EV Charger Installation
Asmore Anthem homeowners switch to electric vehicles, one common question is: “Can I install an EV charger in my garage?” In most cases, yes - but it needs to be done safely and correctly.
A Level 2 EV charger is much faster and more convenient than a standard outlet, but it also adds a significant electrical load to your home. Before installation, a licensed electrician should inspect your electrical panel, confirm capacity, and make sure the conductors, or wiring, are properly sized for the charger. Undersized wiring can overheat and create a serious safety concern.
GFCI protection is also important. This helps protect against electrical shock, especially in garage areas where water, moisture, or outdoor conditions may be present.
Homeowners should also understand the difference between

TYLER'S LEGACY
FORTYLER, OWNER of Legacy Roofing, balancing business ownership with family life is not something he treats like a perfectly structured formula. Instead, it is something he approaches with intention, discipline, and a steady awareness that priorities have to stay aligned or everything else eventually feels out of place.
When asked how he manages the demands of running a business while staying present at home, Tyler is straightforward. “You just got to put your priorities in the right place,” he says. For him, that means understanding that business success can never come at the expense of family stability.
He explains that being present at home requires active choices, not leftover time. “You got to buy out the time that you need to take care of the needs of your kids and your wife and the needs around the home,” he says. That mindset shapes how he approaches his schedule, making sure family time is protected instead of squeezed in when possible.
Tyler also recognizes how easy it is for work to take over if boundaries are not intentional. “When that falls apart, it doesn’t matter how good a business is doing, you’re not happy,” he reflects. For him, fulfillment is not measured by business growth alone, but by whether home life is strong and steady.
He has been married to his wife, Abby, for nearly 20 years. That long-term commitment, he says, has been built through communication, patience, and learning how to navigate life’s different seasons together—especially the demanding ones that come with raising kids and running a business.
At home, Tyler is a father to two teenagers. His daughter, Ellie, is 15, and his son, Levi, is 12. As they grow older, he has shifted his parenting focus from day-to-day direction to building long-term trust and openness.
When asked about the values most important to him as a father, he immediately points to honesty For Tyler, parenting is not about expecting perfection, but about creating an environment where truth is always safe to speak. “It’s not necessarily that my kids aren’t going to make bad decisions or good decisions,” he explains. “It’s that when they make those decisions, I want them to be able to come to me and my wife and let us know what’s going on, and we can help them.”
For him, that balance between support and accountability is essential for raising grounded, responsible young adults. It is not about punishment, but about helping his children understand that choices have real consequences. The same values that guide Tyler at home also shape how he leads his business. Whether he is managing a roofing project or navigating family, his approach stays consistent: be honest, take responsibility, and show up when it matters most.
For Tyler, Legacy Roofing is not separate from his identity as a husband and father. It is an extension of it. What he builds professionally only holds meaning if he is also building a strong, connected home alongside Abby and staying present for the people who matter most.

You’ve noticed the changes. You just haven’t said them out loud.
You laugh and feel a leak…You cross your legs before you sneeze…You wear a liner “just in case.”… You avoid certain workouts…You plan your day around bathrooms…Intimacy feels different than it used to….You’ve been told it’s just part of aging…And you believed it….Most women do.

A Taste of Vietnam at PHO LEGEND
FROMA MOUNTAINSIDE village in Vietnam to a warmly lit dining room where guests are treated like family, Mai’s journey to opening Pho Legend is one of resilience, intention, and heart. “I was born and grew up in the countryside, on the mountain,” Mai shares. “We didn’t have business there. We lived off what we grew—rice, chicken, fish. Everything was simple.” But simplicity came with hardship. To attend high school, Mai traveled far from home, often staying with acquaintances just to continue her education. College felt out of reach financially, and early setbacks only added to the weight she carried. Ultimately, she completed a teacher college program, which was government-sponsored for ethnic minority Vietnamese.
Even with a fresh degree in hand, there was still no opportunity for her in her hometown. This proved to be a defining moment, marked by pivotal advice from

her father. “He told me, ‘You haven’t tried yet. Try first. If you’re not successful, then you can decide what to do.’” That push changed everything. Mai left her tiny village for Hanoi with just $200—money her father entrusted to her carefully. She faced homelessness, rejection, and isolation, but she held onto a vision: build a life in the city, start a business, and create opportunity where none existed before. Through persistence, she launched a construction company, eventually securing contracts with all of the foreign embassies in Hanoi. “After that, I felt like, Wow— I’m successful,” she says.
But success didn’t stop her evolution. Mai later moved to the United States, settling

in Alaska, where she built another thriving business—this time in the nail industry. Yet even then, something was missing. While in Alaska, she met and married her husband, an Arizona resident and UPS pilot. Upon relocating and selling her business, her entrepreneurial spirit narrowed in on what had long been its goal. “I always wanted to do a restaurant,” she says. “When you come from Vietnam, you look for real Vietnamese food. I couldn’t find it. I wanted something authentic—so people don’t have to fly to Vietnam to experience it.”
That vision became Pho Legend.
At the heart of the restaurant is pho, a dish deeply personal to Mai. “The broth is everything,” she explains. “The meat, anyone can prepare. But the broth—it takes time, care.” Pho Legend’s broth is simmered for two days using cleaned bones and bone marrow, with no MSG. “Health is most important,” Mai says. “If you don’t have health, you don’t have anything.”
Her commitment to clean, nourishing food is rooted in her upbringing and her own sensitivities.
“I grew up with no chemicals, everything natural. My body is very sensitive. So here, we focus on ingredients that make people feel good—not just full.” Alongside the food, Pho Legend offers an elevated beverage experience, curated by co-owner and husband Jeff. Signature cocktails like the “Dragon’s Whisper” blend Vietnamese ingredients with local Arizona spirits, creating what he calls “Vietnam distilled into a glass”—a balance of sweet, savory, and aromatic notes that mirror the cuisine.
Yet beyond the menu, Pho Legend is about something deeper.
“I want people to come here and feel like home,” Mai says. “Like they are part of a family.” That sense of belonging is intentional—something she built from a life where she often felt she didn’t have a family nearby. “Family is everything to me,” she adds. “So we create that here.” In every bowl of pho, every detail, and every interaction, Pho Legend tells Mai’s story—a story of adversity transformed into purpose, and a place where authenticity, care, and community come together.

I wanted to explore the meaning of fatherhood with Todd. What did his dad teach him? What does he want his children to know about life? When everything in the world seems chaotic, what does Todd hold on to? Well, the answers to those questions may surprise you. He’s got plays drawn up in his head for quiet moments, family time, adversity, and high pressure situations. That’s what makes him so intentional about his own parenting. “Here’s what I want my children to know…They are in charge of being good human beings, and they need to stay humble.”
Todd says that both parents taught him to have a strong work ethic and to be proud of his American values. He is a firm believer that people like his dad and grandfather, both of whom served their country, paved the way for the rest of us. His father served in the Vietnam War, and his grandfather, a Purple Heart recipient, was in Normandy and the Korean War. For Todd, those aren’t just generic stories; they are generational sacrifices made by the people he loves. That’s why patriotism is so foundational to his life.
PEOPLE KNOW Todd Ninneman as the real estate guy. Others may know him from serving with Anthem Rotary or ACTS (Anthem Cares Through Service). Many golfers know Todd from the Friday Billy Game or The Charity Golf Classic. There are youth organizations and athletic teams who know him as a generous supporter of their sports teams, theater programs, and military projects. Veterans know Todd because he’s sponsored pavers around the Veterans Memorial and has been a key supporter in preserving the military ball.
While all those areas of the community are important to Todd, there are three titles that mean the most to him, “Son, Husband, and Father.” It’s true that most people will never see the softer side of Todd, but it’s an integral part of his identity. For a businessman who has his name on signs all around Anthem, people really have only an inkling of who Todd Ninneman really is.
Todd doesn’t equate success to material rewards or plaques on the wall. However, he will tell you that he’s very proud of his recent performance at “The Duel In The Desert,” the biggest golf tournament of the year at Anthem Golf & Country Club. Todd and his lifelong friend, Kim Trowbridge, took home the championship trophy, the duo made several critical shots to seal that win. When I asked about the pressure of playing in front of hundreds of spectators, he said, “It's not much different then the sports stages I was on when I was younger. You learn how to block out everything around you and stay focused in the moment. This has helped me in this tournament, but more importantly, it has served me well in life when I’m dealing with various challenges.”
I think that’s the edge Todd brings. It makes him the guy that you want in your corner to sink the final putt, solve the problem, or close the deal. There was a pause in the interview, and then he announced, “Listen, I joke and tease people a lot, but at the end of the day, I hope they know that I care.” He credits his faith and his wife, Bobbi, with keeping him centered. “Throughout my life I’ve been blessed with opportunities and people who have helped me grow. I can’t ignore those things. They have been monumental in forming who I am today.” I knew he wasn’t talking about business, sports, or professional relationships anymore. He was talking about a deeper purpose that lives inside him to give back, be a good family man, mentor colleagues, and help others develop a winning mentality.
I asked Todd to give me three words to describe himself. He took a moment to ponder the question and finally said, “loyal, ambitious, and reserved.” Those fit him to a tee! He is driven to have impact, he’s not swayed by other people’s opinions of him, and he’s following his inner compass. That may not make him the most approachable guy, but once you get to know him, he’s the real deal and he will help you with just about anything.

THE HEART of Fatherhood LESSONS FROM DR. HOLLY
FATHERHOOD
IS OFTEN described as a journey—one marked by responsibility, growth, sacrifice and deep, unwavering love. For Dr Holly, a dedicated dentist and father, these two worlds— professional and personal—intersect in meaningful ways, but never compete for what matters most: family.
At home, Dr Holly is not defined by degrees, patients or clinical precision, but by the quieter, more enduring role of being “Dad”. Whether it’s helping learn a new task or simply being present after a long day, he understands that fatherhood is built in small, consistent moments. It’s in the conversations, the encouragement during challenges and the reliability that children come to depend on.
His career in dentistry, while demanding, has subtly shaped his approach to parenting. Dentistry requires patience, attention to detail and empathy, qualities that translate seamlessly into fatherhood. Working with patients of all ages has reinforced his ability to listen carefully and respond with understanding, skills that prove just as essential at home.
Yet, if you ask Dr Holly what defines him most, it wouldn’t be his profession. Dentistry is what he does, being a father is who he is. HONORING SERVICE PRESERVING LEGACY Daisy Mountain Fire Department Honor Guard
INTHE HEART of North Phoenix, the Daisy Mountain Fire Department
Honor Guard represents tradition, respect, and service at the highest level. Established in 2010, the unit is dedicated to honoring fallen firefighters, law enforcement officers, and public servants while representing their department and community with pride.
Led by Honor Guard Commander Gabe Alvarez, an engineer on Engine 145 with nearly 19 years of service, the team carries out its mission with consistency and purpose. For almost a decade in this leadership role, Alvarez has helped shape a group known for its professionalism and deep commitment to honoring those who have served.
The Honor Guard regularly travels throughout Arizona and beyond to stand in tribute at memorial services and ceremonies. Each appearance is rooted in respect
and attention to detail, offering support to families and fellow first responders during some of their most difficult moments.
Recently, members traveled to Colorado Springs to honor one of their own who passed away from occupational cancer. He is now memorialized at the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial. Being present for moments like this is something the team does not take lightly. It is a responsibility they carry with pride.
Locally, the Honor Guard is a steady presence in the community. They participate in the Veterans Day Parade in Anthem, present the colors at recruit graduations, and take part in community events such as rodeos and civic gatherings. Their presence brings a level of respect and tradition that resonates with both residents and fellow public servants.
Much of this work is self-funded. Members often cover the cost of uniforms,

equipment, and travel themselves to ensure they can continue showing up when it matters most. Their commitment is not about recognition. It is about honoring others and representing their department the right way. The mission is simple. Honor. Remember. Represent.

THE HEART BEHIND AZ AIR TECH
MINDY HAS BUILT a life rooted in faith, family, and purpose. Married to her high school sweetheart for 36 years, she is a proud mom of two and grandmother of two. Since moving to Arizona in 2008, she has embraced the beauty of the area, spending time hiking, practicing Pilates, and enjoying country music with her close-knit family. “Being a mom means everything to me,” she says. “I homeschooled my kids for most of their schooling, and it is the highest honor.” Her relationship with Jesus shapes who she is and inspires her daily. “I am full of grace for myself and others, and I just want to keep growing.”
The story behind AZ Air Tech began years ago when her husband worked in HVAC in Hollywood after they were first married in California. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to take risks, he pursued building something of his own. “He has always been the one who wanted to try new things,” Mindy says. “I always imagined a more traditional path, but this life turned out perfect.” Together, they built a company focused on HVAC repair and installation, choosing to remain a family-owned and intentionally smaller operation. “We purposely stayed small so we can build real relationships with our customers,” she explains. “We want to grow slowly and stay connected.”
One of Mindy’s proudest accomplishments is the relationships she has helped cultivate with homeowners. Though she works behind the scenes, she feels deeply connected to the families they serve. “I rarely meet them, but I feel like I know them,” she says. “We adore our customers. We are fair, honest, and just want to make a good living.”
Balancing business ownership with motherhood is still a challenge. “There are days I feel overwhelmed because I am always on,” she admits. “Sometimes I want to cry, and I feel unqualified, but my faith carries me.” She continues to lean into tools and growth, looking for ways to make life simpler while trusting God’s plan. “I just want to follow His will.”
At the heart of everything she does is a desire to pass on faith and resilience to her children. “I want them to walk with the Lord and have faith for anything,” she says. “Faith is my biggest strength. I want people to feel included and accepted.” Those who know her often describe her as joyful and kind, a reflection of the values she lives by.
When it comes to how she spends her time, Mindy keeps it simple. “We love taking little trips and just being together,” she says. Over time, she has learned to celebrate life more fully, embracing both the small, everyday moments and the meaningful milestones.
Above all, Mindy describes her life in one word: “Gratitude. I am grateful to be a mom, a grandmother, a wife, and a business owner. I am grateful for my body, my family, and the ability to keep learning. I never want to retire. I just want to keep serving and doing more.”

Today, Zac is known for his alternative styles, including shags, mullets, and burst fades, while still offering classic, clean-cut looks. Outside the shop, he’s a proud dog and cat dad to a toy poodle and an exotic shorthair cat, both of whom he humorously says look like aliens. With his girlfriend, a dog groomer, Zac often experiments with fun styles on his poodle, even giving it a bright pink haircut. He guided a client through his first shave experience impact.

Father’s Day looks different now.
WHENYOUR KIDS are grown, they have lives of their own. Expectations shift, and with a career like firefighting, being home for holidays is not always possible. This year carries more weight. It will be the first Father’s Day without Tom’s dad. “We’ll probably put a picture of my dad on the table,” he says. “Keep his memory alive.” There is no big plan, no grand gesture. Just intention. “I never made a big deal out of Father’s Day for myself,” he adds. “But I always liked to honor my dad.”
Years before this stage, Sarah entered the children’s lives when they were very young. “Ezra was one and Reyna was three,” she says. “We were friends before we dated, so I’ve been there as long as they can remember.” Her background in social work shaped how they built their home. “We’ve always communicated openly and honestly,” she says “I make sure I reach out to my son Ezra,” he says. “We don’t talk every day, but every couple of weeks I’ll call him and say, hey, we haven’t talked, let’s catch up.” What matters is that the connection stays active.” Their daughter Reyna lives nearby, and they see her often, along with their grandson. That proximity has allowed them to stay deeply involved in each other’s lives. This stage of parenting feels more relational than directive. It is less about guiding and more about being present.
Years in the fire service have shaped how Tom sees time and family. “Your life is a finite amount of time,” he says. “Family becomes more important as I get older.” The job brings constant reminders of how quickly things can change. “Every call we go on is dangerous,” he explains. “So I try to focus on quality time when we’re together.” “They’re just good human beings,” Tom says, reflecting on his adult children. “And they talk to us. That’s my greatest honor.” The relationship has shifted from authority to trust. “They come to us more now than when they were younger,” he explains. “When they have questions or challenges.”
Sarah, a social worker, approaches those conversations differently. “I try to walk side by

focus more intentionally on their own well-being. “You have to take care of yourself,” Sarah says. She turned to therapy, mindfulness, and community support. They also connected with local programs that provided guidance and in home support. .”
Looking back, the moments that stand out are not the hardest ones. They are the simple ones. Dinner at the table every night. Conversations that felt ordinary at the time. Laughter. Music. The things he built with his hands. "That’s what lives on,” Tom says. Lloyd entered hospice care at home, surrounded by family. Father’s Day will look different this year. But in many ways, it carries more meaning than ever.

Parenting does not end when children grow up. It changes. When Tom’s mother passed away in 2020, his father Lloyd moved in with them. “He said right away he didn’t want to live alone,” Tom recalls. The transition happened quickly. Homes were sold. A new home was purchased that could accommodate everyone. Lloyd had his own space, his own room, even a workshop. “We wanted him to have everything he needed to feel comfortable,” Tom says.
Lloyd had spent his life working as a plumber, providing for his family. “He was raised in a different time,” Tom says. “His job was to work and provide.” He was steady and reliable. “Even if they didn’t have a lot of money, they were always there for us.” He also had a creative side. “His love language was building things,” Tom says. “He made rocking horses, bassinets, toys for the grandkids.” Those pieces became expressions of care. Over time, small changes began to appear. “He hit the gate at the country club,” Tom says. “And I knew something wasn’t right.” There were missed stop signs, confusion while driving, trouble finding words. “He would get stuck,” Sarah says. The turning point came when they addressed his driving. “We had to have a hard conversation,” Tom says. “It wasn’t safe anymore.” Lloyd resisted at first but eventually accepted it. “We told him we would take him wherever he needed to go,” Sarah says. The diagnosis came later. Vascular dementia. At first, the changes were manageable. Then they were not. “He went from being able to do everything to needing help with everything,” Sarah says. “Showering, dressing, eating.” The last year brought the most significant decline. “It became full time care.” Caregiving was constant. “You’re never off,” Sarah explains. “Even when you’re sitting down, you’re waiting for the next thing.” The emotional toll was just as heavy. “The hardest part for me was the resentment,” she says. “I didn’t like that part of myself.” They supported each other the best they could. “We always said love and support,” Tom says. “That was our mantra.” It reminded them to stay aligned. Their daughter stepped in to help as well, even with a newborn of her own. “It was a full family effort,” Sarah says. Despite their experience, the strain was undeniable. “We were exhausted,” Tom says. Sleep was limited. Stress was constant. “You don’t know how long it’s going to last,” Sarah says. They began to

WHATSTARTED AS a simple love for fishing has grown into something much deeper for Mike, a community initiative that brings kids together between Anthem and Paloma Park. Inspired by his own childhood, where fishing helped him cope with a difficult home life, Mike set out to give local kids that same sense of peace and opportunity.
“Fishing was an outlet for me,” he says. “I wanted to give kids the same chance.” These outings offer more than time by the water. Kids learn patience, problem solving, and how to stay focused, but just as important, they build friendships. Many show up alone and leave feeling connected. Mike has watched their confidence grow with each visit.
One moment that stands out was when a young angler reeled in a large carp for the first time. The excitement and pride on his face captured what these days are all about. Mike organizes the gatherings through social media and welcomes kids ages 4 to 18. He also encourages parents to stay and take part, creating time for families to be together and make memories.
Outside of the lake, Mike runs Mobile Mike Detailing Services, his mobile car detailing business. What started as a leap of faith has grown through hard work and his ability to connect with customers. His involvement in the community often leads to conversations that support his business.
As a father to a one-year-old son, Mike says his outlook has shifted. He wants to lead by example and be someone his son can look up to. This Father’s Day, his story reflects what it means to show up, give back, and create lasting impact in the lives of others.

THE BIG MOMENT AT All Star World
FORTHIS TEAM, All Star World Championship was never just another competition. It was a turning point. A weekend filled with pressure, pride, and the reality that for six athletes, this would be their final time competing at this level before moving on to the next chapter of life.
Day one hit hard. In the middle stunt, a team member went down. No one was hurt, but the emotional impact was immediate. Backstage, there were tears. A routine they had worked so hard for suddenly felt uncertain. When the scores came in, it was a 91. In this arena, you want to see a 95 or higher to have a real shot at advancing. Only a handful of teams move on. Seeing that number meant facing the possibility that this was the last time this group would perform together.
Coach Amy pulled them in for a talk that went beyond scores. It was about ownership, resilience, and understanding the moment. For many of them, it was the beginning of saying goodbye to this chapter.
Heading into finals, there was hope, but something felt off. The warmup did not have the same sharp energy. You could see it. You could feel it. Then came awards. Teams are called in order, and only the top half move on. When their name was called first, there was disbelief. Then came the realization that four of the six teams ahead had falls. It was something you rarely see at this level. Emotions hit again, but this time it came with a second chance.
Day two was different. The energy was back. Focused. Intense. The team came alive in warmups, ready to take the floor one more time. They were not perfect, but they were strong, confident, and fully present. You could feel the shift.
Then came finals. The top team took the mat and had a fall. No one ever wants to see that, but it changed everything. When the scores came in, it was a tie. Two teams, same score, sharing silver.
Hearing their name called for second place was something no one expected after day one. It was one of those moments that reminds you why these athletes keep pushing. There was a sense of surrender going into day two, and somehow that allowed them to perform freely and finish strong. For six of them, it was the perfect way to close this chapter together.
