welcome In 2014, Another Fine Fest crashed colourfully into the world with a seismic bang! The streets, windows, walls, venues, cobbles, ginnels and even lamp posts were awash with weird and wonderful activity - Ulverston was truly alive, living and breathing creativity in all of it’s forms. It was a beautiful experience and one which we are gagging to make happen again this summer. And so here we are, our second year and one which coincides with the 125th birthday of our man, Stan! It’s a big occasion so we are gonna throw a big ol’ party, a happening which celebrates all of the very many things that Ulverston has to offer, not just Stan Laurel. It’s about community, art, music, comedy, theatre, magic and so much more. It is shared experience where everyone is welcome and encouraged to get involved; it is a coming together, a celebration of the many talented and wonderful people in our town and beyond. With 11 stages/ official venues and wandering acts entertaining you throughout the town, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. A musical fest within a fest! With the help of our official venues, we’re bringing you lashings of Rock, Indie, Swing, Jazz, Blues, House, Techno, Break-beats, Hip Hop, Trip Hop, Dub, Disco, Reggae, Funk, Folk, Soul, World, Country, Psychedelic, Synth Pop, Beatbox... Is that OK for starters?! We intend to showcase the entire spectrum of live music at Another Fine Fest... Oh yes, I forgot. We also have Celtic Pipes! Al fresco gallery - a visual feast - once again we will be painting Ulverston several shades of every colour and it is going to look freakin’ marvellous! With the assistance of our street art specialists Primal Science, our secretive army of yarnbombers and our most excellent team of team

of window painters, our walls, lamposts, windows, cobbles and more will be brought to life in an explosion of vibrant creativity. Do you have an artistic bone or 3 in your body and want to be a part of the action? Great - we absolutely want you with us! At the time of going to press we still have some windows available, and our Yarnbombing General needs new operatives! Get in touch - we will provide the materials :) Another Fine Fest is a collaboration between myself Dave Crossley (Monster Monster/ Friday Night Live/Magic Orchard), Mark Greenhow (Laurel & Hardy Museum) and Jakki Moore (Beggar’s Theatre). We ran a crowdfunding campaign on the website Indiegogo in order to fund this festival, our target was £5000 which unfortunately we did not meet. In the 30 days of our campaign we managed to generate £3087 (after fees) via 130 contributors, which is still pretty darn impressive! Aside from this cash we are completely unfunded so once again we ask for your understanding. A slightly handmade feel is to be expected and it may be a little rough around the edges, but despite the imperfections it will still be beautiful in it’s own way! One of the main reasons that we were striving to achieve our target was so that we didn’t have to ask for any favours and so that we would be able to compensate all contributors, artists and acts adequately for their time and their talents. We really hope that we are still able to do this. If you received one of these programmes through your door - lucky you! If you end up coming to the festival and enjoying what you see, please consider chucking us a pound, it will really help us to make up the shortfall in funding.

Finally, a huge big massive thanks once again for all your support and to all that have contributed, it really means everything to us and is more than a little overwhelming. This really is the people’s festival as without you it could not happen. We love you all so much... Dave Crossley (Festival Director)

buskers - yarn -bombing - live window art - live graffiti

street art & busking throughout town

Ulverston will become awash with melodious creations and artistic sensations. Come one, come all, behold wild sights and attractions.

Buskers Alley

New Market Street will be dedicated to busking, a glorious activity which must be applauded and supported. We believe that performers of all disciplines should be made welcome to perform freely for the public upon our streets, so long as they respect their surroundings. These talented people bring life to our streets and joy to so many. For some, this is their sole source of income, so respect the talent, enjoy the art and give generously to those who give pleasure. This is a call to all who wish to ply their skills & delight the people, step forward & take your stage, for we are ready to be entertained..

Yarn-bombing

A crack squad of Ninja Knitters will get it on with the knit one, pearl one and create a little something special like this....

Live Window Art

Eyes are the window to the soul, and in Ulverston, windows are becoming soulful in their own right! We have gathered a team of lovely local arty folk who will paint original murals and spectacular scenes upon the glass of our pubs, shops and cafes throughout town.

Live Graffiti

Primal Science are a locally based aerosol art collective. It’s founding members grew up in the late 80’s when the Furness peninsula was a hotbed of British graffiti writing, believe it or not! 20 something years later and their passion for the art-form is still going strong. In recent years they have moved into more mural based projects in both public spaces and private commissions. Working hard to evolve both personally and artistically while retaining strong connections to the gritty origins of graffiti. Another Fine Fest brings a unique opportunity to create site specific works in Ulverston and to increase understanding of this much maligned art-form. Primal Science are available for all types of artistic commissions, from large scale murals and commercial works to a piece in a teenagers room. Please contact on primalscience01@gmail.com to discuss ideas.

Since 1984 we’ve been celebrating the fact that Stan Laurel was born in Ulverston, and it’s great that the rest of the town has joined us. Driver’s License Sketch This sketch was originally performed by Stan himself for a Red Cross benefit in 1939, it was further expanded for use during the 1947 tour of England music halls. Dan Laurel - “Stan was my childhood hero from being a young child. Much of my adult life has been spent as a lookalike, performing as Stan all over the country over the last 20 years. Previous clients include Sir Alan Sugar at Hackney Theatre, Ntl, Chrysler Cars, Stanley Casinos, Happa and many more. I then became involved with a member of Stan’s actual family, Mal Jefferson, both a music producer and producer for the BBC. Myself and Mal started work on some of Laurel & Hardy’s greatest sketches and re-recorded the Driver’s Licence Sketch in 2010. We are now ready to bring it to the stage and it’s a great honour for me to perform the sketch on a UK tour this year which begins in Lancashire on the 16th May 2015. It is a dream come true for me to perform the sketch at Another Fine Fest.”

HomeGrown DJs Aka Jamie Graham & Ian Chatfield have been running their successful club nights and throwing parties since 2005...Their style is a mashup of funk, soul, hip hop, reggae, breaks, d&b and anything else that gets the place rocking. The guys have warmed up for and played alongside DJ Yoda, Scratch Perverts, Freestylers, Craig Charles, Coldcut, DJ Food, Mooqee, Pimpsoul, Lo Fedelity Allstars, GLC, Aim & many more... HomeGrown have also made appearances at festivals across the northwest including Beatherder, Kendal Calling & Solfest!

Andy Turner (Aim)

During the late 80’s / early 90’s, Andy was drawn to underground clubs and warehouse raves and started out as a DJ, hosting basement parties in his home town Barrow. In 1990 he opened Speed Limit Records, his own vinyl only specialist record store. Fatefully, this was hip-hop’s ‘golden age’ and week after week he would be sent boxes full of life-changing hip-hop LP’s and 12”s by the likes of Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock, & Souls of Mischief. Inspired by these masterpieces, Andy bought a Commodore Amiga and started making beats. A demo found it’s way to Manchester’s Grand Central Records who signed him immediately. During his 8 years with the label he released the acclaimed albums ‘Cold Water Music’, ‘Hinterland’ and ‘Means of Production’. In 2004 Andy left Grand Central and, along with Niko and ex GC label manager Iain Cooke, set up ATIC Records. He released the fourth Aim album ‘Flight 602’ in 2006 and toured extensively with his live band, selling out Shepherd’s Bush Empire and smashing Glastonbury along the way. ‘Flight 602’ cemented Aim’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading underground artists, achieving a kind of cult following. This summer Aim will release his longawaited full length album collaboration with Long Island MC’s Q-Ball & Curt Cazal. Entitled ‘The Habit Of A Lifetime (And How To Kick It) aticrecords.com

Mikey D.O.N.

After being given his first record player in 1975, Mikey has always had a special desire for vinyl. In 1983, he, alongside his brother and a few friends, started their own reggae sound system called Two Tone Posse, mainly concentrating on Reggae & Soul music, but still having an outlook on other genres, especially Electro. Armed with boxes of killer tunes and dubplates, Mikey has now been dj-ing in the UK & abroad for the last TWENTY SEVEN years in reputable nights like Eat Your Greens (Liverpool), Scratch (Edinburgh & London), Custard Factory (Birmingham), Hit & Run, D*Percussion (Manchester), Club Bluu & Turkish Delight (Oslo, Norway) & Club Asylum (Jamaica) to name but a few, not to mention many festivals such as Big Chill,WickerMan, BoomTown, BeatHerder, Kendal Calling, etc – the list goes on and on. Mikey has earned the title of ‘The North West’s Number 1 Soundboy’, not only for his skills as a selector/operator in his sound system days, but also due to never being beaten in the numerous battles and ‘soundclashes’ he’s had over the years against people like Mr Scruff, Koma&Bonez & Dom (Blood&Fire). Whether rocking a club from behind the turntables, or holding a mic and delivering devastating lyrics, there’s no doubt Mikey D.O.N is THE force to be reckoned with! Soundcloud: MikeyDON1

2004 Niko released her debut album, the critically acclaimed ‘Life on Earth’, featuring her first work with producer Andy Turner, aka Aim. In 2005, Niko and Aim left the now defunct Grand Central to create their own imprint, ATIC Records, allowing them total artistic and creative freedom. They worked closely together, with Niko adding vocals to Aim’s ‘Flight 602’ LP and fronting his 10 piece live band on sold out tours across the UK, before getting started on her second album ‘Hate & Love’, which she’s written, produced and recorded with Aim at his Speed Limit Studios. Since moving to the UK, Niko has taken on a number of new musical influences including the harmonies of The Beach Boys, the electro-pop sensibilities of Stereolab and Gary Numan, and the string soaked splendour of Sigur Ros, all of which inform her new record to a certain extent. Niko is currently working on a new EP set to be released later in the year. aticrecords.com/artists/niko

By the age of 16 she was singing at major jazz festivals across America with her prize-winning High School Band. After winning a scholarship to attend New York’s prestigious New School and Thelonious Monk Institute Niko studied with jazz legends like Herbie Hancock and Reggie Workman during the day, whilst absorbing the sights and sounds of the city at night. She lent vocals to a number of deep house releases on Francois K’s Wave Records, and was soon writing and recording her own tracks which found their way to the UK where she was immediately signed by Manchester’s Grand Central Records.
