kristen alix
The end of an era—the beginning of another
Kristen Alix began her career as an ICU nurse, but landed in the discipline of Vascular nursing in 1997.
She was asked by Ken Slaw, SVS Executive Director, what was her professional “why” —what was it that kept her engaged with these patients?
This weekend, she experienced the “highlight of her professional career ” at the 2024 Society for Vascular Nursing conference. During her moving Presidential address as outgoing SVN President, Kristen asked the room to consider their “why,” because she’d found hers: it was the association of providers in the room
“These conferences, where vascular nurses and Advanced Practice Providers share ideas and passions, are so empowering. It is basically a mutual admiration society,” she said. “I’d never considered that I could be here, doing this, in this position, and feeling so rewarded by it.”
While Kristen’s tenure is coming to a close, she’s passing the torch along to the next SVN President, who she will mentor. She will stay active co-chairing an education committee and plans to develop enduring reference materials for new and seasoned vascular providers to use. "
