investment in wide-format inkjet printing continues to be a primary focus of commercial printers across Canada. Several mid-size printers over the past year have purchased established wide-format operations to bring in specialized expertise and equipment, while others build Greenfield inkjet operations and leverage their existing client base.
In PrintAction’s April 2014 Iron Index issue, a survey of more than 200 web and sheetfed offset printing operations indicated that 24 percent of companies had added new or replacement inkjet systems in the past year, while another 14 percent indicated inkjet production accounted for at least 20 percent of their overall printing volume. Beyond the heavy coverage of this bustling sector in our monthly magazine, PrintAction’s inaugural Wide Format Resource Guide is designed to provide printing operations with an overview of the most prominent technol-

ogies and applications currently driving the market.
The guide is divided into three sections, beginning with 2013 North American market data from InfoTrends, based on more than 800 survey responses on purchasing trends for wide-format work. This is followed by PrintAction’s survey of wide-format technology suppliers who name their current key products by category and associated top three applications and technical considerations.
Finally, the Wide Format Resource Guide provides an extensive directory of Canadian companies involved in wide-format inkjet production, including those who provide printing services, exhibition displays and vehicle wraps, finishing services and, of course, inkjet devices, substrates and related supplies. For inquiries about this guide, please contact jrobinson@annexweb.com.
in 2013, Tim Greene, Director of InfoTrends’ Wide Format Printing Consulting Service, produced a report called Wide Format Printing: A Critical Element in the Communications Mix based on a survey to uncover who buys wide-format graphics, what they buy, and why. Now in its third iteration, the report garnered responses from more than 300 printing operations and 525 purchasers of wide-format work, and included some of the key findings presented here about the growing impact of wide-format printing. The full report can be purchased from InfoTrends.com.
