It’s 2022, a time to reflect on our gratitude for the past and rejoice over our hopes for the future. Most people will make resolutions, hoping to spark positive changes. Despite the best intentions, once the freshness of the year wears off, many people struggle to make good of their plan.

Hopefully the new year will bless you with good health, wealth and happiness. Our hope is that you make the most of your life in 2022; set a goal that will motivate and inspire you to live your best life. I am firmly convinced that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

One of my goals is to continue promoting and supporting women entrepreneurs. In this issue I am super excited to promote, support and feature Chef T, Tere Alston; the Executive Chef of "My Secret Recipe" on the cover of the January edition. Due to advances in technology and satellite internet, we can connect and network with people all over the globe.

A flawless makeup application is parallel to a great skin care routine.

Quick Tips Deep cleanse the skin with an oil-based cleanser removing all oils, dirt, makeup and free radicals from the skin.

Exfoliation is necessary to remove any white or black heads that may be clogging the pores. I recommend using a soft honey exfoliating scrub.

Steph Lynn’s Fitness Tips

After Bariatric surgery in 2016, I changed not only my eating habits but my attitude towards fitness. Transitioning from inactive to active has had its challenges. I was not sure where to start, what my body was capable of, and what type of fitness activity I was truly interested in. After a visit to the local YMCA, I was able to find activities that interested me, aligned with my fitness goals, and made movement FUN for me. I want to share some tips that will help develop an AMPLIFIED mindset about fitness as you start on your own personal journey.

Along with the exercise, eat food that will fuel the body and allow you to have the best workout ever.

Avoid food that makes you feel sluggish and heavy. Opt for lighter meals such as grilled protein, veggies, and fruit.

Make small changes over time

Add exercise to your daily routine in 10-minute increments. Then the next week move to 20 minutes. In the following weeks increase your time to at least 30 minutes per day. In time you will look up and an hour has passed, you are enjoying the workout, and feeling happy. You will look forward to carving this time out of your busy schedule for yourself. This commitment goes a long way towards helping you become disciplined with exercise.

Use social media to join fitness groups to help stay motivated, build friendships, and participate in group challenges with people that are on similar fitness journeys.

New Year, New Resolutions, Changes, Inflation

Here’s to a new year, resolutions, promises to ourselves that we’ll keep or not. Knowing what we must do, but allowing procrastination to take over. What will you do to make 2022 better for you?

I received a call from an 18-year-old saying his grandma told him to call to set up a savings plan. If he can get started, so can you!

Let’s talk about saving, not paying taxes & tax deductions Saving: Here’s the 2022 maximum contribution limits: Roth & Traditional IRAs: $6,000 ($7,000 age 50+) Qualified plans: $20,500 ($27,000 age 50+) Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) $61,000 or 25% of compensation Non-Qualified Plans: No limit Not paying taxes: Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD): Must be age 70 ½ with qualified funds. You pay no taxes if you have your IRA distribution sent directly to your church or charity. Counts towards your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) also. So, is it better to get a tax deduction or pay no taxes?

Tax Deductions: Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRT): If you own appreciated property but no longer want to manage it, transfer the asset into the trust. Get an immediate tax deduction, defer capital gains taxes & create an income stream for yourself. When you pass away, the remainder is donated to your charity. Now that’s the best of both worlds.

Inflation: Social Security went up 5.9%. Medicare Part B went up 14.4% and let’s not talk about gas. Plan for your future!

Linda Walker, CEO of Faithworks Empowerment added, "This event's aim is to encourage, engage, inspire and connect everyone together."

Celebrity and Entrepreneur guru Leggra Colon served as keynote speaker for the evening. Colon shared business and entrepreneurial "gold nuggets" that have helped her become successful in business and provide opportunities.

There were special appearances by: Kimberly Brown, (daughter of former Cleveland Browns great Jim Brown), Ray Leonard, Jr, (son of boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard) Lauren Dungey and celebrity PR maven Pamela J. Broussard.

This much-anticipated first event to reopen the Tampa community covered topics in: Education, Business opportunities, and the benefits of having a retirement plan. There was a special segment in the power of social media.

The Cover: Chef T, what Sparks your love for cooking?

Cooking is what I was born to do! I come from a family of excellent cooks. I have fond memories of stirring and tasting in my grandmother's kitchen, and the enthusiasm of watching and waiting for that amazing aroma to hit the table and then my belly, will live with me forever. While I have spent the majority of my life (over 20 years) in the medical field I have always enjoyed preparing delicious, healthy meals for my friends and family.

The Cover: Why was it important for you to change your career?

By encouraging my children to reach for their dream and do what they love, gave me the inspiration to no longer just settle for my “comfortable” job in the medical field, but pursue my passion. I attended the Culinary Business Academy obtaining my Personal Chef Certificate, and The Art Institute of Atlanta where I completed my culinary degree. While proficient in many techniques and cuisines, my goal ultimately is to provide tasty, comforting meals to my clients that convey the love and passion that I grew up around.

History Makers Cooper Honors The Tennessee Tribune and Rosetta Miller-Perry

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dec. 3, 2021, Rep. Jim Cooper (TN-05) submitted a statement into the Congressional Record honoring The Tennessee Tribune and its founder, publisher and CEO, Rosetta Miller-Perry. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of The Tennessee Tribune and Rosetta’s dedication to championing the cause of civil rights and leadership of African Americans.

M. Speaker, I rise today to honor The Tennessee Tribune, one of Tennessee’s most influential publications, and Rosetta Miller-Perry, who is the paper’s founder, publisher, and CEO. Thirty years ago, Rosetta took a business risk to launch The Tribune in order to raise awareness of, and address issues facing, Black families. The Tennessee Tribune has become the state’s largest minority weekly newspaper, fearlessly speaking truth to power and highlighting stories too often ignored by other publishers.

From joining the United States Navy to working alongside civil rights leaders including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Z. Alexander Looby, Rosetta has always been an advocate for good on the right side of history. Before founding The Tennessee Tribune, she worked at the United States Civil Rights Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. After arriving to Nashville, Rosetta founded the city’s Black Chamber of Commerce, which is still the preeminent resource for African American businesses in the area. It’s no surprise that Rosetta is known to many as the Queen of Jefferson Street, the historic center of Nashville’s African American community.

Rosetta’s lifetime of accomplishments is documented in History Makers, an oral history collection of prominent African Americans. In 2019, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Newspaper Publishers Association for her work with The Tribune.

The Tennessee Tribune’s work is multi-dimensional. It has two stores in the Nashville International Airport so that most visitors to our state will see the importance and power that diversity has made in shaping our growing region. This progress would not have been possible without Rosetta and The Tribune.

This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of The Tennessee Tribune and Rosetta’s dedication to championing the cause of civil rights and leadership of African Americans. Rosetta always makes our city, state, and country better, and I am honored to call her a friend. I look forward to The Tribune’s next thirty years and many more decades after that.

Berry was born in Columbus, OH, the son of Larry Berry and Cassandra Jones. Berry attended Whetstone High School and attended The University of Findlay. Berry received his bachelor's degree from The University of Findlay in human resources. Berry also was active in Track & Field during his time in college. After college Berry served eight years in the United States Army National Guard.

HENRI THE TRAVELING CAT Despite what people generally think about cats, they travel quite well, and does not seem to be upset by it. Henri seems to have my nature towards exploration - so as long as there are new things to sniff, he doesn't seem to mind.

Henri was born in Virginia, my hometown. He is 7 and a half years old. I have had him since he was 12 weeks old. We have lived all over the United States.

He travels with me to Colombia, and to my assignments on the west coast and other locations.

He is a very sweet, affectionate and tranquil cat. He does like to play "soccer" with a small ball and will sometimes retrieve it for me. He is a very good companion, which is especially important because I have a lifestyle that complicates many of my other relationships.

The benefits of having a service dog are to provide emotional, companionship and to assist the person with different tasks at home and etc. Service dogs are very important to many people with disabilities and the ones who are just lonely or just need companionship. A service dog must be well trained, so that he/she will be able to provide the individual who is in need. Some senior citizens may get a service dog to provide emotional support. A service dog allows the person to stay independent, lower stress, improve happiness, and is there for support.

A service dog is good for individuals who are dealing with different Disabilities.

The service dog can also assist the Individual to be able to go outside, shop or doctor visits.

A service dog must be alert; they can assist the person with getting their medications, shoes, picking up items and more. A service dog can provide incredible assistance with your everyday tasks, especially once you and your dog get to know each other and learn each other’s habits. If you love dogs and are able to care for your service dog, your dog’s most important role will be providing loyal, loving companionship.

Many places do accept service dogs. The best service dog to get for support are Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers and German Shepard’s.

The red-carpet affair annually honors the leaders, pioneers, trailblazers, heroes, sheros, inventors, government officials, businesses and organizations pro-actively paving the way throughout the community and building, stone by stone, a greater and stronger Mid-South and a stronger America.

Program performer Arthur Robinson linked the Memphis Massacre of 1866 to Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, with a reference to Memphians relocating in Tulsa after the Memphis tragedy and helping nurture Tulsa’s historic/iconic community.
