20th Annual HAC Convention & Trade Show
November 13-15, 2015 W Vancouver, BC

On behalf of your Board of Directors, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to HAC’s 20th Anniversary Convention and Trade Show. This Vancouver convention will mark 20 years of service by HAC to the Canadian helicopter Industry. From very modest beginnings in 1995, the HAC Convention has grown to be Canada’s largest aviation Convention and Trade Show.
We couldn’t have accomplished this achievement without the extraordinary support of Canadian operators and our valued Corporate Sponsors, Associates, Convention Sponsors and exhibitors. Through good times and bad, the support of the Canadian helicopter community for HAC has been unwavering. On behalf of your Board of Directors and myself, thank you for your support.
Our 20th year has been an outstanding one in many ways – two new HAC committees being formed; the release of our Economic Footprint for the Canadian Helicopter Industry report; a new twice-monthly Newsletter; our largest-ever Trade Show; our first-ever Static Display of aircraft; a move for HAC from leased facilities in Ottawa to a more permanent office-condo facility of our own; a largely successful advocacy campaign on Flight & Duty Times and Aerodrome Development issues – and last-but-certainly-not-least a successful season for many operators, even in the face of lower commodity prices.
I have no doubt that this will be a memorable convention for all of us – but while you are here reconnecting with your friends and business associates, let’s not forget to take some time to celebrate our storied past and the pioneers that had the foresight to build this association as we move forward with courage to start the next 20 years!
SYLVAIN SEGUIN
Vice-President & COO, Canadian Helicopters Ltd., an HNZ Company

Ladies and gentlemen, I wanted to add my “Welcome to HAC’s 20th,” to Sylvain’s. Truly, this association has come a long way. This promises to be HAC’s best – and largest Convention and Trade Show, ever. Don’t miss Steve Patterson, our Keynote Luncheon speaker – he is certain to be a crowd-pleaser. The Famous Players Band from our 2013 Convention is back at the Blackbird Public House & Oyster Bar with us again by popular demand. You will recall the party was out-of-control. Our Professional Development Program has grown again, and we are trying an assortment of new courses this year.
Take some time to chat with one of Transport Canada’s brand new Director-General, Denis Guindon in our traditional session with the DGCA. Take the opportunity to find out where the TSB is at on their Study of Air Taxi Accidents. Participate in our Friday Committee meetings – their work is the backbone of the association and their ideas are frequently the birthplace of new HAC programs and services.
Our SKIDZ Bar is back – but with a twist. This year the SKIDZ Bar will include a Casino event. Take some time to visit our Static Display of aircraft on the West Terrace, and spend some time on the trade show floor with our valued exhibitors.
This year we have incorporated a special “closed” session for operators and associates with myself. Twenty years is a milestone for HAC, and we would like to “receive rather than transmit.” On Sunday, we would like to know where YOU see your association 10 or 20 years from now? What are we doing wrong? What are we doing right? What new programs would you like to see us deliver in the years to come? Give some thought to where you think HAC should be in the next 10 years.
So rest up and take a power nap, because you’re gonna need it for this convention…
FRED JONES HAC President & CEO

Best known to more than 700,000 weekly listeners as Canada’s least moderate debate moderator on CBC’s hit show “The Debaters,” Steve Patterson is a veteran headline comic who has performed across Canada, North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia. His material is a combination of off-the-cuff and meticulously crafted, up-to-themoment social commentary. He’s also been known to break into song. His one-man show “This Is Not Debatable” toured theatres throughout Canada from 2012-2015 and earned him Canadian Comedy Award nominations for best one-person show and best comedy recording. He has also been named Canada’s Best Male Standup comedian at the Canadian Comedy Awards in 2011 and 2013 and can be seen hosting “Short Film Faceoff” on CBC television and “I Wrecked My House” on HGTV. But Patterson’s main goal now is making his baby girl Scarlett laugh. Which he usually does right before her bedtime. Which sometimes makes his wife angry.

Gary believes the best safety and quality practices are not “trade secrets.” Travelling the world in support of aviation SMS and quality programs he regularly observes that the link between business, safety and quality management success or failure is exclusively found within the culture and leadership of the company.
A former Martin Mars pilot, Gary is a post-secondary aviation educator and President of Abante Intelligent Solutions Inc. He is the founding Director of the Aviation Leadership Foundation, global SMS and quality consultant, and contributing member to the Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace as an SME for the National Occupational Standard for QA Manager and QA Auditor.
He is also one of two SME’s for the National Occupational Standard for Pilots in Canada and a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces. Gary enthusiastically enjoys sharing and engaging those who choose to make a difference in their industry as professionals while he and his team continue to learn, develop and deploy safety and quality managed solutions across the global aviation and airport environment.
