A DEEP WOMAN IS INTIMATE AND SEXUAL A DEEP WOMAN IS INTENSE AND PASSIONATE A DEEP WOMAN CRAVES DEEP LOVE A DEEP WOMAN PURE AND AUTHENTIC A DEEP WOMAN IS STRONG A DEEP WOMAN SEES THROUGH PEOPLE

This project is built up as visual art portfolio developed as a fashion editorial for Vertigo 1958 by Alfred Hitchcock. Chosen theme is representing strong, vulnerable, deep, woman and real beauty. Overseeing beauty as concept of easy and positive emotions only. Being honest with emotions is attractive and beautiful. I decided to fly to Estonia for this photoshoot, to give it my authentic touch. I saw the shoot taken place in middle of Estonian bogs and gray frosty forests in this time of the year. Coldness, mystery. Seeing beauty in extraordinary and seemingly passionless. I found a model/actress who suited perfectly in role spotting similarities with Kim Novak and we drove other side of the country to direct the shoot. Incredibly heavy yet vivid experience.

BACKROUND AND CONCEPT

Vertigo 1858 by Alfred Hitchcock

VOGUE ITALIA

Hitchcock was obsessed with beautiful woman. In his movies, Hitchcock’s men will do anything to have mystical woman’s attention. But Hitchcock movies are also with dark, mysterious and full deadly scenes. Most of the time there was something to do with blonde woman with all those 3 mentioned themes. Alfred Hitchcock liked his women, blonde, erotic and cold. These are 3 personality traits this editorial will base on. Hitchcock fulfilled his desires from afar, just by looking. It is said that he wanted, needed and desired all his main leads of movies, all blondes - Kim Novak, Madeleine Carroll, Janet Leigh, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly and Tippi Hedren. Helpless and sexually attractive?

This photoshoot has been adapted for a chosen fashion publication witch is our very best in transmitting way more than straight fashion. This piece of art is known as being really imagery, actual and easy to identify.

Everything about Madeleine Elster from the movie feeds to the male gaze. She’s innocent and helpless, cold and she constantly needs a man to save her, contradictory to Midge, confident female character from Vertigo. Yet Scottie finds her sensual, attractive and is willing to make effort for her. Hitchcock has made a lot of scenes portraying Madeline as an art object. Her slow walks, her curves, her face close shots, strong contrasts and colors focusing on her. Hitchcock is strongly referring sensual blonde woman as a piece of art, in her helpless state. Depth, sadness, confusion about life and earthy emotions are beautiful. It is beautiful to see beauty in being yourself. Life can be hurtful, confusing, scary yet beautiful all at the same time. So yes, all emotions are admirable and all states still beautiful. That can be for men a bit intimidating, but attractive. Because deep woman feels and is a real woman.

This photoshoot has been set up by analysing the key factors of the magazine such as layouts, fonts and editorials, therefore applied strongly own view and own twist to the whole set. Inspiration has been gathered from Vogue Italia photographers like Peter Lindbergh, Ellen von Unwerth and Paolo Roversi. After deep investigation these three photographers, this photoshoot is shaped by mixing these talents work as part of the reference. Lindbergh manages garments as tools rather than the main element for the photos. Lindbergh’s notoriety was founded on this ‘imperfect’ work belief. He believes that truly beautiful can be only someone that has the courage to be totally themselves, not adjusting the shoot itself. Ellen von Unwerth has been inspiring character for the shoot for her specializing in erotic femininity. How she builds up empowering photos of woman yet keeping their innocence. Her pictures are depicting woman being seductive and self-confident. Our last, Paolo Roversi is bringing poetry in every photograph. “Every picture is for me a little story in itself,” he says. Paolo’s images just linger in time and magnetic softness.

STYLING PROCESS

Colors of the shoot were aimed to make a reader feel deeply

connected with the feelings expressed. Colors of the shoot were darker, gray, dark green, dark brown, black and white. Capturing the deep looks and almost feeling the emotions, the environment played a huge role of the sensation. There was a small referencing with darker tones with Vogue Italia well-known stylist Panos Yiapanis and his work. Clothes model wears are transmitting emotion mainly through color and texture. The red in couple of sets stands for passion, fur shows us the wild side, gothic black boots sadness or anger. Dress revealing the skin, emphasizes sensuality, female sexuality and playing with hair, grabbing it or closing it, could be seen confident sensual approach to be seductive. Details used in a shoot were yellow flowers, mirror and a ice. Yellow flowers transmitted fragility, tenderness and delicateness of a woman. Mirror symbolises awareness, wisdom, reflection of truth. Truth can be fatal, it can reflect beauty or ugliness. Bloc made of ice in the cold Estonian forest was meant to create illusion of fogginess. Which stands for confusion. Camera used variety of angles, bringing out the feeling rather than objects, capturing low angles, movements and through an ice object the model. Objective views, a lot of subjective views to feel more identified and personal experience adding eye level views. Photoshoot depicts a lot of close up’s emphasizing on facial impressions, some medium shots and few long shots, aiming to show the background and environment which played along telling the story.

The Beauty Of A Woman The beauty of a woman Is not in the clothes she wears, The figure that she carries, Or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, Because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, But true beauty in a woman Is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, The passion that she shows, And the beauty of a woman With passing years only grows. Audrey Hepburn

She Walks in Beauty She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that’s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o’er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express, How pure, how dear their dwelling-place. And on that cheek, and o’er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent! -Lord Byron
