new smart phrase for discharge planning
We've updated our inpatient time smart phrases at UCH to now include an option for discharge planning This update applies to the following smart phrases: CUMEDIPTIME CUMEDIPSHAREDTIME
You now have the option to select "discharge planning" from the "timeaction" drop down menu within each smart phrase
The benefit of this is twofold:
You will not need to enter a separate discharge phrase. For split/shared discharge services, it will accurately reflect the physician's non-overlapping discharge time

Dopamine Detox - Danger or Deliverance?
The Anschutz Newsroom recently published an article on the “Dopamine Detox” trend. The idea suggests completely cutting off all screens and detaching from the digital world to “detox from dopamine.” Professor Emily Hemendinger of the Department of Psychiatry shared some wise words about the fad
“I’m all for reducing social media and phone time, but I think that some people are taking it like, ‘Oh, I do this, and I’m going to feel instantly better,’ or, ‘In order to do this, I need to be completely off social media, or completely stop talking to people,’” Hemendinger said. “The way it’s being talked about on social media is not what I would support ” She also explains that the term “detox” is misleading seeking to eliminate dopamine from our brains wouldn’t be healthy even if it were possible Dopamine isn’t the enemy; screen addiction is
The “original” digital detox was popularized by psychologist Cameron Sepah, and isn’t meant to be a quick fix for dopamine burnout Instead, the approach is based in cognitive behavioral therapy and takes a slower, more intentional approach to detaching ourselves from the digital. It aims to take an unhealthy behavior like scrolling and replace it with a healthier one, such as meditation, reading, or socializing.
Phone addiction can’t be beaten in a week— much less in 24 hours, as some social media influencers have suggested.
So if one of your new year ’ s resolutions was to detach from social media and your phone in general, the way to make a lasting change isn’t to drastically shift the way you interact with screens. Instead, it’s best to take it one day at a time and make small changes over the course of weeks, not days
