful mix of clothing and home décor, encouraging customers to embrace sustainability while expressing their personal style. With a focus on giving items a second life, the boutique also provides consignment opportunities for locals looking to refresh their closets while earning extra income.

Alongside it, Pro Beauty brings a personalized approach to beauty services. Specializing in lash and brow services, and permanent jewelry, Macy has created a space where clients can invest in self-care while feeling comfortable and confident. Her work is rooted in enhancing natural beauty and helping clients feel their best in a way that fits their everyday lives.

Together, the two businesses create a seamless experience— where you can update your wardrobe, treat yourself to a beauty service, and connect with a growing local community all in one visit. Since opening, the space has quickly become more than just a storefront. It’s a place designed with intention, blending desert-inspired aesthetics with a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.

Both businesses also share a commitment to giving back, with ongoing efforts to support local organizations that serve women and families throughout the Phoenix area. Whether you come for the fashion, the beauty services, or the sense of community, this new space is about more than just what you take home—it’s about how you feel while you’re there.

Logan Phares with the Phoenix Symphony

A YOUNG

COMPOSER’S MOMENT

HAVING AN ORIGINAL composition performed by the Phoenix Symphony was a defining moment for Boulder Creek Senior Logan Phares. “It means the world to me. I’m still kind of overwhelmed and amazed about it. It feels like the first of many milestones, and it’s an opportunity to show people what I’ve been learning and how much music means to me. Being able to share that with my friends and family makes it even more special,” he said.

Bringing his piece to life with professional musicians was both challenging and rewarding. Logan spent months developing the score, working closely with conductor Alex Amsel. “We went over the score, made a lot of edits and adjustments, and continued working together for months. Hearing it come together in rehearsal was incredible,” he recalled.

Logan’s journey into composition began years earlier with guidance from his instructor, Bill Miller, who encouraged him to explore original works and submit a piece to the student composition program. His early interest in music started in seventh grade. “Mr. Miller gave me composition software, and I just started writing. It was messy, but I loved it. My band director, Mrs. Stanford, even played one of my early pieces for the class. It wasn’t structured, but it meant a lot to me,” he said.

The inspiration for his featured composition came from a personal place. After his first heartbreak, Logan used music to process his emotions. “I wanted to work through the stages of grief in the music. I wanted to put my emotions on paper in a way I hadn’t been able to before. As I kept writing, things started to get better, and that shift naturally showed up in the music,” he explained.

Writing for a full orchestra pushed Logan to expand his understanding of instruments and orchestration. “At first, I was stuck and had a hard time getting started. Then I finally put a melody down and really connected with it. I used instruments like violin and glockenspiel to create a music box effect. From there, it was a lot of writing, deleting, rewriting, and listening over and over. I also got a lot of outside input to help shape it,” he said. He studied unfamiliar instruments, experimented with textures, and revised the score until it felt complete.

Hearing the composition performed live was a powerful experience. “I was speechless. I was smiling the entire time. My grandma was crying, and honestly, so was a whole row of people. I had a lot of friends there, and everyone was so supportive. Everything just built up to that one moment,” Logan recalled.

The experience boosted Logan’s confidence as a composer. “I finally feel like I can put something on paper that has real emotional value. I’ve learned so much about keeping everything clear and balanced. It gave me confidence to keep creating,” he said. It also clarified his future goals, guiding him toward music education and inspiring him to connect with professional musicians.

For other young composers, Logan offered simple advice: “Just keep writing and show it to anyone and everyone. Be afraid of killing your darlings.” He believes programs like the student composition initiative are essential for giving new voices opportunities to grow. “They are a great opportunity to get new faces into the industry. New life - it keeps things interesting,” he said. Logan hopes audiences are inspired to listen more closely and engage with music. “Youth voices are essential to the future of classical music. They keep it alive, a never-ending cycle of creating and inspiring the next generation,” he added.

Grace under pressure. Love without conditions. A life lived in layers.

ON

THE COVER, it looks like a portrait of a beautiful family of five. But step closer, and you’ll see something deeper, more complex, and more honest. This is not a story of balance in the traditional sense. It is a story of expansion. Of stretching, redefining, and rising to meet a life that asks more than most.

For Sawana Grimmett, motherhood has never been one-dimensional. It has unfolded in distinct, demanding, and deeply transformative chapters. With three sons, Gunner (16), Ace (9), and Maverick (4), she has lived three entirely different versions of motherhood. Each has reshaped not only how she parents, but who she is.

“I was a completely different mom when Gunner was born,” she says. “I was 26. Brand new. Anxious. A total helicopter.”

Even then, there were signs that his path would be different. “He was incredibly sensitive. Textures, food, travel. Everyday things felt hard.” In practice, that meant constant adaptation. “Gunner didn’t chew food at all until he was 14. Everything had to be completely smooth, and even then, it was a very short list of foods he would accept.”

At school, the challenges took a different form. “We’ve been navigating the IEP system since kindergarten,” she says. “Fighting for the support he needs and deserves, advocating every step of the way.” At the time, she didn’t yet have the language for what she was seeing, only the instinct that something required deeper understanding. Like many parents navigating the unknown, she was surrounded by well-meaning but overwhelming advice. “There’s pressure from people who want to help fix things,” she says. “But when we finally got his diagnosis, it didn’t change him. It changed how we saw him.” That shift from fixing to understanding became a turning point. “We had done all the therapies, tried everything. And honestly, it created more stress than peace.” So they made a quiet but powerful decision. “We let go of trying to control the outcome and started honoring who he was becoming.” In time, Gunner met them there. “At 14, he went to reptile camp, met a girl, came home, and started trying new foods. It happened in his own time. You can’t rush someone into becoming who they already are.”

If Gunner introduced her to patience, Ace brought something entirely different. Ease. “Ace came barreling into this world,” she says. “He’s high-energy, joyful, always moving.” After years of infertility and multiple failed IUIs, she had made peace with the idea that her family might be complete. “I had let it go. Sold all the baby things. And then there he was.”

He was, in her words, “the easiest baby. My ride-or-die.” But even ease requires intention. “He’s so adaptable, so good, and that can make it easy to unintentionally overlook him,” she admits. “I have to be mindful to make space just for him.”

And then came Maverick, the chapter she didn’t plan, but somehow always knew. “I had a dream I was supposed

to have a third,” she says. “And the next week, I was pregnant.” By then, she was 38. Experienced. Grounded. But nothing fully prepares you for starting over. “At about a year and a half, he wasn’t speaking,” she says. “Because of Gunner, I had what I call ‘autism goggles.’ I just knew.” Knowing, however, didn’t make navigating the system easier. “It took a year and a half to get a diagnosis. Then another eight months of interviews and red tape just to access services.”

Maverick’s needs shape nearly every aspect of daily life. He is nonverbal and requires constant supervision, with elopement being one of the biggest safety concerns. “He doesn’t have a way to communicate his needs clearly, and that creates a level of vigilance that never turns off.” Even simple outings require careful planning, if they happen at all. “We have to think through every environment, every exit, every possible scenario.” It’s a version of motherhood that is deeply protective and all-consuming.

So, she made a choice many mothers understand. She stepped away from work to become what her son needed most.

“I’m very practical,” she says. “I knew what he needed, and I knew I could give that to him.” Today, Maverick is growing on his timeline. “He’s talking more now. His words aren’t always clear to others, but I understand him. And those moments, they’re everything.” For Sawana, diagnosis has never been something to fear. “It was a relief. It gave us access. It gave us direction.” She challenges the narrative around it. “Autism isn’t something to fix. It’s not a disease. It’s a spectrum, and every child is entirely their own.”

Life inside her home doesn’t resemble the polished version often portrayed online, and she’s made peace with that. “That’s been one of the hardest parts. Letting go of what it’s supposed to look like,” she says. “Even vacations. We do them differently. Sometimes it’s separate trips, one-on-one time, creating moments that actually work.” It’s not about fitting into a mold. It’s about building something that fits.

And yet, motherhood is only one layer of her life.

Sawana is also the owner of Sol Haus Suites and the Executive Director of the Anthem Area Chamber of Commerce, roles that require vision, leadership, and constant presence. She serves on the Boulder Creek Wrestling Boosters Board and is part of the sandwich generation, helping care for an aging father while raising young children. “I wear a lot of hats,” she says. “And when one area is thriving, it can feel like another is falling behind.”

Her passion for business has never been separate from her purpose. “This community has supported me through every stage of entrepreneurship,” she says. “It’s my goal to pay that forward.” Over time, her definition of success has shifted. “It’s not about doing everything anymore. It’s about knowing what actually matters and letting the rest go.” She’s learned to ask different questions. What can be outsourced? What can wait? Where am I truly needed?

At the center of it all is her marriage. “Eli grounds me,” she says. “He’s calm where I’m not. Logical where I feel everything. He’s my safe place.” Their relationship has evolved through each season. “Every time we had a child, we had to find our way back to each other. And we did.” Today, she describes their partnership with quiet confidence. “We communicate. We don’t walk away. We stay.” And sometimes, they find humor in the chaos. “Having a teenager means we finally have a built-in babysitter,” she laughs. Still, the pressure to do it all lingers.

“There’s this idea that you should be doing everything perfectly,” she says. “But the reality is my kids have had three different dinners in one night. And that’s okay.” Because what defines her home is not perfection. It is connection. “We have a loving, happy home. My kids love each other. They’re close. We apologize. We take accountability. That’s what matters.”

When asked what she would say to another mother facing an autism diagnosis, her answer is immediate. “Take it one tiny bite at a time. And find your people. Community is everything.” And for the mother who feels stretched beyond capacity, she offers this. “Look at your life and ask what’s not serving you. You don’t have to do it all. Set boundaries. Allow yourself to receive support.” Because if there is one thing motherhood has revealed to her, it is this: “I’m capable of more than I ever thought.”

In the end, her definition of motherhood is not about milestones or appearances. It is about legacy.

“What I’m teaching my children and how they show up in the world, that’s everything,” she says. “They’ll be good humans. That’s what I’m leaving behind.”

Be the “Yes” in a Pet’s Life

The Mission of Anthem Pets

INTHE QUIET corners of North Phoenix, some of the most urgent stories are the ones that never make headlines: a puppy found alone in a parking lot, a senior cat abandoned in an empty apartment, a family dog dodging traffic after slipping away from home. For nearly two decades, Anthem Pets Animal Rescue has been there for those animals, turning moments of fear and uncertainty into second chances.

Founded in 2005 as a grassroots response to a growing need for animal welfare in the community, Anthem Pets has grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a clear mission: to reunite lost pets with their owners and rescue homeless, abused, and abandoned dogs and cats. At the center of that mission is fostering.

Because Anthem Pets does not have a physical shelter, it relies entirely on foster families willing to open their homes to animals in need. That foster-based model is not just part of the organization’s work, it is the foundation of it. When an animal is in distress, the answer depends on whether a foster home is available. If there is no foster, there is often no place to take the animal. In that moment, the ability to say yes can mean the difference between life and death.

Fostering is incredibly rewarding, but people are often concerned about the cost and commitment. Anthem Pets removes those barriers to helping. The organization provides supplies, covers veterinary expenses, and offers a supportive community of volunteers to guide fosters along the way. Foster families provide the space and the love, and Anthem Pets provides the rest.

Fostering does not require a perfect home or professional experience. Sometimes it means giving a frightened dog a quiet place to decompress. Sometimes it means bottle feeding fragile kittens through the spring season. Sometimes it means providing a temporary safe haven for a found pet while its owner is located. Whether the commitment is short or long, fostering gives an animal something it may never have had before: safety, stability, and trust.

Through its Pet Hotline, volunteers respond quickly in emergency situations, giving the community a direct line to help when time matters most. Anthem Pets also works closely with the community to share information, spread alerts, and help neighbors reunite with missing pets. That spirit of collaboration has made the organization an essential part of life in Anthem and North Phoenix. In 2025 alone, Anthem Pets brought in 622 animals from the streets, and 544 were adopted. They came from county shelters or through owner surrender due to hardship or loss. Each one represents a life given another chance, and a reminder of how much need still exists. Every foster home makes that rescue possible.

Looking ahead, Anthem Pets hopes to grow beyond its foster-based model by establishing a dedicated shelter. The vision includes space for emergency holding, quarantine areas for sick animals, and a place to educate and support owners facing serious conditions such as FIP. To help make that vision possible, Anthem Pets has launched a brick and mortar fund to secure a facility where emergency cases can be housed safely.

As the organization looks to the future, its goal remains simple: to never have to say no to an animal in need. To do that, it needs foster families, donors, and community members willing to step forward.

Whether you are looking to add a little extra joy to your home or want to give back to the community that makes North Phoenix special, there is a place for you here.

PRESTIGE MOVING Redefining the Moving Experience

PRESTIGE MOVING Redefining the Moving Experience

MOVING IS OFTEN one of the most stressful experiences a homeowner can go through, and not all moving companies approach it the same way. What sets a professional moving company apart isn’t just trucks and labor—it’s the systems, communication, and care behind every move.

At Prestige Moving, the focus is on creating a smooth and predictable experience from start to finish. That begins with fast and clear communication. Homeowners aren’t left waiting for responses or unsure about next steps. Every inquiry is handled with urgency and attention, helping customers feel confident early in the process. From the first call or message, the goal is to provide clarity, not confusion.

Another key difference is consistency. Moves are carefully coordinated with structured processes in place—from accurate estimates to organized scheduling—so there are fewer surprises on moving day. Each step is planned with precision, allowing the team to execute efficiently while adapting to any lastminute changes that may arise. This level of preparation helps reduce stress and keeps everything running on time.

Customer experience also plays a major role. A successful move isn’t just about transporting items—it’s about trust. Homeowners are placing their belongings, and often major life transitions, in someone else’s hands. That’s why professionalism, respect, and attention to detail matter at every stage. Crews are trained not only to handle items carefully, but to communicate clearly and treat every home with care.

In addition, a strong local presence makes a difference. Building relationships with real estate professionals and staying connected within the community allows for better coordination and a more seamless experience for clients who are buying or selling homes.

Above all, what sets Prestige Moving apart is its commitment to doing things the right way—through communication, organization, and genuine care—resulting in a move that feels managed, supported, and stress-free.

PEDALING FORWARD

The New Chapter of SUNSET CYCLERY

WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY to purchase Sunset Cyclery came along, it wasn’t part of a long, calculated plan. It happened at the right time. Originally from Montana, Jeremy and Whitney Ostermiller had been considering a move and visited Anthem about a month and a half before relocating after hearing it was a great place to raise a family. That visit made a strong impression. At the time, Jeremy was looking into doing something on his own, having always been interested in hands-on work and business ownership.

During that time, he came across Sunset Cyclery, which was for sale. After meeting the previous owner, they connected right away. Instead of jumping straight into ownership, Jeremy stepped in as a manager and spent five months learning the business before purchasing it. That experience confirmed what he was hoping for, not just a shop, but a place rooted in the community. The business had already been established for five years and carried a strong family-oriented feel, which was important to both Jeremy and Whitney. Whitney, a Radiology Technologist, supported the decision, knowing it was something Jeremy had always wanted.

Jeremy’s background is not traditional for the cycling industry. What started as a hobby, especially mountain biking, grew into something more. He earned a degree in diesel mechanics and worked as an underground diesel mechanic at an underground hard rock mine in Montana. While working on bikes is very different from working on diesel equipment, the mechanical skills carried over, supported by a team that shares a strong passion for cycling.

As owners, Jeremy and Whitney want to grow the business while continuing to take care of local families. They see the shop as more than a place to buy or service bikes. It is part of the community. Looking ahead, they hope to host events, organize group rides, and get more kids out riding.

Sunset Cyclery is now an official Trek dealer, a decision driven by demand in the community. For now, the focus has been on listening and understanding what customers want. Like many bike shops, there are challenges. More people are shopping online, and prices have increased. Rather than compete with large retailers, the focus remains on being a local, family-owned shop. The Ostermillers live in Anthem, their kids go to school there, and they are committed to supporting other local businesses.

In the next three to five years, the goal is to continue growing while staying rooted in Anthem, building a shop that reflects the needs of the community.

MediSol Pharmacy

WHERE PRESCRIPTIONS ARE PERSONALIZED

MOST PEOPLE CHOOSE a pharmacy the same way they choose a gas station: whichever is closest. You pull up, wait your turn, and leave. It works, but it was never designed around you. A boutique pharmacy works differently. It’s a pharmacy where you’re treated like more than a stranger and is available when you have a question - not after a tenminute hold or through an automated system.

At a chain pharmacy, volume drives everything. Hundreds of prescriptions move through daily, and the system is built for speed, not conversation. There’s rarely time for a pharmacist to walk you through a new medication, flag a potential interaction, or ask how your current therapy is working. A boutique pharmacy operates differently. The patient base is smaller by design, which means more time with your pharmacist, closer attention to your medication history, and a level of care high-volume environments can’t replicate. Many offer direct texting for quick, clear answers without a phone tree or trip to the store, and some provide short video guides for commonly prescribed medications as a plainlanguage alternative to fine print. This is what patient-centered care should look like.

For many patients, a standard manufacturer’s medication works well - but not for all. Some need a dose that doesn’t exist or is on backorder. Others can’t swallow capsules or react to inactive ingredients like dyes, fillers, or preservatives. When that happens, most pharmacies aren’t equipped to help. A boutique pharmacy can. Through compounding - one of the oldest practices in pharmacy - a licensed pharmacist prepares a customized medication prescribed by a physician and tailored to a specific patient. This might mean adjusting a dose, changing a capsule to a cream, or removing an ingredient

a patient cannot tolerate. Most pharmacies fill prescriptions. A boutique pharmacy designs them.

A boutique pharmacist works with your doctor, not around them. When a compounded medication is prescribed, the pharmacist communicates directly with the prescriber to determine the right formulation, strength, and delivery method. If adjustments are needed, that conversation happens between two professionals focused on the same outcome.

MediSol Pharmacy, a pharmacist-owned compounding pharmacy in Arizona’s West Valley, is one example of this model in practice. Wherever you find it, the principle is the same: not every patient fits a one-size-fits-all prescription, and their pharmacy shouldn’t either. Most pharmacies fill prescriptions. A boutique pharmacy designs them. That’s not a slogan—it’s a different standard of care.

Thoughtful Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for Kids to Give

MOTHER’S DAY IS an amazing time to pause and celebrate the moms, grandmas, and mother figures who give so much of themselves every single day. While it’s easy to think of gifts as something that needs to be bought, some of the most memorable and lasting gestures are the ones created with intention, love, and time.

Here are five thoughtful and easy gift ideas that children of all ages can take part in, each one centered around appreciation, creativity, and time together.

1. A HANDMADE CARD WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH

A handwritten card is timeless for a reason. Encouraging children to draw pictures, write a short message, or share a favorite memory makes the gift deeply personal.

2. BREAKFAST MADE WITH LOVE

Starting the day with a homemade breakfast or sweet treat is a classic way to celebrate. It doesn’t have to be complicated, toast, fruit, pancakes, or even mom’s favorite coffee prepared with care can make her feel appreciated.

3. A “WHY I LOVE YOU” LIST

“You make the best dinners,” “You help me when I’m sad,” or “You give the best hugs,” these small reflections often become the most cherished gifts.

4. A MEMORY JAR FILLED WITH KIND NOTES

A memory jar is a gift that continues to give long after Mother’s Day has passed. Children can fill a jar or box with handwritten notes, favorite memories, things they appreciate, or encouraging messages. Mom can return to these notes whenever she needs a smile, making it a deeply meaningful and lasting gift.

5. QUALITY TIME, HER WAY

Above all, many moms value time together more than anything else. Planning an activity centered around what she enjoys, a walk around the neighborhood, a family movie night, a game, or simply a quiet afternoon together, can be the most thoughtful gift of all.

Mother’s Day doesn’t need to be elaborate to be meaningful. In fact, the most impactful gifts are often the simplest ones, those that reflect love, appreciation, and connection. By focusing on small, intentional moments, families can create a day that feels special not just for mom, but for everyone involved.

Sometimes, the simplest words carry the most weight. Helping children create a list of reasons they love their mom can be both fun and heartfelt. Whether it’s

the Gift of Peace of Mind this Mother’s Day

YOU FINALLY SIT down to that Mother’s Day brunch you didn’t have to plan. The mimosa is cold. The restaurant is beautiful. But somewhere between the first sip and the appetizer, your mind drifts home. Did they eat this morning? Are they pacing by the door? Do they think I’m not coming back?

If you’ve ever checked your phone under the table just to make sure your fur babies are okay, you’re not alone. For pet moms, leaving town comes with a very specific kind of guilt. It doesn’t matter if it’s one night or one week. The worry is real.

Here’s the good news: our pets find comfort in consistency. The same feeding schedule. The same walk route. The same cozy spot on the couch. When their routine stays familiar, even while Mom is away, they feel safe. They eat well. They rest easy. And that makes all the difference.

That’s why trusted, professional pet care matters. A great sitter doesn’t just show up. They learn your pet’s quirks, follow their schedule, and send photos so you can see that happy tail wagging from wherever you are. No guessing. No wondering. Just a little notification that says, "Everything’s great. Enjoy your day, Mom."

This Mother’s Day, you deserve to fully unplug. Put the phone away. Order the second mimosa. When your fur babies are in good hands, peace of mind isn’t just possible. It’s guaranteed.

PICKLEBALL TEN THE Foothills Sports Medicine Physical Therapy

PICKLEBALL’S

EXPLOSIVE GROWTH has introduced thousands of new athletes to a sport that looks easy but places surprisingly high demands on balance, strength, agility, and body control. Many injuries occur not because the sport is dangerous, but because players step onto the court without preparing their bodies for its specific movements. Mastering the following ten foundational activities can dramatically reduce injury risk while improving performance and confidence. I call it “The Pickleball Ten.”

First, the ability to move in and out of a chair without using your hands reflects lower body strength and control. This simple movement mirrors rising quickly after low shots and stabilizing during rallies. Strong hips and legs protect the knees and reduce fall risk. Multi directional lunges, including forward, sideways, posterior lateral, and anterior medial, train the exact patterns used when chasing balls. Pickleball is rarely linear. Players must absorb force safely from every direction. Lunges build joint resilience and teach proper loading mechanics. Lateral shuffling develops court coverage while minimizing dangerous crossover steps. Combined with single leg balance, these skills improve stability during quick reactions and help prevent ankle sprains and awkward missteps.

Upper body mobility matters too. Practicing equal reaching behind the back and neck without spinal compensation ensures shoulder mobility and symmetry. Many pickleball injuries occur when players rotate excessively through the spine instead of moving through the shoulders and hips. Lower leg endurance is addressed by walking on your toes, strengthening the calf complex and Achilles tendon, structures heavily stressed during repeated starts and stops. Similarly, lunge walking integrates strength, balance, and coordination

For people who feel sore, stressed, or overloaded... and want a simple, convenient reset for their body and energy. Yoga + cold bath ciruits are designed to help you feel better fast!

across continuous movement, closely resembling real gameplay demands.

A critical yet often overlooked skill is competent deceleration. Most injuries happen when stopping, not starting. Learning to slow down under control protects knees, hips, and hamstrings during sudden directional changes. Weight shifting forward and backward as well as side to side enhances body awareness and reaction timing. Efficient weight transfer allows players to stay centered, reducing overreaching and loss of balance.

Finally, mastering agility ladder movements ties everything together. Foot speed, coordination, rhythm, and neuromuscular control all improve. These drills increase reaction efficiency while decreasing unnecessary joint stress. Pickleball rewards preparation. By developing strength, mobility, balance, and controlled movement through these ten activities, players build a body capable of handling the sport’s demands. The result is not just fewer injuries. It is better movement, quicker reactions, longer rallies, and more enjoyable time on the court. Train these fundamentals consistently, and your body will support your game for years to come.
