Water is essential for all living beings, including humans. It plays a vital role in our daily lives and is necessary for various bodily functions. Here are some key points about the importance of water: - Hydration: Our bodies are made up of about 60% water.

Drinking enough water helps maintain body temperature, removes waste, and keeps joints lubricated.

- Daily Consumption: On average, a person uses about 80 to 100 gallons (approximately 300 to 380 liters) of water every day! This includes drinking, cooking, cleaning, and bathing. For example, taking a shower can use about 2.5 gallons (9.5 liters) of water per minute!

- Health: Proper hydration is crucial for overall health. It can improve concentration, mood, and physical performance.

Water pollution Unfortunately, water pollution is a big problem that affects the quality of our water sources. Here are some common pollutants that can harm our water: - Chemicals: Pesticides and fertilizers from farms can wash into rivers and lakes, contaminating the water. These chemicals can harm fish and other wildlife, as well as make the water unsafe for drinking.

- Plastic Waste: Plastic bottles and bags can end up in our waterways, harming fish and other aquatic life. Animals can mistake plastic for food, which can lead to serious health issues or even death.

- Industrial Waste: Factories may release harmful substances into rivers and lakes, making the water unsafe.

This can include heavy metals and toxic chemicals that can have long-lasting effects on the environment.

How we can protect water sources We all have a role to play in protecting our water. Here are some simple actions we can take: 1. Reduce plastic use: Use reusable bags and bottles to cut down on plastic waste. This helps keep our oceans and rivers clean.

2. Proper disposal: dispose of chemicals and medications safely, following local guidelines to avoid contaminating water sources. Many communities have special days for disposing of hazardous waste.

3. Conserve water: Fix leaks in your home and use watersaving appliances to reduce the amount of water you use.

Simple actions like turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can save gallons of water each day.

4. Educate others: Share what you learn about water conservation and pollution with friends and family. The more people know, the more we can work together to protect our water.

Fun Facts About Water - Did you know that water covers about 71% of the Earth's surface? Most of it is saltwater found in oceans.

- Only about 2.5% of the world's water is freshwater, and much of it is trapped in glaciers and ice caps. This means we need to be careful with the freshwater we have!

- A single leaky faucet can waste over 3,000 gallons of water a year! That's enough water to fill a swimming pool!

Water is essential for our health and well-being. By understanding its importance and taking steps to protect it, we can help ensure that everyone has access to clean water. Let's work together to keep our water sources safe and clean! Remember, every drop counts!

Activity proposal: Waterprint An important activity is raising awareness about the significance of water, reflecting on how much we use daily, and considering whether such usage is truly necessary.

Together with students, we can conduct a study of daily or weekly water consumption and use the results for further reflection. A water consumption journal, listing activities where water is used, can serve as a helpful tool for this task.

Results of the students' project work: Waterprint As part of the "Waterprint" project, students from Türkiye, Italy and Poland analyzed their daily water consumption, considering various aspects of daily life, such as drinking, cooking, cleaning, bathing, and other water-related activities. Below are the results of individual water consumption from students in these three countries, as well as the overall data.

Individual Water Consumption: Türkiye Average daily water consumption per person: 100 liters Main areas of consumption: Bathing: 30 liters (often baths instead of showers) Cooking: 15 liters Drinking: 2 liters Cleaning: 20 liters Other (e.g., laundry, watering plants): 33 liters Italy: Average daily water consumption per person: 120 liters Main areas of consumption: Bathing: 35 liters (mostly showers, but long ones) Cooking: 20 liters Drinking: 2 liters Cleaning: 15 liters Other (e.g., laundry, dishwashing): 48 liters

Poland:

Average daily water consumption per person: 110 liters Main areas of consumption: Bathing: 40 liters (mostly showers, but still sometimes long) Cooking: 15 liters Drinking: 2 liters Cleaning: 10 liters Other (e.g., laundry, dishwashing): 43 liters

Overall water consumption (Group average): Average daily water consumption per person (international group): 110 liters Areas Where Water Can Be Saved: Reducing shower time: Students noticed that one of the main causes of high water consumption is long showers. Reducing shower time to about 5 minutes can significantly reduce daily water usage.

Additionally, using modern shower heads with water flow restrictors can help conserve water.

Saving water during dishwashing: Students from Italy and Poland observed that some people wash dishes under running water, which leads to a lot of wasted water. The suggestion is to use a basin for dishwashing or use dishwashers in eco-mode.

Utilizing rainwater: Collecting and using rainwater for watering plants or cleaning floors is another way to save water. Students from Poland could install rainwater collection systems, which would help reduce the use of drinking water.

Repairing leaky faucets and pipes: Leaky faucets and broken pipes can lead to unnecessary water wastage. Students from various countries realized that fixing these issues can significantly decrease daily water consumption.

Optimizing water use in households: Students proposed using water-saving devices, such as economical flush systems for toilets, low-flow faucets, and water-efficient washing machines and dishwashers.

Education and changing habits: A key takeaway from the project was the need to educate others on the importance of water conservation. Joint actions, such as awareness campaigns or workshops, could help change daily habits and introduce more water-saving practices.

In the "Waterprint" project, we not only collected data about water consumption but also understood how our daily actions impact the environment. Through collaborative work, we realized how simple changes in our everyday lives can contribute to saving water and protecting water resources.

Activity proposal: "Clean Waters – Clean Future" This activity focuses on learning through experience and aims to raise students' awareness of the impact of water pollution, especially microplastics. For example, when factories release smoke into the air or when plastic waste ends up in rivers, it can harm wildlife and make people sick. Air pollution can cause problems like asthma and other health issues. Water pollution affects fish and plants, making it hard for them to survive. Protecting our earth means reducing pollution so that we can have clean air and water.

Climate change and its impact Climate change is another big issue that affects our planet. It is caused by human activities, like burning fossil fuels and cutting down forests. This leads to an increase in greenhouse gases, which trap heat in the atmosphere. As a result, we see changes in weather patterns, such as more extreme storms, droughts, and rising sea levels. These changes can hurt agriculture because farmers rely on stable weather to grow their crops. If the weather becomes unpredictable, it can lead to food shortages and higher prices.

Protecting agriculture Agriculture is important because it provides us with the food we eat. To protect farming, we need to use sustainable practices. This means growing food in ways that do not harm the environment. For example, farmers can use organic fertilizers instead of chemicals, which can pollute the soil and water. We can also support local farmers who practice sustainable agriculture by buying their products at farmers' markets. This helps reduce pollution from transporting food long distances.

Results of the students' research on the impact of climate change on agriculture in Poland, Turkey, and Italy As part of our research project, students from Poland, Turkey, and Italy investigated the effects of climate change on agriculture in their respective countries. The findings highlighted the following: Poland: Increased droughts are affecting crop yields, especially in the eastern regions. Farmers are struggling with water shortages, leading to reduced production of cereals and vegetables.

Longer growing seasons are allowing some crops to thrive, but unpredictable weather patterns cause challenges in planning.

Türkiye Rising temperatures are causing heat stress on crops like cotton and tobacco. Water scarcity, particularly in the southeast, is affecting irrigation systems and reducing crop quality.

Changing rainfall patterns result in unpredictable harvests, making it harder for farmers to adapt to new conditions.

Italy: Frequent extreme weather events such as floods and droughts are damaging vineyards, olive groves, and fruit orchards. Changes in the timing of seasons are disrupting traditional farming practices.

Higher temperatures are causing grapevines to ripen earlier, which may affect the quality of wine production.

Overall conclusion: The research demonstrated that climate change is significantly impacting agriculture in all three countries, causing both challenges and opportunities. Farmers need to adopt adaptive strategies, such as water management systems and climate-resistant crop varieties, to mitigate the negative effects of climate change.

What we can do Everyone can help protect our Earth! Here are some simple actions we can take: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: We can reduce waste by using reusable bags and bottles, and recycling paper, plastic, and glass.

Conserve water: We should fix leaks in our homes and use water-saving appliances to help reduce water waste.

Plant trees: Trees help clean the air and provide homes for wildlife. By planting more trees, we can improve our environment.

Educate others: Sharing what we learn about pollution and climate change with friends and family can help raise awareness. The more people know, the more we can work together to make a difference.

The role of trees in supporting biodiversity Trees play a vital role in maintaining biodiversity.

Habitat for organisms – Trees provide shelter for birds, insects, mammals, fungi, and plants. Their canopies, trunks, and roots create diverse living environments.

Source of food – Fruits, seeds, leaves, and nectar from trees serve as food for animals and insects.

Soil and Water Protection – Tree roots stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and retain water, supporting aquatic ecosystems.

Oxygen production and carbon absorption – Trees purify the air, balancing ecosystems by producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide.

Ecological corridors – Trees form natural migration pathways for animals, allowing them to move safely between habitats.

Skills Developed: Fine motor skills, patience, artistic techniques, and creativity.

Tree made from recycled materials Environmental education often lacks engaging, hands-on activities that teach students about sustainability, recycling, and biodiversity. Traditional teaching methods may fail to inspire eco-friendly behaviors.

The activity will start with a short presentation about the importance of trees for the planet, their role in combating climate change, purifying the air, and creating spaces conducive to biodiversity. Afterward, students will participate in the practical part of the activity: planting trees in a designated area, such as the school grounds, a park, or another local space. During the planting, students will follow guidelines for proper planting, such as digging the right depth, spacing between plants, and watering.

Benefits for students: This activity allows students to understand the importance of caring for the planet's natural resources, develops their sense of responsibility, and gives them hands-on experience in environmental protection. Additionally, students will learn teamwork, and their efforts will contribute to tangible changes in their surroundings.

Activity: Soil- Vegetation and Us - project Instructions for the students: We will work on a project in groups of six. Each group's task is to create an infographic - a poster on the topic of research related to 'Soil, Vegetation, and Us.' Each group will receive research questions. Here are the steps you need to follow: Choose one group leader who will be responsible for organizing the work and coordinating the activities.

Divide responsibilities within your group. You can assign different aspects of the infographic to various group members, such as research, graphics, text, or presentation.

Conduct research on your chosen topic. Utilize available sources of information.

Prepare the content for your infographic. Include key information, illustrations, charts, and data that present the results of your research.

Ensure that the infographic is clear, visually appealing, and conveys important information.

Collaborate as a team to achieve the best outcome.

In the end, each group will present the results of their work to fellow students and the teacher.

Without clean air, all living things would struggle to survive.

Air pollution Unfortunately, air pollution is a big problem that affects the quality of the air we breathe. Some common sources of air pollution include car emissions, factory smoke, and burning trash. These pollutants can make the air dirty and harmful. For example, when cars release exhaust fumes, they add harmful chemicals into the air, which can lead to serious health problems.

Effects on Humans Air pollution can have many negative effects on our health.

Breathing polluted air can cause problems like asthma, allergies, and even lung cancer. It can also make it harder for people to exercise and enjoy outdoor activities. Children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to the effects of dirty air, so it is important to take action to protect everyone’s health.

They created artwork using natural materials such as sticks, stones, leaves, and pine cones, ensuring that they did not pick plants or harm the ecosystem. While gathering materials, they studied plants, observed nature, and analyzed its changes.

The project highlighted the connection between humans and ecology, promoting ecological responsibility and respect for nature. After creating the artwork, the students filmed a stopmotion animation, developing their digital skills. This project integrated art, science, and technology, fostering creativity, collaboration, and ecological awareness among the participants.

Human rights are basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world, no matter who they are or where they come from. These rights are essential for everyone to live with dignity, freedom, and equality. They include rights like the right to life, freedom of speech, and the right to education.

Why are human rights important?

Human rights are important because they help protect individuals from unfair treatment and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live a fulfilling life. They promote respect for all people and help create a fair and just society.

Three key facts about human rights 1. Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR): In 1948, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This document outlines the fundamental rights that all people should have, including the right to education, the right to work, and the right to participate in government.

2. Right to education: One of the most important human rights is the right to education. This means that every child should have access to quality education, which helps them grow and succeed in life. Education empowers individuals and promotes equality in society.

3. Protection against discrimination: Human rights protect individuals from discrimination based on characteristics such as race, gender, or religion. This means that everyone should be treated equally and fairly, regardless of their background.

Activity: Paws and beaks: A project for animals and the environment Sstudents actively engaged in helping animals by creating bird feeders and dog houses. The aim was not only to provide practical assistance but also to raise awareness about the responsibility for animals and environmental protection. The students used recycled materials, promoting the idea of sustainable development and waste reduction. Each stage of the project, from planning and construction to placing the feeders and dog houses, involved the youth in concrete actions for animal welfare, allowing them to feel responsible for the well-being of other creatures. Through this initiative, students not only helped animals but also learned the value of international cooperation, empathy, and active involvement in pro-environmental and charitable actions.

Activity: Paper reborn: crafting sustainability from old tests As part of the project, students from Poland, Turkey, and Italy engaged in creating handmade paper using old tests and exam papers. The goal was not only to recycle and repurpose waste paper but also to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and resource conservation. Students followed the process of pulping, pressing, and drying paper, transforming old materials into new, usable items. This project involved creativity, manual skills, and teamwork, as students worked together to reduce waste and learn about eco-friendly practices. Through this initiative, students not only gave new life to discarded paper but also developed a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility and the value of reusing materials.

Together for a Sustainable Future!

As part of the project, students from Poland, Turkey, and Italy organized a poster exhibition to summarize their work and encourage reflection on individual ecological actions. Each poster highlighted the importance of sustainable development, resource conservation, and the impact of individual actions on the environment. Students invited visitors to reflect on their own ecological footprint and how small, conscious actions can contribute to a more sustainable future. The goal of the exhibition was to inspire everyone to consider their role in sustainable development and take responsibility for their environmental choices, promoting a collective effort for a greener planet.
