BonNouvelNatureTrailisabeautifulecoandagroheritage siteestablishedwithinEsperanceEstate,a56acreworking plantationestablishedin1830.Theestate,borderingthe PitonsWorldHeritageSite,hasseentheproductionoftobacco,sugar,cocoa,coconutandcoffee,andcurrentlyproducesflowers,cocoa,honey,cinnamon,citrus,coconut,fruits suchasgrapefruit,tangerine,mangoes,treecropssuchas breadfruit,breadnutsandavocadoandvegetablessuchas yams,potatoanddasheen(allstaplesofourlocalcuisine).

Themainstayoftheestateisitsflowerproduction;thereare eightgreenhouseswithHybridAnthuriums,WhiteGinger Lilies,andHeliconia.LocalCaribbeanPinkAnthuriumsare grownintheopenunderthecocoawhichprovidesnatural shade.

Asyousetoffyouwillencountertherarebirdsandwildlife thatfindsanctuaryinthisruggedandsomewhatremote partoftheisland.TheSt.LucianWren,St.LuciaOriole,St. LuciaBlackFinchandtheRedNeckPigeonarejustsome oftherarebirdspeciesthatwilladdtoyourexperience alongthetrail.Youwillalsonoticechangesinvegetation whicharequiteobviousasyouproceedtothesummit.
