Our Curriculum Our teachers embrace technology and take a dynamic, innovative approach in integrating technology into instruction and classroom learning. All students have access to state-of-the-art technology on campus and from home. Notre Dame’s academic program is based on a traditional liberal arts curriculum. We believe that education should be more than the acquisition of facts—and that the primary focus should be on training the intellect as fully as possible. To that end, we adhere to rigorous and wellrounded academic requirements.
Our curriculum is designed to develop each student’s ability to write well, think logically and make informed decisions. THE NDHS CURRICULUM INCLUDES: — Four academic levels: High Honors, Honors, College Prep I and College Prep II. — 14 Advanced Placement courses. — College credits can be earned with the Sacred Heart University/ Notre Dame High School Partnership program. Students
taking six junior and senior AP courses can register at SHU and receive both Notre Dame and college credit for the course. — Notre Dame Fairfield is partnered with the University of Connecticut’s Early College Experience Program. Students
at Notre Dame Fairfield can take selected courses which have been approved by UConn professors, and earn credit from both Notre Dame Fairfield and UConn. — Notre Dame Fairfield students have access to the Ryan-Matura Library at Sacred Heart University.

How long have you taught at Notre Dame Fairfield and what courses do you teach? I have taught at Notre Dame for 12 years and currently teach Latin 1 and Advanced Placement Humanities and serve as the Director of the Distinguished Scholars Program.
What experiences do you bring to the classroom? Simply put, I bring a lifelong passion for language and students. The daily give-and-take in class—questioning, pondering, fathoming, plumbing depths and risking opinions—is truly a sacred routine, and one in which I have been immersed for more than three decades. I cherish the depth and diversity of a solid grounding in the humanities and a cross-cultural worldview. I hope to encourage students in their fluency and precision with words of the mind and words of the heart.
How would you describe your role as a member of the faculty? My colleagues bring expertise and enthusiasm to each day; they are wise in the ways of the world and warm in their personal approach to everyone—co-workers,
students, staff, fellow human beings both near and far. I am particularly struck by the faculty’s generosity of time and talent and the depth of their genuine love of their subjects and students.
What advice would you give to parents of prospective students at Notre Dame? Visit us and speak with administrators, faculty, students, alumni and current parents. Root with us at a weekend game and see the Lancers in action . . . talk with the students who volunteer in Appalachia and Nicaragua . . . eavesdrop on the Drama Club . . . walk through the halls and classrooms and savor the ND atmosphere.
Is there anything about the Notre Dame Fairfield community that you think parents should know? I would want everyone to know that Notre Dame is a vibrant learning community. Our 50-year plus tradition of excellence is a living, breathing heritage that points us to the future by engaging us fully in the present. Community Service TAKING PART IN OVER 50 SERVICE INITIATIVES, our students can be seen in soup kitchens, nursing homes, schools, parks, hospitals and churches statewide. Each year, members of the Notre Dame community participate in Service Day, cominh together to give their time and talents to serving others in the local community. Over 500 students, faculty, and parents volunteer their time serving 30+ non-profit organizations spanning three counties.
Each December 8, known as Our Lady Day, the ND community comes together to pay tribute to our patroness, the Virgin Mary. After a special morning Mass, the community gathers for an assembly, a special lunch and a school-wide service project which includes the packaging of meals which are shipping to Africa.

The Arts AT NOTRE DAME, WE SUPPORT THE ARTS! Students may elect to take Art, Band, Chorus, Music Appreciation, Music Theory, and Dance as part of their daily schedule. This adds a rich dimension to their education and is a wonderful creative outlet for all to enjoy. Each December, our annual
Art Show highlights the artistic accomplishments of students in a variety of areas: visual, musical and performing arts. Students may also participate in the annual spring musical, a popular tradition at Notre Dame Fairfield. Recent productions include Grease, Annie, The Wiz, Les Misérables and
Beauty and the Beast. Performances are staged at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts at Sacred Heart University, a 776-seat auditorium, home to Connecticut’s only year-round professional theatre company solely dedicated to families.

College Planning Nearly 100% of Notre Dame Fairfield graduates go on to college or university study. Last year, graduating seniors were offered nearly $17 million in scholarships, grants and financial aid from colleges and universities across the country. The Guidance Office works closely with each student to ensure each student experiences success at Notre Dame Fairfield. The planning process begins early— during sophomore year—when students begin career testing and exploration. Guidance counselors meet with students in small groups to identify personal skills, interests and abilities. Beginning junior year, parents and students are invited to private college planning sessions with counselors to map
out their individual college selection and application process. In addition, at special evening programs for parents, college representatives and Notre Dame Fairfield counselors discuss planning for and financing a college education. The Guidance Office hosts over 60 colleges and universities each fall to meet with students. It actively maintains an extensive college resource center with a library of college catalogs and also uses the nationally known Naviance program—a comprehensive web-based program that’s invaluable in helping students with the college admission process.

THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS OPEN HOUSE & TOURS Families are invited to attend an Open House or may contact the Admissions Office to schedule a private meeting and tour.
Notre Dame welcomes young men and women who we feel will succeed in our academic program. Guided by school records and testing, we look for students whose aptitude and demonstrated academic achievement give evidence of their ability to successfully complete the school’s curriculum.
APPLICATIONS, SCHOOL RECORDS AND EXAMS All prospective students are also invited to spend a day at Notre Dame though our shadow program, “Experience Notre Dame Fairfield.” Please contact the Admissions Office to schedule a visit.
To apply for admission, families must first complete an online application and submit a $50 application fee. Notre Dame Fairfield will request the appropriate records from the student’s current school. (Please be sure to sign the Academic Record Release on the application which grants your permission to your current school to send us the requested information.) Please note that eighth grade applicants are required to take an entrance exam. See our website for upcoming dates. Transfer students are admitted for enrollment in January and in September. Students are required to be interviewed and transcripts are reviewed. Three letters of recommendation are required

Tuition, Scholarships and Financial Assistance The education Notre Dame Fairfield provides is largely funded by tuition. While every effort is made to keep tuition costs within reason, we recognize that some families will require financial assistance. Families are encouraged to apply for financial assistance and should follow the guidelines to apply for admission and financial aid as early as possible in the process. TUITION Tuition for the 2019–2020 year is $15,360. Tuition is reduced for siblings enrolled simultaneously. Monthly installment payments are available.
SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Lancer Achievement Award, the Principal’s Award and the President’s Scholarship Award are given to students based upon academic achievement in grammar/middle school and upon the results of our entrance exam. These awards, which vary in amount from $1,500 to $10,000 per year, are announced
with admission letters sent December 15 each year.
