Growing up in Peru, Luanna Perez-Garreaud had little fashion inspiration around her as a youth. In an effort to find a way to live out her hobby, she started her blog Le-Happy.com in 2009 as a way to interact with people of common interests – documenting her own spins on pieces she found in thrift stores. Today, the online grunge fashion icon has transitioned from Peru to New York – where she has transformed her success to include her own online clothing store, a 2.2 million following on Instagram, and a goal to always be true to her own fashion and self. Praise. She’s had us stalking her Gram for hours at a time, longing for a chance to join the grunge community. While we don’t think we’ve quite got what it takes, we can applaud from afar – and instead pull together a list of the top 5 reasons why @luanna is our pick for this week’s Style Spotlight. Rock on.
1. Go bold or back to bed
From thick winged eyeliner to fiery red hair, Luanna’s not afraid of a few (or more) exaggerated features to complement her favourite pieces. And it goes far beyond beauty… with Luanna the queen of pushing the style boundaries – there’s no ignoring those high platform sneakers or graphic band tees when they walk down the street.
2. She’s a writer
This fashion favourite knows her stuff, and the proof’s in her contributions to Teen Vogue – where she puts to good use her learnings from her college days at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She even told Guestlist that her dream job would be to work in a fashion magazine. 3. Black is the new black
We couldn’t call her the Original Grunge Queen if she didn’t embrace black the way she does. She told Making it in Manhattan, “It’s always been easy for me to dress up in the city, with black dominating and paying a lot of attention to textures and quality.” But she knows how to play it with other colours to achieve a fierce and fiery look.
4. She’s set up her own line
In November 2016, Luanna expanded her fashion empire to include a line of clothing – launching her online store Shop LeHappy. With all the pieces being 100% Peruvian cotton, top combed and Pima, Shop LeHappy guarantees top quality pieces. After spending a month in her home town in Peru, Luanna managed to narrow down the best pieces for her collection with graphics of images from her travels. Each order even comes with a personalised card from Luanna herself. How sweet!
5. Her talents extend to vlogging
She’s had her own fashion and beauty YouTube channel for five years complete with 62 videos and 283K followers. From Summer Night Out beauty tips to Quick Morning Routines, her edits give us a little more insight into what makes Luanna, Luanna.
