by annu1996
The domain of Ceramics and Glass design has been taught for around 56 years at NID now. It was introduced by Padmashri Dashrath Patel and the first professional assignment was to design crockery for the Indian Pavilion for the New York World Fair. The institute also collaborated with Parashuram potteries, for manufacturing tableware. By 1971 the institute used to batch produce products like tea and coffee sets, dinner plates, glasses and vases for Hotel Lake Palace, Udaipur and Contemporary Arts, Bombay.
The department inculcates students with qualities in the domain of art and creativity as well as functional possibilities in the realm of craft, architectural spaces, healthcare, hospitality industry, home décor, hi-tech products, and lifestyle product categories. Currently, the course is being offered at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Students who finished their engineering, fine arts undergraduate studies and also from the various background are a part of the department. An exposure to the craft sector, studio based practices and ceramic and glass industries widen the awareness towards production techniques and a variety of work environments and culture.
