Detect Intruders Before They Get Inside

Perimeter

Most commercial outfits use some form of video surveillance and/ or access control to protect their sites. However, as criminals become more sophisticated in their crimes, the need for more comprehensive security solutions has become increasingly important.

Enhance Security with Detection at the Perimeter

An ideal way to add an extra layer of protection to an existing security system is with an intrusion detection sensor on a perimeter fence. Acting as a deterrent, providing early warning of an intrusion, and increasing the time to react to an intrusion, fence sensors help to minimize risks to property, assets, and staff/occupants.

There is a general perception that fence sensors are complicated, expensive and are only used for high value applications. While that may have been true in the past, technological advances have led to more simplified and affordable systems.

Ottawa-based Senstar Corporation, a world leader in perimeter intrusion detection solutions, has developed a fence sensor that is easy to install, is low maintenance, and is costeffective for sites of all sizes, including small sites such as warehousing and storage facilities, marinas and car dealerships.

FlexZone™ Ranging Fence-Mounted Intrusion Detection Sensor

FlexZone detects and locates attempts to cut, climb or otherwise break through a fence over a distance of 600 m per processor and with +/- 3 m accuracy. The co-axial cable-based system is adaptable to a wide variety of fence types and works reliably in the harshest Canadian weather. Using Environmentally Derived Adaptive Processing Technology (EDAPT), FlexZone differentiates between point disturbances caused by real intrusions and spatially distributed disturbances, such as wind and rain. FlexZone has proven itself against hurricane-force winds and rain, major snow storms and extreme heat, recording zero nuisance alarms during these intense weather events.

FlexZone can be configured in software to support up to 60 distinct, individually sized detection zones over 600 m, enabling a single cable to be used across areas with dif-

ferent operational requirements. Alarms can be reported locally at the processor or communicated to a central location over a network, interfacing with most alarm monitoring systems. FlexZone has low power consumption and with power and data running over the same cable, infrastructure costs are greatly reduced.

FlexZone Wireless Gate Sensor for Swinging and Sliding Gates

New to the FlexZone system is the Wireless Gate Sensor which addresses the long-standing challenge of installing and maintaining sensor cables on gates. The compact, all-weather sensor module is attached directly onto the gate fabric and transmits alarm data to a nearby FlexZone processor. An ultra-low-power device, the sensor module is powered from its built-in solar panel and/or internal battery, eliminating the need to route cables from the fence to the gate and simplifying maintenance.

M1controls offer the ideal combination of security and automation in one system. At its heart, M1 is a rock solid, robust security and life safety control. It provides comprehensive detection and reporting of intrusion, fire & CO, medical emergencies, water leaks, and hi/low temperatures, as well as access control capabilities . M1 helps installers break away from the “cookie cutter” approach to security, offering more customized solutions to consumers.

M1 is a very scalable and flexible platform, making it great for most any residential application, large or small. However, installers should not overlook the commercial opportunities for M1 in small to mid-sized businesses, as well as schools and municipal buildings. With M1, you have the ability to use the same control across a wide range of installations, while still fulfilling the needs of each customer.

M1’s flexibility extends to alarm reporting with support for IP, cellular , and land line communications. ELK’s new C1M1 Dual Path Alarm Communicator provides super fast full data reporting to the Central Monitoring Station over IP and cellular pathways. C1M1 also supports remote connectivity for arming and disarming, as well as remote programming without requiring port forwarding.

In keeping with ELK’s focus on security, wireless sensors were designed to be more secure and reliable. ELK achieved this with two-way wireless technology which is encrypted and defends against hacking. Utilizing true, twoway communication with the wireless sensors, ELK has incorporated innovative features to enhance security and life safety. The two-way wireless keyfobs have a system status inquiry button. This allows users to know if an alarm has occurred before approaching or entering the premise which could help prevent an encounter with an intruder. Two-way wireless smoke detectors have wirelessly interconnected sounder activation. In the event of a fire alarm, the sounders on all enrolled smoke detectors are activated. This is an installer favorite, as it allows them to meet new codes/standards without hardwiring.

M1 builds on this platform with automation capability to enhance safety and convenience. Arming status information and existing intrusion detection sensors can be used to provide

control based on occupancy. With support for a variety of sensors, M1 can also monitor other environmental conditions. Devices can be scheduled based on time/day and a built-in astronomical clock allows the system to know when sunrise and sunset occur. M1 brings together all of this information to provide intelligent automation of lights, thermostats, garage doors, gates, sprinklers, water valves and more.

M1 integrates with products from a variety of industry partner manufactures allowing control of most any electrical device. This empowers you with the ability to work with the products you prefer. Additionally, you can meet the needs of customers who are budget conscience and those who want high end options with all the bells and whistles. With remote access capabilities and simple, user-friendly interfaces, M1 keeps users informed and in control, anytime, anywhere! Remote control options are also flexible as there are solutions available with or without monthly fees. Customers can also receive event notifications by phone, email, or text message.

M1 provides all this functionality without overly complicated programming. The ElkRP2 programming software breaks down all these options into easy-to-understand drop downs, check boxes and text fields. Even the “WHENEVER/AND/ THEN” rules engine is easy to use. You simply make selections in drop downs and check boxes to build logic statements in plain English. This simple approach provides a platform for powerful and imaginative system configuration, allowing installers to answer, “Yes, we can do that!” to clients requests.
