Allegion’s Schlage® NDE wireless lock with ENGAGE™ technology simplifies the transition to electronic credentials with easy-to-use system

Allegion’s new revolutionary technology streamlines the transition from mechanical keys to electronic credentials. Easy-to-install and manage, ENGAGE makes it simpler and more affordable to use electronic locks and credentials in interior applications.

Using wireless technology, the ENGAGE platform allows users to gain access to interior offices, common areas and other sensitive places by using mobile credentials on compatible smart phones or by using their existing building ID cards. More importantly, ENGAGE cloud-based web and mobile apps make it simple to manage electronic credentials and locks in just a few easy steps.

Schlage® NDE wireless lock with ENGAGE™ technology provides tenants both freedom and flexibility. Office managers can easily add and delete employees in seconds. And locks can be updated from anywhere when securely connected to the IT network.

“Over the last few years, technology has changed nearly every aspect of our lives, and the security and access industry are no exception,” said Jane Kelly, director of marketing for Allegion Canada Inc. “ ENGAGE brings a new level of intuitiveness and flexibility with a scalable, affordable, easyto-install and manage system.”

For basic applications, ENGAGE apps provide the freedom to manage locks, add or delete credentials, and view lock history from anywhere. In addition, ENGAGE technology enables users who want more advanced capabilities to manage their site with software from one of Allegion’s access control alliance partners. This allows building managers and integrators to seamlessly incorporate ENGAGE technology into nearly any existing application.

Schlage NDE wireless locks with ENGAGE technol-

ogy are designed to fit into a standard cylindrical door prep, making it easy to upgrade without having to replace the door or modify the frame. The locks can be installed in minutes using just a Phillips screwdriver and don’t require any holes to be drilled or wires to run through the opening. ENGAGE offers the scalability to allow building owners and managers to customize the system according to the size of the facility, the tenants’ needs and the budget. Once it’s installed, the system can be adapted to meet changing needs as the facility grows, or as tenants move in, move out or reconfigure their spaces.

“Building owners, managers and tenants want to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs associated with managing keys and access,” said Kelly. “Transitioning to electronic credentials means fewer service calls and easier overall management.”

ENGAGE technology signals a new era in connectivity that combines the latest innovation in security with the value that every business needs. Convenient. Flexible. Scalable. Affordable. Never before has it been easier to install, use and manage electronic credentials.

Sustainable Access Control

Maximize energy efficiency with high performance door hardware

Whether building a new facility or renovating an existing one, the advantages of sustainable design and construction can be substantial. High performance doors and hardware from ASSA ABLOY Group brands can improve overall facility energy efficiency by reducing thermal and air leakage as well as reducing the impact of electronic access control (EAC) systems.

One of the greatest efficiencies can be found with the use of IP-based access control solutions, which reuse existing network infrastructure. This reduces or eliminates the need for security infrastructure, lessening power requirements, labor and materials used. Reduction in materials provides the added benefit of minimizing the impact of manufacturing, packaging, and shipping processes and materials.

Integrated PoE (Power over Ethernet) locks like the CORBIN RUSSWIN Access 700® PIP1 or the SARGENT Passport 1000 P1 combine all access control functionality into the lock and use existing network cabling for both power and data. ASSA ABLOY PoE locks offer significant energy efficiency with a peak power consumption of 7 watts per lock. This has been GreenCircle certified to reduce standby power consumption up to 73% compared to traditional access control installations using an access control panel, electrified lock, wall reader, and request-to-exit sensor. PoE locks also significantly reduce installation time and costs by consolidating several components into a single device.

ASSA ABLOY recently introduced another important breakthrough in energy efficiency - EcoFlex™ lock technology. Available from ASSA ABLOY Group brands CORBIN RUSSWIN and SARGENT, EcoFlex electrified mortise locks offer a remarkable 96 percent reduction in energy usage compared to standard electrified locks. Conventional solenoid electrified mortise locks consume about 6 watts of power, compared to about 0.18 watts for newer, more efficient options like EcoFlex. At 10 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), that saves more than 50 kWh and $5 per year per opening, which adds up: in a facility with 1,000 doors that’s

more than 5 megawatt-hours and $5,000 annual savings. For even greater savings, EcoFlex electrified mortise locks can be paired with EcoPower, a highly efficient power supply from ASSA ABLOY Group brand Securitron. Together, EcoFlex and EcoPower are GreenCircle certified to reduce total door power consumption up to 99%.

ASSA ABLOY is committed to providing products and services that are environmentally sound throughout the entire production process and product lifecycle.

Medeco’s New Protector™ II Padlock—44 Magnum Tough

Medeco® continues to expand its high security prod uct portfolio with the recent launch of the new Protector II Padlock. The Protector II Padlock is the essence of high security with its top-loading cylinder and cylinder protection plate to protect against drill ing, pulling and picking. The hardened boron alloy steel shackles also provide strong resistance to physical attacks such as cutting, sawing and prying. Coupled with the UL 437 listed Medeco M3 mechanical cylinder, the Protector II also resists picking, drill ing and other sophisticated forms of attack.

What sets this padlock apart from other padlocks is its unique toe and heel deadlocking action. This proprietary locking technique increases the strength, quality, and durability of the padlock; typical shackle-locking ball bearings can be highly corrosive in tough environments and can contribute to increased wear factors in high abuse applications, such as might be found on the back of trucks or other vehicles. The Protector II is also key retaining in the unlocked position for the highest level of security.

the key did not operate, the body remained intact and the shackle remained secure.

Medeco also subjected the Protector II Padlock to tensile, shock, plug pull, plug torque and shackle cutting torture tests at an independent testing laboratory. These tests were designed to exceed the forced entry required performance values for ASTM: F 883-09 certification. The Protector II tested at the highest padlock standards, F6.

The Protector II is available in Medeco Original, Medeco X4, and Medeco M3 – offering high security with the option of patented or restricted key control to protect against unauthorized duplication of keys.

Keyed alike, key different or master keyed, the Protector II Padlock offers a variety of options to fit any customers’ specific needs.

The Protector II Padlocks are ideal for buildings in harsh outdoor or corrosive environments, such as heavy-duty industrial sites, factories, marine equipment, sheds, perimeter gates and other utility applications. The body is constructed of durable, solid, industrial grade stainless steel providing durability in harsh weather and extreme conditions. Right and left side canals along the interior of the padlock channel moisture away from the interior of the body. Two drainage holes on the lower left and right sides of the body allows moisture to drain out of the body minimizing pooling, freezing, and corrosion or water damage to the cylinder.

Just how tough is the Protector II Padlock, one might ask? Tough enough for a .44 Magnum to barely leave a dent. Our test engineers fired Dirty Harry’s “world’s most powerful handgun” at the lock three times from seven feet away. The case remained intact, the shackle remained locked and the key still operated! The Protector also withstood multiple shots from a 30-06 rifle and an AR15 rifle; though in this case

The Protector II is also available with Medeco Intelligent Key Systems, either Medeco XT or Medeco CLIQ technology to provide electronic scheduling, auditing capabilities and disabling of lost keys in a padlock, providing users portable and remote loss and liability control. The padlock may be ordered less cylinder (for easy inventory), with a mechanical cylinder installed or with either eCylinder packed separately.

If you want to have a High Security padlock that stands up to the toughest attacks and environmental demands, try out the new Protector II padlock from Medeco.
